Junior-itis

Sadly, junior year is the most important time of my high school career and the time when I need to get my best grades and have my best academic performance; however, that is extremely difficult.

I’m definitely done with school and everything that comes with it. It is kinda expected that during your hardest time, you get your best grades, but honesty, that has just not happened even with me putting more effort into school than in previous years. I have not been able to get straight As any time in my life, and now that I have the most things going on in my life, I’m expected to get them. Like, come on, that’s not gonna happen.

On top of school, I still have things outside my current life that have a higher priority. However, when I prioritize those other things, my grades start to slip. So I’m not too sure what to do.

I can put my school life ahead of my other life, but that will hinder my mental health. Plus, school just isn’t as important to me as other things, but it’s important for my future (maybe?).

But anyway, back to the topic of the post, I definitely have the junior form of senior-itis, which is slightly different from senior-itis but I just know that my college is riding on this year, so I’m still putting in some work but trying my hardest to put in the least amount of effort and get maximum outcome.

Another way it’s similar to senior itis is that I am very ready to leave OVS. No offense to the school; I just believe I have served my time here and am ready for a little change of pace.

And watching the seniors all get ready to leave to go to college or wherever they plan on going makes it way worse. I feel like I’m picking up their readiness to leave when, in fact, I’m not close to leaving yet.

Although it is all about perspective, because it is unbelievable that I’m already nearing the end of my junior year when I was a freshman not too long ago, so maybe looking at it from another way will help out.

This isn’t something new that people haven’t heard im pretty sure everyone is feeling this. I just needed to write this down somewhere.

Instagrams reels

The place where people go when they finally delete TikTok to try to make an effort to bring their screen time down. However, in semi-recent times, Instagram reels have become a place of true terror and horror. Now, I personally believe that TikTok is much more addicting than Instagram reels because their algorithm is better; however, I am not too sure if Instagram is better, honestly. While TikTok might make you spend 5 hours looking at stuff that you won’t remember or care about the moment you turn it off, Instagram reels will show you things that you will remember, but you don’t wish you did. Instagram has a pretty horrible filter that stops people from seeing horrible things on there. On Instagram reels, there is an absurd amount of people dying or getting attacked, mainly shown in car crash videos along with other videos that should not be shown, such as racist ideas/jokes. The reason why these videos don’t get taken down is that you are only seeing the car get crushed or the person fly out the window but not the person actually dying, and the racist jokes don’t get taken down because the algorithm can’t really tell what is racist and what isn’t so it relies on the judgment of the people watching the reels to report the things they see. However, because these videos have become so commonplace they often time they never get reported, but they get likes and shares because people have come to find these videos normal and funny. The main issue with all this is that these ideas and videos are becoming commonplace which reflects on the people. Even if they are jokes, they instill these views into people, which is obviously a horrible thing. Now, I’m not free of these videos, but it’s because I’ve seen so many that I know how big of an issue it is. If you go onto Instagram and read the comments of videos you will find some pretty horrible things.

Working at Bliss

Working at the best ice cream shop in town is a pretty good thing most of the time. It’s all pretty easy work but there are also some stressful times while working there. but I think the pros outweigh the cons by quite a lot.

Pros: 1) Free ice cream once a day and while I’m working there I can kinda just eat as much as I want since we have tasters that are free for other people to have so it’s also free for me since I work there. 2) I’m getting probably (on a bad day) an OVS teacher’s salary in tips alone since they aren’t taxed and it’s in Ojai so people can afford to tip most of the time. Also, the normal wage that I get but the tips are more fun. 3) is that I get to meet more people and have a lot of interactions with people whom I have never met which has helped me with talking and meeting new people and I have learned to have better social interactions because of it. 4) it’s a pretty chill job I don’t have to work that hard (well some moments are rough) 5) I get to listen to music while working

Cons: 1) as I said some moments can be stressful like when a bunch of people comes in at once and something in the back breaks or a topping runs out or an old man/child drops his ice cream and stuff like that. 2) the freaking machines are the most annoying part of the job like in some ways it is easier but if it breaks then everything goes sooo wrong and it’s just very stressful. 3) when someone asks for an ice cream cone instead of just being able to scoop it like a normal place I have to make a tower that if I do it wrong it falls over and 90% of it’s at an angle that is on the verge of falling over 4) closing is pretty rough as well it takes a while to do and is hard on my back.

