Love never dies.

Nowadays, writers and directors are making an increasing number of love movies featuring strange species like monsters, vampires, wolves,or aliens. As people are getting tired watching the “old” monsters, a brand new love story between human and zombie came out, named “Warm Bodies.”

Last weekend, I watched it again with Vivian, and as I expected, I still loved it.

Breaking the traditional rule of “one must love another that is alive,” in the movie “Warm Bodies,” a human girl Julie (Teresa Palmer) falls in love with a dead boy, R (Nicolas Hoult).

The story began in an abandoned airport, all the people in there were dead for some reason and all of them had became zombies. Zombies do not have a living heart, they just creep around and eat whoever is alive around them. During a mission of taking medical supplies from the abandoned area, R and other zombies attacked Julie’s group. R ate Julie’s boyfriend’s brain, he then gained his memories. R fell in love with Julie. He then brought her back to his home and protected her from the other zombies.

Julie felt uncomfortable living with a zombie, and she tried to escape at first. But she always got into trouble. R saved Julie many times, and took care of Julie well. Finally Julie was moved and she fell in love with R.

Lore

One of my favorite movies of all times is Sarah’s Key, a story about a young girl’s journey during the Second World War. It’s an amazing story, and both the book and the movie are fantastic.

The other day, I watched a similar movie called Lore. It’s about a teenage girl who’s parents were Nazi’s. The movie follows her and her siblings after the war has ended as they make their way to their grandmothers house following their parents arrest.

Lore was interesting because it took a different approach to the topic. It’s a German film, it takes place in Germany, which post war is in shambles. The citizens are confused, not sure what to believe or think. And none more so than Lore and her siblings.

The movie is tough to watch, in more than one way. Lore must come to terms with accepting the help of someone she has always been taught to hate, and that brings along with it many challenges.

The people of Germany after the war are often not accommodating, or merely looking out for themselves. Throughout it all, Lore must remain true to herself. All while growing up much too fast for a girl her age, and learning of the responsibilities life holds.

Lore is an excellent movie, but I wouldn’t recommend it for the squeamish or traditional. It’s not exactly easy to wrap your head around, although it is very good.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

This post is somewhat, if not very, overdue, seeing as the movie Perks of Being a Wallflower came out quite a while ago. I did however feel that a post on the film was necessary, as I truly enjoyed it. It made me laugh, it made me smile, it made me cry, and everything in between. It is the perfect movie, and for many different reasons.

The first reason is that it is relatable. The writers don’t try and hide the unattractive parts of being in high school. In fact, they embrace it, making it so the characters don’t seem like movie stars, but rather like someone you would pass in the hallways.

Which brings us to the second reason: The cast. Emma Watson was amazing. She fit her role perfectly, even more so than her major part in the Harry Potter series as Hermione Granger. In my opinion at least. Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller were fantastic as well.

The third reason is perhaps my favorite, but it could also very easily be my least. The roles played by the cast, and portrayed so well, made me want to be there standing in the back of the pick-up truck, cruising through a tunnel and listening to quality music. Wallflower made me want to try listening to new music, find a group of friends who accept me and push me to have more confidence, as well as deal with my emotional shortcomings in a safe way.

Perks of Being a Wallflower is a great movie, not just for teens but for adults as well, to really provide an accurate representation of what high-schoolers deal with on a daily basis. I wouldn’t particularly recommend it for the younger child, but to each his own. I loved this movie, and was incredible glad to have watched it. I would definitely say it’s high on my list, if not at the top.

The most exciting thing I have done over this thanksgiving break was seeing my favorite movie – The Twilight Saga.

After I read the books, since the first one – The Twilight in 2008, I’ve been deeply obsessed by this mysterious and romantic story. Then I began to watch the movies. The movies, though, contain less details. But it still couldn’t stop my love towards it.

The films are directed by Bill Condon and based on the novel The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. The whole story contain four series – The Twilight; Eclipse; The New Moon and  The Breaking Dawn.

After 4 years of waiting, I finally had a chance to enjoy the second part of a two-part film forms the fifth and final installment in the series The Twilight Saga, and is the conclusion of the 2011 film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.

The actors and actress stayed the same. And the tone of the movie was filled with mystery and beauty as usual.

