He stands on his tip toes, his camera far above his head, trying to see form a view that isn’t his own.

He mounts a jack to his own car before attaching his camera and speeding down the winding roads of a mountain.
I’ll edit out the jack later, he thinks to himself while twisting through the turns.

He smiles at me as I take a picture of him, a wild horse right out of frame, laughing.
“These things are the spawn of satan,” he says to me.

He waits on the ridge of a mountain, keeping his camera in front of him and his eyes searching.
My shutter speed has to be perfect, he thinks.

Ben Ellett may be a lot of things, and he may do a lot of things, but his photography stands out to me at something he is best at. For years he had a printed quote taped over his bed that read:

“Do not confuse pictures of spectacular things with spectacular pictures of things.”

Yes, he has many hobbies, like flying sailplanes, motorbiking, racing cars, rock climbing, fixing cars, and the list continues. But Ben Ellett is the best photographer I’ve ever seen in action (although I might be a tad bias; after all, he’s my brother). I never want him to stop his photography, because his photos can make people think.

I love you, Ben, please never stop.
