The Avengers

I can’t even tell you how excited I am for The Avengers to hit theaters!

When I was a little girl, my parents took me to vacation at the family beach house in Ventura.  The bedroom I slept in had a chest of drawers and in the bottom drawer was a mountain of original Marvel and DC comic books.  There were Spiderman and Batman, Justice League and Avengers comics piled so high that the drawer barely closed.  I used to sit on the floor at the foot of the bed for hours, reading and rereading all these strange, colorful stories.

And so I became enamored of the Marvel Universe (Batman was a separate favorite).  Naturally, I went to see all the Marvel movies when they came out.

I absolutely adore Robert Downey Jr.  The first movie I saw that he starred in was Iron Man.  It is one of my very favorite movies, Iron Man 2 was better though.

I saw The Incredible Hulk, Captain America and Thor.

And those movies were good.  Really good.  I love action movies, attractive people and super heroic snazziness.  And Marvel movies have those three things in spades.

My sisters are  on their first backpacking trip, and they get back Friday.

They’re super cool and they like all the same actors and actresses as I do, so we’re going to have a freak-out party in the theater when we go to see it the night they get back.

Oh yes, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth (not a fan of Liam but Chris is amazing), Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson all in one movie????

It is going to be magnificent.  I can’t wait!!!

Bring on the Iron

As a little kid and still I guess, I have always loved superheroes.  My favorite ones have always been marvel characters (minus the Green Lantern).

In my opinion the greatest Marvel characters are obviously the Avengers.  Who the true core team is always in flux as well as who is indeed their leader, their affiliation with S.H.I.E.L.D, which stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

The core Avengers though are: Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Ant/Giant Man, and The Wasp.

Personally I think it is all about Iron Man.  Tony Stark is a normal human, with no powers of his own except for what he can create. Allow though he is a genius, he lacks the physical supernatural powers of the others.

Although he is not as strong as the Hulk, courageous as Capt. America, or commands the power of Asgard as Thor does, he is still perhaps the most capable warrior of all.  His ability to adapt to any circumstance is what allows Iron Man to always come out on top.

Truly the Man in Steel or rather some other incredibly rare and unknown metal has the brains, power and ingenuity to be the greatest Avenger.

Top 5 Movies Coming Out In 2011

Top 5 Movies Coming Out In 2011

These are my favorites

1: The Hangover 2

The highly dreaded sequel to the Hangover can either make or break the success of the first movie. Set in Thailand, Phil, Alan, and Doug are all invited there for Stu’s wedding. This sequel has more riding on it than just its own success; the comedy of the first one will be lost forever on many people, or, if the sequel to a movie that needs no sequel works out, will be exponentially funnier.

2: The Tree of Life
This is one of those movies for which the trailer says almost nothing about the plot, but still makes you want to see it. As far as I understand, Brad Pitt is Sean Penn’s father, but that’s about it. The trailer, however, shows a powerful display of incredible filmography and has a beautiful soundtrack, moving in its own right. This movie has the potential to be an Oscar Winner from the looks of it, I just hope it lives up.

3: Battle: LA

Ok, two things. One, I know it’s already out, but I haven’t seen it, so it still counts on this list. Two, I also know that it didn’t get the best reviews, but think about it, Battle… LA… Aliens attack… what did you expect?

4: Cowboys and Aliens

This movie looks even more mindless than Battle: LA. For one, it’s called “Cowboys and Aliens,” and from the looks of the trailer, the cowboys win. Also, it looks like seeing it would make me just that much dumber. It’s redeeming quality that put it on this list is that I get the feeling that after I walk out of the theatre, I will have an incredible argument as to why my previous claims are false that will only make sense to others who have seen the movie as well.

5: Limitless

This movie is mostly on this list because of its concept; also because of its brilliant ad campaign, but mostly because of the concept. The idea behind it is based on the concept that the human brain harnesses only 10% of its maximum capability at a time. Eddie Morra is a writer with a bit of an unlucky streak until he comes across a drug that will unlock his brain. He becomes rich and famous quite quickly, but as he begins to run out of the drug, his mind reacts in unexpected ways. I really like the idea of a movie based on unlocking your brain where the main character doesn’t suddenly have superpowers, and the idea that he would have withdrawals from the dug is a stroke of genius. This movie is going to be a fun one, if done right (i.e. focusing on the main characters perception of the world throughout, and not on the results of his perception).

Honorable Mentions:

Thor

Harry Potter 7 (Part 2)

Captain America: The First Avenger

Paul

Paranormal Activity 3
