The Expendables

After a week of OVS, the weekend is a much-needed reprieve.  With multiple AP classes, being a senior and just being a teenager, life is quite exhausting.

So when that Friday ‘bell’ rings, its time to kick back and enjoy some….male gratuitous violence??

Yeah so for all the guys out there, here is a good list of things to do to get that ‘fix’

1.  Call of Duty: Black Ops.  When playing COD the best option is always zombies.  Being placed in some form of derelict environment with hundreds of brain craving undead after you and the only defense a plethora of automatic weapons.  OH YEAH that’ll do it.

2. ANY RACING GAME. Well when you have the option of crashing a 2.5 million dollar Bugati Veyron into an on-coming Aston-Martin at 250 miles an hour, seriously what could be more fun.  Or perhaps drifting a Ferrari 458 Italia around a 180 degree turn.

3.  But my personal favorite and the highlight of my weekend, was watching the Expendables movie.  Well really any movie with Sylvester Stalone or Jason Stathan is a true adrenaline pumping man’s movie.  The  Expendables movie, though, has both, plus a number of other action-super stars.  With little plot line to speak of, there is really only one thing that the movie has going for it, lots and lots and lots of gratuitous violence.

OVS Football

Today, Saturday the 24th, was the first OVS football game.  Twenty plus guys and one girl went out and fought valiantly against East Valley.

It was quite a game, and more than a few times I found myself yelling and jumping up and down as OVS players ran the ball up and down the field.

It was quite a good turnout as well, with many OVS Upper students coming down as well as many Lower School students and faculty.  I came to the game with my dad and we brought our lunches, and had a nice afternoon watching testosterone brimming boys pummel each other.

In the end, though, the mighty Spuds were defeated.  There defeat was in no part a lack of heart or effort on the OVS team.  The sweat was visibly dripping down their faces and soaking their clothes yet they never relented.  The “OVS Champions” came out the second half and really stepped it up.  A real scramble at every play OVS made East valley work for every inch or ground gained.

As OVS is a very young  team, this was the first game for many player.  Even with the clear ‘green’ of the team, they did not lack heart what-so-ever.  Many of East Valley’s touchdowns were scored merely off of errors on OVS’ part that, with the continued diligence of coaching staff, will soon be corrected, and OVS football will be a force to be reckoned with.

Gaming, in all its glory

As many people are already aware, I am quite the dabbler when it comes to video games.  Really any kind of game “floats my boat.”  Whether that be shooting terrorists, saving the universe from some alien race or just driving a Bugati Veyron at top spead into oncoming traffic.

The thing is, video games allow one to really do well just about anything.  A lot of people often associate gaming with nerdy or geeky people, and the really only exceptions is frat boys getting together to bust out some Call of Duty multiplayer.

But the truth is, video games are an art form in themselves. The countless months, and sometimes years it takes to create a game is remarkable.  In essence video games create an entire article virtual world with its own laws and physics, when said that way, they seem pretty awesome.

It really is a true business.  As much as designers wished gaming studios ran similar to Grandmas Boy, they don’t. Many designers really put their heart and souls into designing their games.

When I played Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, russians invade the eastern seaboard, and you play through a war-torn Washington DC, fighting towards the capital building.  In it their is a scene of the half-destroyed Washington monument, and it is really a piece of art.  The entire world is rendered on a computer with the intention of millions of people playing through it in their own ways. Imagine creating a world that can filter and allow millions of different choices and decisions, it like creating another world.

In essence that is what Video games really are. And I dabbler in them whenever I can.

Contagion

This afternoon I went to go see the new movie Contagion.  It is a thriller about a world-wide epidemic that in the end wipes out 26 million people across the globe.

The movie is extremely realistic with the virus being a strain between pig and bat DNA.  The film tracks the spread of the virus through the airports, busses, and casinos.  The virus spreads by about any form of exposure to a contagious victim.

After watching the film it really makes me think about how many times I touch my face, and the amount of times I touch things that thousands of people have touched.  It is truly amazing though how strong the human immune system is that it can combat the multitudes of bacteria that enters the body every day.

