The Mole People

Whenever I get on the subway in New York, I immediately and nervously position myself in front of a window with a hope of observing Mole People.

These people are quite different from other homeless ones: they live in abandoned subway stations under major cities. Surprisingly, this population includes a mixture of lawyers, doctors, and other people of highly respected professions.

But just why would such affluent people join this society? This question lingered in my head for years. My current best answer relates to the madness of the big cities.

According to my experiences, cities like New York City and Los Angeles seem to possess extreme insanity in politics, economy, and other fields. Regretting such depravity, these people could have possibly found the Mole society as escapism.

So, are they benign, harmless, or malignant? So far, no one knows anything factually. A lot of hypothetical research and projects have been carried out about these mysterious people. However, insufficient evidence and impenetrable structure of the society caused all these attempts to become failures.

Like Henry David Thoreau, they might have found the inner happiness within the darkness. However, everything about this population is questionable. Thus, returning us to the beginning of the research, the Mole People remains strictly clandestine today.

  1. What a fascinating observation about human nature. As I sit here, writing grades and comments, I wonder to myself — how do I join such an underground society???

    • Indeed, this topic ran acrossed my mind when I felt like my life was being measured by a ruler or “grades.” But I hope this article doesn’t become a bad influence in your career. good luck!
