Thanksgiving Break

It is the last day before Thanksgiving break starts, and I have been looking forward to it more than anything. The weather has finally turned cold, and it has been raining all week. This really makes it feel like fall, which makes me very happy. My sister will come home from college, and I can’t wait to see her. Being apart from my sister, who is only two years older than I, is very upsetting. She is like my best friend, and so I really enjoy it when she comes home. It’s weird going from seeing each other every day to only seeing each other on breaks. I got my first college acceptance letter, and I feel a tiny bit of weight lifted off my shoulders knowing that I can at least go to college. This year has been the quickest year of my life, and I feel like I’m not soaking it in enough. Senior year is supposed to be this crazy, exciting year, but it has felt like it’s gone by in literally a day.

My classes

My classes have been intensely harder this year than years in past. My schedule is set up so on my day ones I have every single hard class. I have Government, Business Math, AP environmental science and Journalism. On my day twos I have an easy day, english, art and two free periods. This schedule feels like a blessing and a curse. Every other day all I do is relax and occasionally don’t even have to arrive at school until 11. But on my day ones I struggle. Every class is rough and I have too many tests. I dont understand enviromental science, it is the most confusing class ever, the way things are worded makes it harder to understand. The tests are even worse. They are online which for some reason makes it much harder. Government is also extremely confusing. I dont understand the class at all and I get yelled at for where I sit. I am so exhausted from this. My grades are not even that bad, but it feels like im actually hanging on by such a thin thread. But it’s okay I just need to get through the next few months and things will get easier because I will get college letters back and know what im doing with my future.

The future

In the past few weeks, I’ve had an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia. I haven’t fully come to terms with the fact that I will be going to college and changing my entire life in less than a year. Everything I’ve grown up with and experienced my entire life is about to be turned around. I feel nostalgic towards the past three years here. All of my funny memories with my best friends. Having sleepovers every night, laughing until we cry. While I feel so sad about having to leave all that, there is nothing I’m more excited about than moving on with my life. I feel like I’ve gotten to a point where I am ready to figure out my future career and a new life. I can’t wait to move away and get away from stupid, immature, petty high school drama. There is nothing more draining than dealing with some stupid drama every few weeks. I hope that in college, that stops happening because it’s actually so unbearable. I am excited for the future, but I will miss everything I will leave behind.

Things that make me happy

Recently, I have been so unmotivated. Senioritis has hit me a little too hard. I spent weeks slaving away on my college applications, and it drained the life out of me. School has sucked everything out of me. Homework, capstones, work, social life, and everything else are actually exhausting. But I have still found a motivation to stay happy, so here’s a list of things that do make me happy.

  1. Making my bed in the morning makes my life feel more put together and clean.
  2. Sleeping in after a long week of school.
  3. Hot pilates, so relaxing and calms me down
  4. My cat because she’s so cute.
  5. Going out to eat, nothing beats getting good food from a nice restaurant with my friends.
  6. Watching a good show after a long day at school.
  7. Burning hot showers.
  8. My water bottle keeps me hydrated
  9. shopping
  10. Music on the way to school.
  11. Driving to school in the morning

These are things that keep me grounded and happy during such an overwhelming time.

My Week

I have already been overwhelmed. The amount of college supplementals and essays on top of my capstone, on top of all my difficult classes, and my busy week at work. I have been overwhelmed, but that’s just what comes with being a senior. Yet every time things start to look up, I’m pushed back down. Last week, my car started flashing lights at me. I called my dad, and after a long inspection, he told me he had to fix a belt on it (I don’t know what that means at all), so I would be unable to drive it. I was annoyed, but it was fine; I could borrow my mom’s car for a day or two. The next day, my dad had still not started on my car. He told me it would take less than an hour to fix, yet he hadn’t started. I was frustrated but moved on. As I pulled into my driveway in my mom’s van, I saw a 3-foot hole dug into my driveway. I was confused, but I walked inside. I was then told that a pipe burst connecting to my pool, so we had to turn the water off. I was again frustrated; I wouldn’t be able to shower, wash my face, or brush my teeth. I went to my friend’s house to do those things, and when I got back, I smelled a putrid smell coming from my dog. I ran inside and was told he had been sprayed by a skunk. The smell was too terrible, so I had to go back to my friend’s house. Since the water was off, my dog was unable to get a bath. This all went on, and I tried to stay positive throughout the week. Eventually, my car, the pipe, and the dog were all fixed. I don’t get why senior year has to be so hard.

