Lana Del Rey.

Lana Del Ray

Lana Del Rey is an American singer-songwriter from New York. Born Elizabeth Grant, her music is reminiscent of old cinematic songs mixed with indie pop and blues. It is believed that she adapted the stage name Lana Del Rey from the 40’s to 80’s late actress Lana Turner and the 80’s Ford Del Rey car. The name suits her persona as her style is very old society, old America and Hollywood glamor.

Lana released her first songs Blue Jeans and Videogames in October 2011. Since their release, the New York singer has hit success around the globe. In England she has gained a lot of recognition for her music. Her popularity among the people led to London Show tickets being sold out in 3o minutes on release.

With a rusty, unique voice, simple lyrics, and beautiful backing sounds Lana Del Rey is really someone worth listening to. Her alternative sounds and fabulous old style music videos really show her for a true star.

In the Bath is the place to be.

Bubbly,

Atmospheric,

Therapeutic,

Hot.

Relaxing bath

Baths are one of the nicest things on cold days. Fill up the tub with hot water, add some bubble bath or bath salts, and climb in for a long soak. Feel the water lap around you body and fill you with warmth and sooth your limbs.

The bath is really a place I could spend all day.

In the bath is somewhere where you can contemplate decisions and think over new ideas. The hollow tub is truly a place of reflection where your thoughts are free to fill your mind and trickle into your thought processes.

Lying in a bath you are often filled with the sense of peace and tranquility both around you and in your soul.  It is a place to relax, kick back and be free.

In the bath is the place to be.

Winter Winds.

Autumn
Yes, Winter is coming. Although the sun is still shining in sunny California, the  temperature change does not reflect this warmth. Stepping out into the crisp, cool air it is evident that the Winter winds have began to blow and with this the cold weather has arrived.

The seasons of Winter andAutumn are really picturesque. As the tree’s leaves begin to fall and the ground transforms into a carpet of the auburns and oranges, everything else begins to turn green and return to life. Walking out among the beauty, one can’t help  but to gaze in amazement at the array of colors.

This time of year is a period when you need to put on your big coats, layer up and put on your warm boots. Now that the cold weather has come it’s beautiful to venture out but afterwards you have every excuse to stay at home and be lazy. Gather your blankets, make a large mug of hot coco, put on some classic films and snuggle on the sofa in front of an open fire.

Many complain about the cold temperature change, but for me it’s pure luxury.

Stars.

stars

The stars at night shine so bright,

Yet none of them shine for me.

I looked afar upon a star,

But the light I could not see.

A clear, starry night is one of the beauties of the world that can be viewed from anywhere across the globe. The stars that spread like a sea of sprinkles in the abyss of the night sky, wrap the world in their protecting light and magnificence. Each star an individual glowing ball of light comes together to form a constellation, a piece of art. Alike connect the dots the eye can create images and art from this spread of random dots.

The stars at night shine so bright,

and they are so beautiful to see.

An Inner Battle.

Eagle
Sometimes there’s only so much you can do when the world is crumbling at your feet. Despite the pain, fear and distress you have to fight through no matter what. Those down days we experience are for a reason, feel them, feel the loneliness, feel the hurt, but at some point you have to come out the other end, not feeling sorry for yourself.

Since my sister left I have felt down and weary. I missed England, I missed my life, I missed everything. As I began to climb into the deep slumber of regret and sadness I forgot about everything else. Not wanting to be where I was, everyday became a greater chore. My life in California became a chore.

So as everything slipped away I thought it was about time to suck it up and not give up the fight. Driving home from school, my windows wound down, my music blaring, the sky serenely blue, the mountains picturesque on the horizon and an eagle circling overhead, I couldn’t help but to love life.

Sometimes letting go is hard but you often have to realize the good things you have in the present to gradually push away the past.

The Invention of Caring.

love

As I stood watching my sister and mother embrace for the last time, I couldn’t help but feel touched. Tears streamed down their faces and they hung to each other in an attempt to cherish their last moments together.

Just like that first day when she kicked and screamed to go to play group, her first day at school, and her first fulltime job, my sister was again crying unwilling to leave our mothers side. Except this time the 11 hour flight left them separated by distance.