It’s a fun job though and I need money

van life or bus life

So we all know what van life is and I’m pretty sure you can guess what bus life is. I’ve wanted to live in a van for a long time and wanted to convert one with my own hands and make it exactly how I want it, but recently I’ve been having doubts about whether I should live in a van because vans don’t have a lot of space so I couldn’t put a lot in there. However, a bus has quite a lot of space to put all the things I want there which is a lot. For example, there is almost no way I’m going to be able to fit a moped in a van like it’s not gonna happen. Also, I need a lot of power for everything and the best way I can get that is through solar and I could fit a lot more solar panels on a bus than a van. The bus is not perfect though it takes a lot of gas and I can’t get into certain places as easy compared to the van which is a big issue since I want to go to a lot of places that would need go like if I ever wanted to park in a normal parking lot i would need to take up about 5 spaces but in a van i could just do one. I might try and meet in the middle and do a box truck because that can get to most places but still has a good amount of space. I guess I don’t have to think about this to much right now but there’s a lot to think of so maybe I should start planning now.

might get a flip phone idk

Honestly been considering getting a flip phone after a lot of thinking. The only things I really need from a phone is text call and music however the flip phone doesn’t have music, so I’m not really sure if I should get one or not. I think it would be sick to have a flip phone after being convinced of the benefits by someone with the name of Ben, but I would need some sort of other device for music. I had something for that a while ago, aka an Apple watch but I lost that when I was surfing and I left it on the back of Soren’s car, and then we drove away so it fell off. I would buy a new one and that would fix all my problems but they cost a lot of money but not to much so im defenitly considering it. Back to the flip phone I feel like it would just be a cool things ot have but ben brought up a good point aswell that it would kinda filter out the people i meet. for example if I wip out the flip phone and the person I meet is like ” thats sick as hell” that would tell me that their more my type of person but if they were like “wow you have a flip phone *in a very undermining tone*” it would tell me that their not my type of person.

would you rather ?

over the years i have come up with quite a few would you rather this is my favorite

Would you rather have control over all birds in the world or all insects?

some rules of this question

  1. you can control them from anywhere anytime and as many as you want at a time
  2. you can make them do whatever you want either by general commands like “attack them” or “Go get me a bag of chips from the nearest gas station”
  3. you could also control them like they were a drone or some sort of remote control thing like your guiding them with your mind
  4. all birds are included not just the flying ones example: ostrich and penguin
  5. for bugs, you get the Insecta class which includes things like bees, mosquitos, all flys, fleas, and many more
  6. A common misconception when asking this question is that things like spiders are included in the insects the answer is no.
    • Now the original question was to control all birds or all bugs however I changed it to insects because if we said all bugs then that might be considered part of the Arthropod which includes things like spiders which is close however it also has things like crabs and crawfish so i felt it was best to just use insects.

Some interesting facts for both sides

  1. the biomass(the total quantity or weight of organisms in a given area or volume) of birds is about .008 of all animals while insects is about 1/3 of all animals
  2. there are about 80 billion birds and roughly 10 quintillion insects
  3. the fastest insect is the dragonfly clocking in at ~33 mph the fastest bird is the
The peregrine falcon at ~186 mph
  4. the biggest insect is the giant weta(I wouldn’t recommend googling) at about 3.9 inches while the biggest bird is the Common Ostrich at about 9 feet tall

For my decisions I choose to control the birds

please let me know what would you choose and why!

yes officer i got my licenses 4 days ago

This story talks about how I managed to get pulled over after having my license for four days.

