Welcome To the Future

The Jetson days have arrived!

In the early 1960’s people predicted that cars would fly and a robot named Rosey would clean your house. And while we don’t walk around in skin tight jump suits and don’t have glass elevators in our living rooms, we have certainly reached a new age for technology.

We gawked when they created the iPad. We jumped when they came up with the cell phone. We screamed for the new computer technology and we gasped at the invention of the car. Now, our eyes are open from forehead to chin and our mouths have dropped all the way down to our toes at the idea of a self-controlling automobile. That’s right! A car that can DRIVE ITSELF.

Jetsons

Rosey can’t believe it either. It turns out that Mercedes, a car company known for its slick style and prestige, may have created a vehicle that will change transportation for the better and rid the world of their fear of driving.

Just think…no more reckless driving, no more crashes and – not that I condone drunk driving – but the chances of losing your son or daughter at the hand of some idiot driver can be reduced to about one in a million…well, hopefully.

The only drawback is the price. This Mercedes made car will burn a very large hole in your wallet, a big $100,000 hole. But, if this incredible new invention blows up, then let’s hope that prices will lower and we will finally feel safer on the road.

So, is this new self-operating vehicle too good to be true? Well, the idea is still very young and still a prototype, but we will soon find out. Goodbye to reckless driving, hello to the future of automotive.

MICHAEL

This Is It… For the children of the 60’s all the way through to the 21st century it was hard to learn that their idol, role model, and King had finally sang his last song and passed away. But we all know that Michael Jackson’s music will live on throughout history for years and years.

King of Pop

Even after Jackson’s death his fans will be running to every store across the nation and around the world to buy his newest album. The  record entitled Michael contains 10 of the hundreds of songs that Jackson produced just a few years before his death. It is scheduled to make its debut on the 14th of this month and who knows how long it will be before every last copy is bought and the shelves of every department store, record store, and online store are empty.

M. Jackson

So, this is really it. One last walk on the moon after 51 years of musical excellence. Will we ever forget the man who put the “pop” into Pop Music? Probably not. His music will live on forever, continuously influencing todays artists.

In Loving Memory

Aliens Are Real!

ALIENS

Short story: I was searching for stories, interesting stories that would add a little color to my blog posts. Google search after Google search, I just couldn’t find the right story. The stories varied from articles on Pablo Picasso to stories about Michael Jackson‘s newest album. Then, I typed in “Animal News.. I came across the National Geographic web page and discovered what we have all been waiting to confirm. Yes folks, Aliens…………….. are real.

People claim to see UFO’s and then they claim to have been abducted in the middle of the night and later wake on a cold metal table where they are probed and prodded until they are sent back to earth. But we humans have now know that alien life exists and the live in our very own rain forests. It turns out that several new species have been found in Papau, New Guinea. The group consists of a new species of bug called a “Katydid” that has big, round, pink eyes and a “Tube-nose Fruit Bat” (see above picture). I don’t know about you but to me these new animals are WEIRD!

If you think that Aliens aren’t real…think again. * Que X-Files Theme Song*

Our Greatest Fears

Sometimes we lose the ones we love. They die from disease or even get killed. Then there are the times when they are taken from us and we are forced to imagine all the awful possibilities.

But, sometimes fate takes a hopeful turn and our loved ones are returned to us. We can only hope for the best right? That’s all we can do. A girl was found today. She and three others had gone missing about a week ago and they found her “bound and gagged in the basement of a home in Mount Vernon, Ohio.” She is safe, but who knows where the others are. Another girl was abducted in July. The mother raced after her daughters kidnapper, hoping to retrieve her four year old. She was found just a few days after. There have been seven other abductions within the last four months. As far as anyone knows they haven’t yet been found.

One Child One Life One Family

Do you remember Polly Klaas?  Polly was kidnapped on October 1, 1993. She was found, but not alive. Her death started a foundation that changed the lives of hundreds of families. The organization gives support to the devastated families of lost children. Some are never seen again. Some are found and return to the lives they once knew. So what can we do when our greatest fears come true. All we can do is hope. That’s all we can do.

My heart goes out to all families who have lost the ones they loved. Just remember there is always hope.

Bombing in Bangladesh

As anger spread throughout citizens, riots began and protesters stood firm outside a former prime minister’s home. The reason for all the rioting is the reason behind her eviction from her home. The government that now stands under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina removed her from the “compound” so that they could replace it with larger buildings, that would be beneficial for families who lost loved ones in a “mutiny at a paramilitary unit in Dhaka.”

It is said that the riots got so bad that tear gas was used against angry protesters and shots were fired. Some were killed after a bomb went off in the middle of the riots and was “detonated” in front of the residence of a member of parliament. It’s funny how our lives can change or even end because of a governments attempt to make life better when all it does is make other lives worse.