The movie theater was full of the Twilight fans like me. I sat in the seats silently because I don’t know how to explain or express the feelings when I was about to see the last one, the end.

Skyfall

This weekend, I went over to my friends house. Friday night we got our nails done, Saturday we went shopping. It was so much fun, and the perfect weekend. It felt amazing to get off campus, even if it was just for a little while.

But on Sunday, we spent hours trying to figure out what to do. We wanted to go to Ventura to see a movie, but there was no one to drive us.

So we ended up going to the Ojai Playhouse instead, to see the new James Bond movie, Skyfall.

Skyfall is different from the other James Bond in that the characted is flawed. Bond is not the super-hero agent, invincible and undeterable, but instead has a hinderance, which repeatedly gets in his way.

Instead of ruining the Bond character, this flaw instead made him more relatable and personable to the audience. Bond went from the unattainable “perfect” human being, to one of us with mad spy skills.

Another great aspect of the film was the bad guy, Silva. He plays an almost Joker-like character. He was also incredibly smart, and creepily evil. It would not surprise me to see him appear in a little kids nightmare.

The film focused more on the characters within, and creating personalities for them, instead of using an outside issue, which can be both good an bad.

For one, it makes the film a bit more believable. On the other hand, one may wonder if they are perhaps running out if ideas for the legendary 007.

One more aspect of the movie which I will point out are the opening credits. Normally when they appear on the scene I groan, and get antsy. Although I did do this at first, my attention was quickly captured by what was playing before me.

They used the setting so perfectly in the opening credits, and the transition went so smoothly from the first scene, that it seemed almost as if it were an extension of what had just taken place.

The pictures fade in and out, creating a sense of mystery, intrigue, and danger. The occasional provocative woman’s body reminds the viewer of thee famous, and possibly even infamous, Bond girl. The opening credits were remarkable.

All in all, Skyfall was a great movie, one that I highly recommend you watch.

Burma VJ

Burma VJ is a 2008 Danish Documentary. It tells the story of a group of reporters in Burma, which is a closed country, who film the 2007 protests and smuggle the footage out of the country. Their footage was used by CNN, BBC, and other news stations to tell the rest of the world of the proceedings in Burma.

The film is narrated by one of the reporters, who is forced to leave the country and work form Thailand after being caught with his camera out and interrogated by the police. Throughout the movie, he references the 1988 revolution.

In 1988 the people of Burma rose up and protested the government. As a result of the uprising, 3,000 people were killed. The country spent 19 years in fear, too afraid to speak up.

I’m one of those people.  I freak out when I have to walk 15 feet by myself in the house at night after I watch a scary movie.

Jo and The Dictator.

Today, my good friend Jo came from to visit from Boston!

Jo graduated last year and we rarely get to hangout! But today, Jo, another friend of mine, and I hit Main Street in Ventura to watch The Dictator.

Now let me tell you, this movie is the farthest thing from pc and has humor that can be offensive to some.

But I loved it. I love how bold Sacha Baron Cohen is with all of his movies. Despite having faced lawsuits for his previous movies, he still continues to do what he does best…make hilarious, vulgar movies.

And what’s even better was that I watched it with two of my closest friends.

Overall, tonight was a win.

BEST MOVIE.

21 Jump Street is quite possibly the best movie I’ve ever watched.

It is a remake of a television series featuring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. Let me tell you, the combination is incredible. The theme of the movie was reliving high school memories.

Jonah Hill, the once nerdy high school outcast was cool when he did high school over again as an undercover cop. It was the opposite for Channing Tatum. The once popular jock was now considered “uncool.”

This movie had me laughing almost the entire time. It was my kind of humor. Stupid and spontaneous.

The hunger games

Tonight I went to go see the Hunger Games movie.  I went with my girlfriend and her family and I was the only one that had read the book.

I have to say I am a little surprised about the criticism surrounding the movie.  I personally though it was spectacular and incredibly intense.

One criticism is that it shies away from some of the things that happen in the book.  I must disagree, the story is about 24 kids between 12 and 18 fighting to the death for a corrupt societies sport.  It’s hard to dumb that down. Obviously they do not show gory images of dead teenagers which is a good thing.  It shows enough and hits it right on the money about connecting with the audience.

There definitely was times when I myself was wondering what it would be like to be in her position or just to be in the games themselves.

Overall great film, and a must see.
