Theophilus London.

Theophilus

Music is constantly changing and progressing, following new rhythms and presenting new sounds. It is constantly advancing but normally it takes it’s time until it hits the ears of many listeners. Of course there are exceptions and many artists slip under the radar appearing on blogs etc. Theophilus London did just this.

Born in Brooklyn NY, Theophilus has been a producing artist since 2008. An undercover artist and sensation on many music blogs he is now starting to gain a lot more recognition with his new EP Lovers Holiday.

A unique rapper and MC, London’s music combines a wide range of sounds that come together to make something that’s completely different from the norm. Drawing sounds from electro, new wave and RnB amongst other genres his work brings forward catchy sounds that are easy to dance and sing along to.

So if you’re thinking that music is getting dull these days it’s not, you’re just not looking in the right places. So check out the blogosphere to see some new faces and some alternative beats.

BetatraXx the Alpha Dog

There is nothing inappropriate about Gotta Dance Dirty. Believe it or not, it’s the undisputed largest and most respected blog in the west coast electronic music scene. So to kick off their new management label, they had to find someone spectacular. They had to find one of the craftiest, most cutting edge new DJ’s around. In my mind, they nailed it by signing Tim Nelson, aka BetatraXx.

Formerly Redlight, BetatraXx is the epitome of modern electro-house. Raised on Pro Tools, he is one of the first young DJ’s that hasn’t needed to make an awkward transition from a live band or turntables. Everything you hear from him is raw, unadulterated electronic music.

For the past four years he attended college on the east coast, and needed a fake ID to DJ at some of New York’s biggest clubs. Originally from Santa Barbara, Nelson recently finished up his first west coast tour. Under the new California based GDD label, it shouldn’t be your last chance to see him in the Golden State.

In Gotta Dance Dirty’s recent exclusive interview, he had this to say:
“The West coast is unmatched. Love it out here. And you guys are the center of good music. What more could I want?”
Couldn’t agree more, sir.

Calvin Harris can See the Light

The man behind the sparkly sunglasses is a staple for any electro lover. You probably know Calvin Harris from his band’s 2007 debut, “I Created Disco.” Since then, this Scottish singer/songwriter/producer/DJ has done everything but rest on his laurels.

Harris’ live set has the distinction of universal respect from the highest echelons of electro DJs. The only other band that compares in that regard is the legendary Soulwax.
If his credentials fail to impress you, then this remix of The Hours’ See the Light should do the trick. Relax, these uniquely layered synth accents are world class. And if you’re a real stickler, his Passion Pit remix won’t disappoint.
