Golf

Lately, I’ve been really focusing on my golf game, and I can feel the improvement! I picked up golf during my sophomore year and, although I’ve played on and off, I’ve really dedicated myself for almost a year now. When I first started, I was shooting around 120 with a 33 handicap. Fast forward to today, and I have managed to bring that down to a 23 handicap. It might not be pro-level, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come. During my vacations, I’ve been training with my coach almost every day, working hard on my form. It’s made a huge difference, I’m also excited to be playing for my school again this Spring season. My next match is on April 2nd at Soule Park Golf Course. Hope my short game improves, especially chipping and putting. It will be crucial for me to at most 2-putt every hole to keep it under 100 in 18 holes. I will also need to be working with my driver on the slice it has gone better compare to the beginning but still got lots of space to work on.

Clippers game

On Saturday, I went to an LA Clippers game with my school, and it was an unforgettable experience. I think it was my sixth Clippers game, but this one felt different because I was surrounded by my friends and classmates. As we arrived at the arena, I could feel the excitement in the air. Our seats were not the greatest, but the view was actually way better than I expected. We were lucky that most of the Clippers’ players were not injured besides Ben Simmons. It was a neck-to-neck game against the Sacramento Kings. I think there were 12 ties in total in the game. Kawhi Leonard ended the game with a left hook buzzer beater. the crowd went crazy when he hit the left hooker and won the game for Clippers with score being 111-110. After the game, we all went down onto the court after the workers had cleared out the court for us. We were all able to shoot a free throw. It was an amazing experience even though we still had school the next day, and we got back to the dorms late too. But that day will be an unforgettable moment.

Spring sports

As the winter sports season ends, the spring season has started. At first, the school allowed me to do both Golf and Track and field. However, they changed their mind and thought it would be unfair for the golfers since I would just be taking their spots in the league final while they work hard to earn the spots. Therefore, I have switched back to golf and left track since there will be a bigger chance to win the league final champion in golf. Last year, we took back home 2nd place, we were 1st place after the first 9 holes, but lost in the back 9. Track was great, with the new coach that broke multiple records for his college and coached many athletes to all-American and D1 offers. I was planning on running 100 meters since I was the fastest among the sprinters. There won’t be as many track meets this year, since the coaches have to go to a camping trip during the 2 track meets, so I preferred golf since I will be playing more.

more Sports

As the spring season arrives after the team’s defeat in the basketball playoffs, I will be joining both track and golf for this season. During this season, I will mainly go to track for practices and meets. As for golf, I will still be playing in the games and league finals for the team but not going to the golf practices as often this year. I am excited for this season since I haven’t trained for track for a while. Last year, the spring season didn’t feel as competitive because I only did golf. However, with the new coach this season, who broke the record in his college when he was still a student, plus who coached multiple All-American athletes who are now in D1, I am truly excited for the new coaching system and will finish this year strong. There will be 6 track meets this season. The first one will be held on the 7th of March. I am planning on being a sprinter and running 200 and 400. My goal is to run 100 meters and be the fastest on the team.

Basketball

After the first league basketball game against Westmark, I wrapped up the match with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. It was a solid team effort, and we came out on top with a convincing victory, 46-27. The game started a bit slow for us in the first quarter, as we struggled to find our rhythm. However, the team stepped up together, and we tightened our defense significantly. One of the highlights was our incredible performance in the third quarter, where we managed to shut down Westmark completely, not allowing them to score any points. By the time we reached the fourth quarter, we had established a comfortable lead. This allowed our freshmen players to get their first playing time in the season, gaining experience and confidence. Overall, it was a satisfying start to the league with a record of 1-0, and I look forward to building on this momentum in our upcoming games since it is always great to start the season with a win.

