Curly Hair

As a kid, my hair was straight. I don’t know if it was naturally straight or if it was because my hair was always brushed out. But, since puberty, my hair has become unruly and curly.

No one tells you how hard it is to care for hair that no one else in your family has. When I was younger, my mom would spend a lot of time brushing and detangling my hair to put it into intricate hairstyles to tame it. I would hate having my hair done. It was always too tight and too stiff. But my hair was so long that it went past my waist.

Then, I started experimenting with my hair, I dyed it many colors and had it at many lengths. It was here when my hair started to curl and frizz. I didn’t know how to deal with curls or waves, so I would brush them out and hope for the best. But, slowly, I started to do research and experiment with things until I settled on a routine that works and gives me what I want. Finding the right products took forever! I would buy one thing and hope that it worked, and if it didn’t, I had to finish the product before I could buy something new.

If you go back through the yearbooks, you’ll find me and my brushed-out hair from freshman year. But you’ll also be able to see how much I’ve learned and grown. My hair and I as a person.

The Revolution of Hair Between Brothers

As everyone, most have known I have two brothers. I have one older brother and one younger brother. My older brother graduated last year and my younger brother just came to my high school this year. The students and the teachers in our school always got confused by our looks because we look so alike. Later, the hair revolution has started. We began to have our own dress style and hairstyle, but the changes in hairstyle are most obvious.

It all started when my older brother first trying out his new hairstyle which is the side parting. My parents weren’t used to it because his hair was too long, but they got used to it a couple of months later. By the way, I and my brothers’ hairstyle were all the same and it’s short, it looks like we had a bald head. Since then, I have tried out so many different hairstyles when I come to OVS. I had tried center parting, side parting and I also am the first person to perm my hair in our family! However, my younger brother soon changed his hairstyle to the center parting which means he asks me to also change my hairstyle. My younger brother always wants to be unique and stunning. For me, I just don’t want to look the same as my brothers. Therefore, I have found another hairstyle that where I belong is the Chonmage. At this time, we’ve found our hairstyle and we are satisfied with it.  On the whole, we still look alike, but the people around us can distinguish us from hairstyles.

Long Hair Don’t Care

Over night the “Man Bun” trend has exploded. Everywhere I look there is always a man who is “rocking” the new trendy bun. Personally I don’t see the point behind a man bun, why put it up when you could just cut it off? Are they looking for versatility in their style and want the option of wearing it up or down, or are they just being sloppy and are too lazy to cut it off?

There are many mixed opinions on the man bun. When I asked my dad what his opinion was, his response consisted of, ” What the hell is a man bun?” However, when I asked my boyfriend how he felt, he said, ” I definitely want to rock one of those sometime in my life.”

The new “Long Hair Don’t Care” trend has completely taken over. Men from all cultures and backgrounds are “wearing” the bun. It has become such a sensation that ABC News even did segment on new style called “Man Bun Hairstyle Trend is Taking over”. Many celebrities are now rocking this new look. However after watching the ABC News segment I learned that it was not just the hair style that made the “Man Bun” work, but the whole look, meaning facial hair and clothing. With all three of these key components everyday hipsters will become the Hollywood trendsetters. Many famous Celebs like, Orlando Bloom, Brad Pitt, David Beckham and many more,  have taken a liking to this new appearance. Many woman are also intrigued by this new look and prefer it to the basic short hair cut. I on the other hand, no matter how many times I see it or “learn” more about it, still consider it a fashion faux pas.