On a tranquil night, I departed from my house at about 11 p.m. on the 15th of September. It was another typical night, and I was going to the gym because one of my friends pressured me even though I was already sleepy and wanted to sleep so I decided to go. Now it was normal at the gym that night, some goofing around since we had the whole place to ourselves. Once we were done my friend who had biked to the gym was about to bike back but I decided to offer him a ride back since it was dark and at 2 a.m. So we decided that it would be a good idea if I drove him back. so we put his bike into the back of my Prius, which was harder than expected. Eventually, we departed into the night expecting this ride to be uneventful and quick, god had other plans. As we took a right onto the main road we drove for about 30 seconds where we passed a cop. we passed him with no issues, and I was so confident to even say, “Nothing suspicious to see the officer ” while driving by the cop. Well, Apparently, he must have heard me say that because about three seconds later while looking in my rearview mirror to make sure he doesn’t follow us he whips THE FASTEST U-Turn I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. He pulls up right behind me getting very close to my car, and just tailgates me and my friend for what feels like 10 minutes but in reality was 1-minute max, regardless that was still a while and I don’t know if he was trying to scare me into doing something illegal but I eventually take a turn towards my friend’s house and the cop follows, it’s at this point I knew I was getting pulled over. Right on cue, he turns on those lights, and I pull over. Eventually, after waiting for about a minute the cop walked up to my window (which was already down since I didn’t want to anger him by asking to roll it down). He leaned in and said, “Hey just wanted to let you know that your headlight was out nothing else was wrong but you should know and get that fixed” This was definitely one of the better things you can get pulled over for and was quite the refile knowing that I wasn’t smuggling drugs or weaving in and out of the road or something along those lines. The cop noticed that my friend in the car was a little nervous so he popped the question,” can I have your license and regressions please” Now this is a normal question; however, the DMV hasn’t sent me a license yet so I had to hand him this rinky dinky piece of paper and he looks at it and says “is this your license?” and I say “yes officer sorry I recently got my license so they haven’t sent me the card yet” he gives a shrug and says he’s going to run it through his system and heads back to the car. so he comes back and say ” So it says that you got your license 4 days ago so here’s what I could do, I could give you two tickets one for driving someone in your car and one for driving at 2 am but sense your still a new driver I don’t want to screw you over and ruin your driving career.” to cut the story a bit short he eventually lets me go after a few more embarrassing questions like ” it says you got your license on 9/11 is that correct” and I didn’t know so I just said yes and hoped it was correct. but we eventually got home say and on my way back from dropping off my friend, I passed by another cop who turned in my direction but didn’t pull me over maybe the other cop told them I already gotten got.

My crippling addiction

A little over a year ago, I was introduced to something that would come to change my life, probably for the worse. At first, I thought it was something innocent and fun, however, it turned sour and harmful very fast. You might be wondering now what this addiction could possibly be. Is it alcohol? Is it vaping? Is it hard drugs? No. It’s Stardew Valley. Now Stardew Valley is a simple 2D game that is a fun and chill game to play where you can farm, forge, mine, fish, befriend villagers, and other calm and relaxing activities, but Progen, how could this chill and relaxing game ruin your life? I HAVE NO IDEA WHY. for some god-forsaken reason, I can not stop playing that stupid game no matter how hard I try it’s physically impossible i am just addicted to the small dopamine I get for completing the quest or when doing another task in the game. I really need to stop because my grades are slipping because of that game along with my mental health.

Pink eye

To clear up some confusion, I did not get pink eye by engaging in unholy activities. My current hypothesis is that I got it at the motel I was staying at when I went to play volleyball or at the tournament and when I shook hands with the other team and then wiped my forehead, which caused the bacteria to get in my eye. I’m not a doctor, so I don’t know all the symptoms, but I can share the ones I was experiencing. The main few things were redness in my eyes, which made people a bit suspicious that I was doing some corrupt activities, itchiness in both my eyes (since I had it in both eyes), and the most interesting one was I was my eyes were sensitive to light so things look either really blurry or really bright I would go outside and just get blinded, and if I look at a lightbulb, I would see rainbows around it in a circle. Honestly, it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve experienced before. I would definitely rather have it than pink eye than a fever, so my rating is 4.5/10.

SHIN SPLINTS

Shin splints are a prevalent issue among athletes, caused by repetitive pressure and stress on the tibialis and the tibialis anterior tendons. This often happens when increasing the intensity of your training or if you have just begun training. Medically referred to as “medial tibial stress syndrome,” shin splints can cause symptoms like soreness, tenderness, and pain. These symptoms can mostly be treated with ice and lowering your training intensity, and trying to build up to where you want to be. However, if these symptoms are left unchecked, it can cause a stress reaction, which is a defense mechanism the body does under intense stress either physical or mental, and stress fracture in the foot, tibia, or even hip. The reason it can occur in the hip is the same reason a building will collapse if part of the support is taken out. With a weak base (the tibula in this case), then the whole structure will be weak. The hip will start compensating and having to much strain on it, causing micro fractures. These micro-fractures will often cause significantly more pain and rarely get treated due to the pain being not intense enough to go see a medical professional.

With your body undergoing your new style of training, it causes issues in your tendons and muscles but how does one fix this? Oftentimes times, the simplest treatment is the most effective for treating shin splints with ice and decreased intensity however, if your symptoms get check in with your doctor to try and fix the issue. However, it will most likely cause you to stop engaging in intense physical activities for a while.
