New Pets!

I absolutely love animals more than anything. I really do. I love wild animals, and of course, I love pets!

Over the years, my family has had cats, birds, bunnies, guinea pigs, and fish. They have all been pretty amazing pets.

But sadly, this past year, 2 of my cats have died, and the one still living has a fist-sized tumor in his liver. My parents took my cat Smokey to the vet, and she told us we will have to put him down within the next week if he survives for that long. I will miss his so much.

When I found out about it, I couldn’t imagine coming home to a house without my cats, or any pets at all for that matter. So, I was VERY happily surprised when my Mom told me she is going to get a puppy and two kittens!!!

I am completely overwhelmed with excitement right now. My family has never had a dog before. Ever. I have always been so jealous of my friends and other families that have dogs – and now I finally get to have one 🙂

My friend decided she would come help me look for a new dog and kittens that I like, so we took at trip to the Milpitas Humane Society yesterday. There were SO many cute dogs and cats.

I am just so glad my family and I get to adopt a cute animal and provide a home for an animal that needs one.

We’re still searching, and on Monday I am SO EXCITED to go to another humane society with my Mom and hopefully pick out a new member of the family.

There goes reality

Last friday, a brand new video game game out, The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim was released.  It is the fifth game in the huge RPG series based on the fantasy province of Tamriel.

One of the best things about this game is the vast amount of things one can do.  For instance killing a chicken becomes a moral dilemma that will usually follow by a mob of angry townsmen.  One could also become a dragon slaying enemy infested spelunker

I have now logged about 22 hours of play time and I have only completed about 14% percent of the game.  You could literally spend hours just wondering around the game going from the wind-swept peaks to the deep marshes.

Basically this is the one game to rule them all. Period.

Rizzle Kicks.

Rizzle Kicks

I find that mainstream hip-hop gets boring. In many cases artists release songs that sound identical, use similar lyrics and just do not have any flare to them. That’s why when I heard Brighton’s hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks I couldn’t help but to love them.

Rizzle Kicks are a two-man group from Brighton, England. Consisting of Jordan Stephens and Harley Alexandar-Sule, the pair produce alternative hip-hop, pop, music.

Unlike songs by many mainstream stars, they produce music that is unique, authentic and real. Their lyrics are simple but effective, talking the truth and shedding light on everyday subjects.

Releasing their album Stereo Typical on October the 31st 2011, the band has received much admiration from the English Public with their single “Down With the Trumpets” coming #8 in the U.K charts.

Rizzle Kicks may not be for everyone, but they are worth listening to. Their catchy, upbeat songs and alternative sounds are fun and offer a change from mainstream sounds that fill many radio stations these days.

Controversy over… Soup?

Today in our senior class meeting, something unexpected and very surprising happened. And to be honest, even though it does not have a direct effect on me, it still bothers me. A lot.

Student council has proposed the idea of a soup lunch. Once a week we would serve only soup, salad, and bread, and the money saved would be donated to a charity of our choice to help people in need.

The unbelievable part is that this simple, easy, and helpful plan has basically been denied. Why? Because a small number of students feel like it is not a good idea for some strange reason.

I would like to say that I am sympathetic and that I also see it from their point of view, but unfortunately I don’t. The students who objected brought concerns about where the money is going, how much we will raise, and how they don’t want to skip a meal. But really, soup, bread, and salad is a very substantial meal that many less fortunate people out there would be ecstatic to have each day.

There are 20 meals served each week. And out of all of those, we can’t find the selflessness to give up one single meal to help others.

What’s happened to all the generosity in this world?

Honesty

Honestly, (ha), I don’t understand some people’s logic/morals anymore.

It’s as if honesty is not even a common thing anymore.

There are lies as simple as “that was my last piece of gum”, and then there are much, much more complicated lies.

I know that sometimes, a little white lie is necessary and harmless. But, where is that line between little lies and big lies?

I believe that people have forgotten that honesty is EASY. I mean, it really is.

And, being honest more often seems to lead to less mishaps in the first place that may seem to require lies later on.

I know everyone who has ever walked this earth has most likely been hurt by a lie that didn’t need to be told.

Honesty is the most important quality in a person, in my opinion. So, as of today, I am making a promise with myself to be honest about anything to anyone.

People need to realize this, and do the same… They really do.

Lana Del Rey.

Lana Del Ray

Lana Del Rey is an American singer-songwriter from New York. Born Elizabeth Grant, her music is reminiscent of old cinematic songs mixed with indie pop and blues. It is believed that she adapted the stage name Lana Del Rey from the 40’s to 80’s late actress Lana Turner and the 80’s Ford Del Rey car. The name suits her persona as her style is very old society, old America and Hollywood glamor.

Lana released her first songs Blue Jeans and Videogames in October 2011. Since their release, the New York singer has hit success around the globe. In England she has gained a lot of recognition for her music. Her popularity among the people led to London Show tickets being sold out in 3o minutes on release.

