A tourist in my own country.

Today I have decided to become a tourist.

After the realization that I do not know my home country as well as I should, I have decided to get to know it better.  Becoming a tourist in my own country.

No this does not mean I am going to invest in a fanny back and Polaroid camera. It just means I am going to do those things that I have previously taken for granted, exploring the attractions that Britain takes pride in.

After being a British Citizen for 16 years I have extensive knowledge about my country.  I know the real Britain both the positives and negatives: how the public transport is appalling, the shopping is fabulous and the people are extremely interesting. Yet I haven’t done those things that deem irrelevant to us but take priority in a tourists visit.

It is true, I do not know the country from an outsider’s perspective. I need to be educated on venues such as: Madame Tussauds, the London Dungeons, The London eye.  Taking extensive trips to great locations.

Yes I have been to west end shows, yes I have been on a double Decker bus and yes I have see Big Ben. These are activities that are not acknowledged as important to us residents. They are the norm.

It’s those unique hubby holes designed specifically for tourists that I’ve missed and I’ve decided it’s about time I take a visit.