In Contagion, even with a ‘novel’ virus it still only takes about 3 months for the world  to contain the virus.  Even though it is a fictional film, it still makes for quite a thriller and a real mind bender.

Brush Clearing

Today for my community service hours for OVS, I had the job of clearing all seven water pipe heads and the pipes around the water tanks on back gate.

I got driven out to the last one close to the 150, and was told “goodluck see you back at school”

And so with a plow, a scraper thing, clippers and a pickaxe I began the long day of clearing brush.

Seven heads, a bench, and the water tanks later I was done.  AND I only finished half my hours.

But to be honest I actually enjoyed it.  I had some tunage going and a lot on my mind so it went fairly quickly.  I only have a few blisters so in all it was a pretty good day.  After work I went for a great drive to top off the day.

Traffic School

Yesterday, April 30th Saturday.  I had traffic school, all day.  Now traffic school is pretty bad,  basically I just sat there and they “taught” us the rules of the road…again?   Now I was sitting next to a woman who looked like she was born in like 1869 or something. She was old.  It was an eight-hour course and by golly it was very boring.  To my credit, I didn’t sleep or play on my phone the whole time, I did pay attention.

The best part though, was they showed us a video of 10 drugs not to take while driving and it was really funny, but for some reason in German….

Basically what I am saying is do not get pulled over and get a ticket, because you will have to go to traffic school, and that is not fun.

Prom

OVS was my first prom, and it was fun.  It took so much effort from everyone and it came out great.  ON top of that I got to ride in the party bus and we just well, partied all the way to Prom.

The food and glow sticks, and well all of it was simply great.  The Dj was good, and he even offered me a job! (and he’s Jewish; just sayin).

What I liked most about the Prom was the photos though.  They were done really well and I took some very funny pictures…with Mr. Cooper.  I must thank OVS for such a wonderful opportunity to have a prom.

GOtta love the Coopster

Space

As a little kid I always wanted to be an astronaut.  I mean what boy didn’t.  It’s one of those cliché things that every little kid must do.  But what is going to happen to all the little kids now that Obama has stopped manned shuttle voyages.

Kids are going to have to fantasize about not as cool jobs, like firemen or police officers.

Now look at the astronauts themselves.  The entire US astronaut corps will all be out of work.  And let’s be honest, most places are looking for job experience and management skills, not men and woman who go and kick it in space on a regular occasion.

So to conclude I think all of us need to band together to help save our Astronauts.

SAVE OUR SPACIES!!!!!!

My Music

MY HEROES
I love music, all kinds of music, and yes I even love country.  In fact, when driving up to OVS in the mornings, I listen to the highway country station on sirius.  Oddly enough, most recently I have been cycling between classic rock and dub step.

On the classical side, bands such as Van Halen, Rainbow, and Guns and roses. And of course guys like Bruce Springsteen and Brian Adams.  Now I believe that there is a type of music for every situation.  For instance, my classic rock playlist is only used for driving longer distances, usually alone.  Classic rock has a way of just flowing and it passes time really quickly.

BUT when the weekend hits and all the boys squish into someones much to small car, its time for LMFAO, Hyper Crush and BassNector.  Now these bands are what really get the party started.  Heavy Bass and sounds that most adults probably cant even hear anymore.  Most adults also say this is bad music because of the subliminal messages of drugs and alcohol, buts its no worse then anything else.  Point of fact: I LOVE DUBSTEP. And I totally have a crush on the girl from Hyper Crush

Sky High

Ok so for those of you that don’t know, Sky High is a trampoline gym in Camarillo.  There is a giant court where the entire floor is trampolines and all the walls have trampolines on them as well.  They have a foam pit as well that you jump into and, my favorite of all, TRAMPOLINE DODGEBALL!

Now I think Sky High is one of the coolest places in the area.  For me, I go to Sky High about five times a week.  Two days to work and the other days to jump.  I think everyone should go atleast once and see whats its all about, because let me tell you, it is FUN.

Its also any age appropriate.  We have a separate room for kids under eight, with all the same things as the main room, and a parents lounge where you can watch TV or one of the courts to watch your kid jump around.