With a rusty, unique voice, simple lyrics, and beautiful backing sounds Lana Del Rey is really someone worth listening to. Her alternative sounds and fabulous old style music videos really show her for a true star.

Nigel Tufnel Day

Although I usually write about politics, today is a very special day, special enough to write about something else.

In Asia, today is singles day (because the date is made up of ones). In the US (as well as many other countries), it is considered an auspicious day.

But for Spinal Tap fans such as myself, 11/11/11 is Nigel Tufnel Day.

This day was chosen based on the famous scene where Nigel explains why his amp goes to 11.

Now if you have not seen Spinal Tap, go see it, now. It is a fantastically funny movie as well as being a cultural staple.

I cannot count how many times I have seen and I am now at the point that I can recite almost every line.

What makes this movie special is that, although it makes fun of Rock & Roll, the musicians/actors in the movie are actually quite talented. They play hilarious songs but they play them well.

If you enjoy humor and good music, watch this movie. It will help you in dinner conversations when people refer to the movie and it will help you in life because every time you see the number 11 you will giggle a little bit.

P.S. I would like to also acknowledge Veteran’s Day. Although there is this very silly post about a very silly movie, it is also a day to say thank you to the people who put their life on the line every day. Thank you to those men an women who put their lives on the line to protect us at home. You get an 11 out of 10.

Trying Something New

Stepping out of my comfort zone is not an easy thing for me to do.
Generally, I don’t like to try new things, especially if I have to commit to them for a long time.

To be honest, I’m afraid of being bad at things that I try.

But this year, I promised myself that I would take new and appealing opportunities that came my way.

So, on a whim, I decided to join the soccer team.

It’s funny when I think about it, it really is. I am sort of clumsy, and I am the slowest runner you will ever meet. I also have no stamina what so ever. I knew I would end up making a fool of myself, but then I decided I didn’t care one bit if I did or not. I mean, how bad could I be?

The answer is, not too bad actually. Although I am very slow and have never played a day in my life before, it turns out I don’t suck as much as I thought I would. I was the manager/helper in past years of soccer, so I already know most of the rules and how the games work.

I know it’s not going to be easy by any means, but I’m so excited for this season. And honestly, I just wish I had joined sooner. Our first game is the week we get back from Thanksgiving break, and I can’t wait!

GO SPUDS! 🙂

Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder…

Everybody told me that long distance would be trouble. That it would hurt. That it wouldn’t be worth all the stress–especially during my senior year.

But I, being the stubborn love-struck puppy I was, didn’t listen. Nope. I didn’t want to believe what people said, so I didn’t. I told myself that it would be easy.

Now, here I am sitting in my room in Ojai, California. 2643.071 miles away from my boyfriend of two and a half years.

It’s funny. In the beginning, I had kind of wished Kai was a recluse that veered away from any female contact.

But again, the beginning was the hardest part. The time difference made it even worse. He was already at school when I would wake up most days and by the time study hall ended, it was around 12:30 in the morning where he was.

And boy, would we argue. Over the most minuscule things. I argued because we were so far. He argued because of the time difference. We argued because we missed each other. We argued. And. We argued.

I began to wonder if they were right. If long distance was too much for me to handle. It seemed, with all my college applications and school work, that they might be right.

But, as much as we fought and as much as I hated the distance, I did not want to give up.

And I didn’t. Things got better, and I honestly don’t think that long distance is all that horrible. Sure, it takes a while to get used to but if you love him (or her), all of those frustrations–those initial arguments, getting used to the time difference–was worth the greater moments when I would get to hear his voice on the phone or see his face on Skype.

I still miss him dearly and love him so much. And I don’t regret choosing to be in this long distance relationship with him. He makes me happy although I don’t get to be with him nearly as much as I did last year which turned out to be a good thing. I have more time for friends and more importantly, when I do get to see him, it makes it all the more special. It’s almost like we just started dating. There isn’t anybody I’d rather have than him.

So let me tell you from my experience that eventually, distance truly does make the heart grow fonder.

The Great Barrier Reef

Look at how pretty this is.

The Great Barrier Reef is 500,000 yeas old, located in the coral reef off the coast of Queensland which is the North Eastern part of Australia. It is the world’s largest reef system. There are more than 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands scattered over 133,000 square miles. In 1981, The Great Barrier Reef was selected as a World Heritage Site.

I have traveled to Fitzroy Island, which is one of the islands of The Great Barrie Reef, when I used to live in Australia. We had to travel by boat for two and a half hours there. It was very windy, and I remember my mom getting sick very badly. I was little so I was just sitting away from her getting confused how to help…

I snorkeled there and the corals and fishes were too pretty… The ocean was light blue, and the sun makes the ocean prettier. The corals had a lot of colors and fishes were hiding between the corals which was fun to watch.

If I get a chance to go there next time, I would definitely scuba dive. I miss Australia so bad…