A phone call can mean so much but when you know someone’s so far away your heart yearns for that person to be next to you, filling the gaping hole that waits in their place.

A mother is not just someone you went to school with, or someone who you met on train, or even just a relative. She is someone who you grew inside and was nurtured by. She is the person that taught you to walk, took you to school, made you pack lunches. She is the person that loves you unconditionally no matter what.

Those days that I hear my sister cry because she misses our mums cooking or even just misses her company is heart wrenching. Tears down a phone line hurt and cut both my mum and sister to pieces, but tears face-to-face damage them so much deeper.

Watching my sister and mother embrace for the last time, I couldn’t help but to care.

Fast Food.

in-n-out

Fast food, in the eyes of many, means bad food.  I am going to stand up against the masses and say this is not always the case. Ok it’s greasy, fatty and is often a heart attack wrapped in a piece of paper but it can, and often does, taste good.

The one thing with fast food is that if your going to eat it you have to go all out and eat it properly.  Eat it properly what do you mean? I hear you ask. No this does not mean supersize your meal, instead it means go to the right place.

Fast food does not have to be fake food. Today as I waited for my In-N-Out Burger I admired the chef’s making fries from peeled potatoes. Yes there were real vegetables in a fast food kitchen. I know, a miracle right? Not all fast food is made from frozen fries and flesh; instead some is made extremely fresh.

Although fast food is full of fat, and a lot of the time you don’t want to know what’s inside what you’re eating, there are some times when what you’re eating is not as sinister as you believe. Fast food tastes good and can sometimes be better than you think.

Middle Land

Midland
Midland or Middle Land, a small school that is defined by its name. It is literally a school that is in the middle of nowhere. Built up of rustic buildings and open grassland, the campus is like walking into a time warp with a few unique changes.

It is a campus that defines the school and it’s principles, seen because it’s battered ancient façade but filled with knowledge and wisdom. As they say with age comes great wisdom and this is definitely the case with this school.

Filled with pride, the school is about teaching who you are. With no personal technology accessible to the students they are really taught to explore who they really are and what the world is really about.

Comparable to a Waldolf Steiner School, Midland really is unique. Although not suitable for everyone it is a place of insight and reflection where one can think about their values and lives.

Driving at Night.

Driving

No this is not another driving disaster; in fact it is quite the opposite. Yes, surprisingly I have accomplished something successful in my driving career so far and that is driving in the dark.

I have driven in the dark before, but not a long distance.  So as I drove from Los Olivos to Ojai carrying my sleeping family in the car I enjoyed the sights.
As I smoothly traveled along the 101 highway I looked at the numerous lights that passed me by. Thinking about their similarities to the stars and how many reminded me of fireworks you may see on the 4th of July, I really wondered at their beauty.

Surrounded by wonder, the 101 had transformed from what I had previously seen in the day, The buildings that looked shabby and worn down in the day were now transformed into houses of wonder and light. Cat’s eyes that stood in the middle of the road glimmered like shining stars and the moon shone bright in the sky highlighting passing clouds and the land around me. It was really picturesque.

Drive in the dark if you ever want to see another light.

Consumerism.

monopoly man

I am a victim of consumerism. Yes, I admit it I love to shop, spend and snap up those sales. Shamefully I am a greedy, lustful consumer. But you know what, that’s what a lot of the world is shaped around these days. Ok, so I’ve always been a keen consumer but today I really realized the error of my ways.

The simple scenario that mapped out my sinful deeds began with a fast food shop they like to call McDonalds and the simple game of monopoly. Yes that time of year is back, Monopoly at McDonalds.

The sinful time when you are encouraged to buy fatty goodies in order to win cars, holidays and spa days has returned and I have been its first victim. Today I bought two McDonalds. Yes I repeat two McDonalds, breakfast and dinner. The concept of winning a prize from a meal was just too much, but no I did not win.

So whilst I counted the individual monopoly tickets I realized how I had become a victim. I had become a victim to games and consumerism. Now it’s time for me to change.
