Yes the U.S have gone and done it. You’ve stolen one of our great British programs and created your own version. How could you! Well actually I suppose it’s quite easy. Ok, that slightly defeats my message….
Lets start again, how could you recreate a typically British program in America. I understand Skins is a brilliant drama but why would you defeat the object of the program being British, and Americanize it?
I understand it is an extremely brilliant show and can see why the U.S would want it but MTV has stolen it from the British’s clutches and copied it, I mean they even have the same plots and characters with similar names just different actors. Surely it would make more sense just to play the English version.
In all respects I can see why it has been done, and i’m sure I will definitely be watching the show on its release, but still it’s an English’s program! I sincerely hope the English producers have been well reimbursed for this incident.
So I guess you are wondering what is Skins. Skins is an BAFTA award winning teen drama, following a group of teenagers in Brixton whilst they are at college. The show focuses on a group of wild rebels whose aim in life is to live life to the max with absolutely no boundaries.
It explores various themes particularly focusing on teen issues such as drugs, alcohol, sexuality, health and dysfunctional families. The beauty of Skins is that it is extremely entertaining yet educational.
I suppose it will be interesting to see how the U.S and MTV recreate or copy the show. In some ways I really hope they do the program justice, as it may affect the reputation of the originals.
In my opinion it must be said that MTV will never be able to recreate and improve the beauty of the original two British series. I would advise that if you are thinking of watching the U.S series make sure you view the English originals first, so you can enjoy the program in all its glory.
Just wait and see, America always does it best!