We finished the tournament last week, and our team was in 4th place. The record is 2-2 now. In one of the losses, we lost to a buzzer-beater 3 down at the half court after coming back from down by 18 points. It was the 3rd game in the tournament on Wednesday. I had a bad game, posting 5 points and 6 rebounds. However, we will play them again in the season. We should beat them next time with different refs and new systems and plays. We finished the tournament with a win against Beacon Hill posting 8 points and 2 rebounds. Throughout the tournament it was not the best performance, I only averaged 6.8 points per game and 3 rebounds per game. The season starts today playing against Westmark. The goal is to get as many rebounds as possible minimize turnovers and start the season with at least 15 points.

Death Valley camping trip

I just came back from the Death Valley camping trip. It was a backpacking trip that was 4 days and 3 nights. Overall, The trip was fun, except I was sick right before I hopped on the van to start the journey. On the first day, it was mostly travel. On the van ride, we each picked 3 songs and created a playlist; after around 1 hour, everyone was already asleep. We had 1 stop at the gas station throughout the whole ride. We got some snacks and hopped back in the van to continue the journey. The dinner was pasta, but I was sick; I couldn’t taste or smell it, so I couldn’t tell if it was good or bad. It was around 5 degrees Celsius at night, which is around 36 degrees Fahrenheit. On the second day, we hiked with our day packs into this little valley. In the afternoon, we went to this crater from a volcano that had exploded billions of years ago. We played some spike ball inside, which was cool, but the hike back out of the crater was not it. Anyways, the temperature on the second night dropped to -5 degrees Celsius, which is 23 degrees Fahrenheit. On the third day, we backpacked a little without using vans or cars. I had the worst nosebleed on this day; it wouldn’t stop for around 1 hour. I used many tissues and paper towels to stop the blood. With the sickness, it was a terrible experience. However, now that I’m back from the trip. I would have enjoyed the journey more if I wasn’t sick. The views, from the sea salt flats to the rocks, valleys, mountains, and the stars, were unforgettable.

basketball

For basketball this week, it was short. Since we had a game the week after we returned from Christmas break. The practices were painful since I hadn’t moved much during the break. However, we played against Highland Hall and Summit View School. After both games, we still remain undefeated. I didn’t get to start in the starting lineup because I forgot to wear a tie since the coach asked the team to wear it before the game. However, during the game, I still got some decent minutes, but they were limited due to the weak calls from one of the referees. I had 3 fouls in the first half, which is surprising since I usually was never in foul trouble when I started in the starting lineup. But now that I got benched that game, I started the game with 3 fouls and ended the game with 4 fouls and 1 more foul from being fouled out.

Thanksgiving

During the one week break, I will leave school early to fly to New York. This morning, I woke up at 6 in the morning to finish packing the rest of clothes. My ride was booked at 7 in the morning. I had to wake up early since I had to finish laundry. Anyways, the main reason I have come to New York is to study for the SAT, since I only got 1000 to 1100 in the PSAT right now. My goal is to be getting at least 1450 by the end of this intensive training program. I met my english tutor when I was in 1st grade. He taught me english until 6th grade. He has started a company just for helping students with the SAT. He invited me last summer to join this program for this week. It is an eight-day program and it will start tomorrow, Saturday 8:50 in the morning. There will be other 7 people joining. Hopefully all goes well and I can get a better score on the SAT. The schedule for the rest of the 8 days is… starting at 9 in the morning the classes start and they end at 6:30 at night. I will be going to the gym after too to stay in shape for the upcoming basketball tournament right after the break.

Basketball

With the changes in the basketball schedule we will be back playing in the Newbury Tournament. It will be a week long with 3 games on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The games are right after thanksgiving break. Which is why we should keep condition ourselves during the break. We entered quarter finals last year therefore I hope we can go to the finals this time, with the new coach and new systems. I believe we will be ready for the upcoming season with the more organized basketball program this year. These three games will be important for us since it can affect our stats for the rest of the season. If we start out the season with winning it can give the team more confidence in the games for the rest of the season. During practice recently we have been practicing running the plays that we have learned so far including two defensive plays and 3 offensive plays. the practices recently has been more fun finally since we started running scrimmages in practices instead of just drills and conditioning.
