End of the year work

Most people would think that as the school winds down, so would the work load.

Umm, that is a negative.

Quite the opposite has happened to me.

I feel like right now is the most work I have had in a while.

It could be that I am suffer from pre senioritis, which is an issue because I’m a junior….

Well whatever.

Message to teachers.

Stop it!

I want to be relaxing and studying for finals, not doing projects and writing essays, that was what most of the year was for, now please let me relax and ride out the rest of the year.

I would like to imagine my last weeks of junior year with myself on a tropical beach, soaking up sun, drinking something with a tiny umbrella in it, and watching cute girls in bikinis walk by.

Not sitting in a classroom, doing busy work so that we feel like we’ve accomplished more, when really we’re doing the same old stuff.

If I didn’t care about my grades so much and how that effected my future I would go on strike.

And also what is this going to school on Memorial Day.

I feel that it is un American and as an American I should have the opportunity to opt out of school on this day sans consequence, but whatever.

I will be in class bright in early while others are at the beach or BBQing enjoying the day.

The Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort: Kailua-Kona

Some people go to Hawaii to tan, relax, and drink piña coladas on the beach. Not my family.  We probably spend equal amounts of time in and out of the water.  Hawaii itself is very important to us.  My parents lived in Haena on Kauai before they adopted me.  The first vacation I remember in Kauai.  My twins sisters learned to swim in Kona and I got my dive certification there, July 2007.

Years ago my mom found this beautiful little hotel  and she and my dad went snorkeling there.  She remembered it and booked us a room at  Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort in Kailua-Kona, October of 2003. It’s this GORGEOUS, amazing hotel right on Keauhou Bay.  There is a small snorkeling beach, as well as a little set of stairs that lead directly into the water.  The hotel includes deluxe ocean-view rooms, excellent free daily breakfast for guests, and an incredible seaside restaurant with the most spectacular view of the sunset in all of Hawaii.

Costa Rica

One thing everyone in my family can agree on is that we love the tropics.  However, I’m pretty sure that I love them more than everyone else.  Whenever someone suggests something like, “Our next trip should be to Italy” or “Let’s go see the Louvre,” or even, “I think Spain sounds fun,”  I say, “Nah…I’d rather go swimming.”  Clear warm waters and tropical plants are unmatched by anything society has to offer.

We took a trip to Costa Rica in 2005.  Our flight was altered due to fog covering the runway in San José, so we headed south to Panama City.  The airline booked us into the Continental Hotel at around 11:30 p.m.  It was a smoking hotel and I found myself hacking every few minutes.

The next day we flew back into San José and took a private bus to the coastal town of Manuel Antonio.  Our bus driver, Jerry, was very tolerant of the 5 noisy kids in his vehicle and even let us eat lychee fruits in the back seats.  As I recall, we sang at a deafening volume for close to 5 hours.

The house we stayed in was in the jungle, but just a short 4 minute walk to the beach.  When I stepped outside it was foggy and cool but the sky was beautiful, serene.