Enough Violence

‘Art Crime’

Graffiti

Are you an artist? What’s your medium? Music? Pencil and Paper? A bottle of spray paint and the South wall of your local bank? How many times have you been condemned for expressing you art? All of these questions are risen in my mind by two words, “Art Crime.”

A photograph can be argued over because it depicts a man laying naked with another man or it shows a woman dressed in torn, wet, fishnet tights and a ripped corset with make up leaking down her cheeks, holding a bottle of Whiskey, walking down the dark streets of San Fransisco. People get offended by images that show truths that most of us are unwilling to accept. That’s called provoking emotion. That is the sole purpose of art, to provoke emotion. So why is it that some art forms are illegal?

It’s true that some graffiti isn’t very pleasant to look at like gang tags and stupid anarchy signs that morons use to “mark their territory.” But, I literally don’t see anything wrong with the graffiti art that posted around the world. I mean the graffiti that actually has meaning and shape and colors and creativity. I don’t get what the big deal is. Graffiti is just painting but instead of using a canvas you use a building or a billboard or something like that. It’s just another way for artists to express their, well…..artistry.

X-Woman

We all enjoy a good laugh every once in a while. So, we result to looking up hilarious videos on Youtube or sometimes even look up weird news articles. Well, while I was searching for entertainment I stumbled upon what is probably the most unbelievable story I’ve read. But, here’s the thing, it’s the kind of unbelievable that’s so ridiculous you wonder if it could be true. You think, “There’s no way that’s real!” but, then that little voice in the back of head says, “How do you know it’s not?”

Here’s the story: A 40 year old woman from Indonesia is supposedly growing metal rods FROM HER BODY!

(Taken from funnymos.com)

Okay, take a second. Is your little voice going off? See! I’m not the only one. I mean what are we supposed to believe? The picture is right there! The article says that this woman has been growing these wires out of her for 18 years. She says that sometimes they will “retract back into her” and then pop up in a different area on her body.

It makes you wonder whether or not this woman staged the whole thing just to get recognized. Then it brings you back to the “Tree Man” who seems to literally be made up of tree trunks. So, maybe there is such thing as a metal filled woman who continues to grow such metal out of her skin. The article even says that doctors believe that this anomaly is not a publicity stunt, but a true story. How weird!!!!

Battle of the Sexy

In all the time that television has existed there has been controversy about the overexposure of actors (mostly female) to their youthful fans. Their careers start out with a bubblegum pop image and then as soon as their fan-base grows to over a million the bomb drops; racy photos and videos that leave us flabbergasted.

Glee - GQ

Everyone remembers the concern parents had when Britney Spears went from Mickey Mouse Club princess to “not that innocent.”

And we can all recognize the semi nude photos taken of Miley Cyrus that were leaked out to the public and even the ones that aired in last years November issue of Marie Claire.

But, this year’s big dispute involves everyone’s favorite singing superstars: the cast of Glee.

The Tide is High but We’re Voting On

Pot Fields

It is an exciting year for registered voters around California. Mostly because this year is the deciding year in the legalization of marijuana. It all comes down to the pot smokers of America and after November 2nd, 2010, those pot heads just might get the chance to “pineapple express” themselves more freely than ever before.

But, those free-living, foggy headed stoners may have to fight extra hard for the legalization of their favorite happy drug. Of course – as there has always been – there is controversy between pot smokers and well…everyone else.

There is clear opposition to this lightheaded lifestyle. Some people will fight just as hard if not harder (mostly because their opponents will be a bit more coherent and won’t be laughing as much at the opposing argument) to keep the oh-so-popular ‘wacky tobacky‘ out of the hands of America’s loyal citizens, and especially the hands of America’s youth.

A.P.E.S. Goes Ape

Last week the AP Environmental Science class took a 5 hour journey across to the Owens Valley. The trip was specifically meant to teach us about water and its own journey from the Owens Valley River into L.A.’s water system. We saw the river, we saw Mono Lake, we saw the aquaducts, but one thing that caught my eye out of all the things we learned was the relocation camp known to us as Manzanar.

In the early 40’s America was faced with yet another war which led to a nationwide paranoia. So, as a result we decided to avoid “danger” and contain all Japanese people – citizens and non-citizens of the U.S. – in one area (in several different states). It was a relocation camp. President Franklin D. Roosevelt argued that this “cleansing” was justified because the government  would go about establishing the evacuation using “the American way”. We all know that that was just a euphemism for “we won’t kill them”….(unless of course they don’t follow our rules). Three cheers for the American way!

In the end, a trip that started out as an informative, water discovery, week-long, field trip turned into a heart breaking, mind changing, discovery of ourselves and our history.  Thank you Mr. Wickenhaeuser and thank you Ms. Davis for that amazing – and amusing – camping trip.
