Week’s worst people #1: Philadelphia Flyers fans

Everybody knows how much I love Philadelphia. I love the Eagles. I love the Phillies. I AM a New Jersey Devils fan, so I don’t really care for the Flyers. But, I love the fans. That is, until a very sad occurrence. On Wednesday night, while an anti-cancer PSA was being played on the Jumbo-tron, the fans booed Sidney Crosby, who was shown in the PSA.

If you aren’t a fan of the NHL, most fans don’t really care for Sidney Crosby. I’m not sure why. However, I don’t like him either so I don’t know why I’m vouching for his respect. He’s a good player, ’nuff said.

Ok, obviously the fans weren’t booing cancer. That would just be sick. I think it was just a passionate group of fans channeling their passion at the wrong time.

I apologize to anyone this action may offend. Take a look at the PSA for yourself. Don’t worry, the Flyers’ fans won’t boo you.

Volleyball hosts “Dig for the Cure”

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Week, On October 16th, the Umass Volleyball team will be hosting an event entitled “Dig for the Cure.”

During its game against Southern Connecticut State, players will be selling T-shirts, and pledges, and admission tickets. Each pledge per “dig” during the game, along with all of the proceeds from the sales of their merchandise will be going directly and entirely put toward the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

I believe that this cause is very important and influential, and we should all reach out in this effort. It would be cool if our OVS athletic teams could try to participate in our own spin off of this idea, in correspondence to whatever project we decide to donate to at the time.