Work

I have a love-hate relationship with my work. I love making money. But I absolutely hate dealing with customers. For example it was a busy Friday afternoon, I was doing my regular work routine. All of a sudden a old customer calls me over. Mid bite of her arugula salad she starts explaining how terrible the chicken is. She starts telling me its disgusting and dry. I apologize but she continues complaining. I Leave to get her a new side of chicken. I bring the new chicken to her and she makes me wait so that she can try it to see if it’s up to her standard. She tells me it’s terrible dry and not edible. I apologize again and explain we roast our chicken early in the morning and warm it up to be served so it must be a dry chicken or something. All of a sudden she screams at me and explains how terrible of a waitress I am and instead of explaining why its dry I should go give the kitchen the feedback. I assure her that I will and we will fix the problems. Apparently that’s not good enough so she continues to tell me how her family used to be in the restaurant buisness and so she knows everything. She tells me she’s never coming back. When I walked away me and my favorite coworker talked about how we would rather have customers never come back or just dont come in the first place rather than yell at us. My paycheck doesn’t get affected if we have one less customer comes it doesnt even change if 10 customers dont come back. I am sick of working.

My Week

I had an extremely boring week. I did absolutely nothing exciting or interesting. One of the things I dont hate about school is that it gives me a better routine to follow but I also hate that it gives me no time to do things I actually enjoy.

Monday: I got to wake up late because I had two free periods first so that was nice. I still woke up too late and had to rush to get ready for school. It was a very normal day at school I got through my classes and then went to work. It was a bad day at work, it wasnt busy enough to stay interested so it felt like 10 hours. I went home did homework and went to bed.

Tuesday: I woke up late yet again, I got ready for school and left just in time. School was hard because it was my busy schedule, I went to all my classes, fell asleep during lunch finished the rest of the day and went home. I washed my sheets and cleaned my room and did my homework. I tried to fall asleep early but couldnt.

Wednesday: I woke up late, what a surprise. I hurried to school, went through my day as usual, and went home. I tried to go home early because my classes ended before lunch, but I didn’t. I went home and went to my workout class. I then went home and made dinner.

It is now thursday I expect today and tomorrow to be the exact same as this whole week. I hope that this rut is over soon and I can get back to doing things I actually enjoy.

Routines

I am obsessed with routine. I love having a set schedule and planning everything out. Over the course of my life I have become more and more obsessed with the little details about my life. The way my bed is made, the placement of shoes on the floor and the feeling of my sheets. I am highly compulsive when it comes to my room, cleaning and taking care of myself. Therefore my routine is highly important to me. I get home from work or school and immediately shower and change into a clean comfortable outfit. I go along with the rest of my night doing homework or hanging out with friends and then I prepare myself for bed. I wash my face, brush my teeth and put on my skincare. I then make myself tea or get myself water and gently pull my blankets back so that I dont mess up how it looks. I turn on my show for the night and lay down. After about 30 minutes of that I turn on a podcast or music and fall asleep. I have realized that if I dont follow my own routine perfectly I am unable to go to sleep. I love my routines.

Weather

The weather often has a profound impact on one’s mood. Sunny days feel uplifting, while a cold and gloomy mood feels lazy and exhausting. Temperature shifts change the feeling of a day. The feeling of driving to school on a crisp, cloudy day feels nostalgic and calm. But driving to school in blistering heat feels draining. I haven’t decided my favorite season because I feel like they all have different memories and feelings attached to them. Summer is sweet and warm. Anytime I hear waves crashing against the beach or fireworks, I’m brought back to summers in the past. Fall feels like a fresh start, the school year is still new, and the weather starts to change. The taste of pumpkin and a feeling of nostalgia from summer in the air. Christmas is the best of all. The feeling that comes with Christmas time is unexplainable. Being a child and opening gifts on Christmas morning in pajamas. I would do anything to feel Christmas again as a child.

College

Everyone has always told me that senior year will be the most exciting time in a high school career. Now that I’m finally here, settling into my classes and routines, I keep waiting for that excitement to hit, but all I can think about is how close I am to being done. With the pressure of school, sports, capstone, and college applications, I feel like this is the most stressed I have been so far. I can’t wait to experience graduating and moving on with my life. I can’t wait until the day the pressure eases and senioritis gets to me. Everyone has told me to soak it in, but why is that so hard? It’s bittersweet knowing that this time next year, I will hopefully live in a new city and experience things I have never experienced. Knowing that this is the last year I will be able to laugh and run around in the halls with my best friend. So I am trying my best to absorb it all and remember every moment.
