Quentin Tarentino’s Underrated Gem – Death Proof

Quentin Tarantino is known for a plethora of films, most famously Kill Bill and Reservoir Dogs. But that’s not to say those are his only good films.

Over break, I was yearning for a movie. A Tarentino movie, to be exact. That’s when I look at my ‘To Watch’ list in my notes app, and I see the movie Death Proof.

I look up what the movie is about. “A stuntman who kills women with a modified car labeled as ‘Death Proof'”. That… doesn’t seem interesting. Well, not to me at least, since I’m not into cars that much.

Well, to my surprise, I really liked this movie. The music, the visuals, the makeup, the comedy, and the actors. Despite being considered a “flop” to Tarentino, this movie is held very close to my heart.

I recommend it to people who are into cars. I didn’t understand half the things that the actors were talking about when they were talking about cars. Whoops.

Instagram reels

My mother has an unhealthy obsession with overloading me with at least 10 Instagram reels a day. Usually, they’re all about topics I don’t understand or have no interest in. I only respond with hearting the message, so I would think she got the memo that I don’t watch most of them, but she keeps sending more and more every day. I honestly think reels are the best sometimes, but my mother and I are not on the same wavelength of humor. Sometimes after a bad day, Im exited to see what strange reels she’s sending me, but I think my expectations are higher than what she sends. I’ll even send her a reel now and then, but she doesn’t reply; she probably thinks of my feed the same way I think of hers.

She also likes to make group chats with my friends and send us what she thinks would apply to us. I love her effort of trying to bond with us through Instagram reels, even though our humor doesn’t always match, we still find it funny. My mother’s reels are a different universe. Once she discovered them, she never turned back. She loves adding in little inspirational quotes and speeches. I don’t know how her algorithm turned into her being a motivational speaker, a chef, and an expert on how teenagers act. Her reels are all slightly painful to watch, but I still watch every single one.

If I Was A Nepobaby

What Is a Nepotism Baby, Anyway? How a 'Nepo Baby' Is Born

Credit: Google

I wish I were a nepo baby. If I were a nepo baby, life would be a lot easier. As I’ve been going through the college application process, my hopes of going places have been diminishing. The places I once was interested in attending suddenly leave a bitter taste in my mouth and an even worse hole in my finances (aka my mom’s).

I wouldn’t have to constantly think about how much debt I’m willing to go into for a piece of paper. Instead, I would be somewhere enjoying life and not causing myself stress acne.

If I were a nepo baby, would be traveling the world and trying to start a business that might fail. Maybe get cancelled for something trivial. I would definitely be one of the more tame nepo babies.

I’m not saying all nepo babies are spoilt, no-purpose, no-talent individuals, just some. Trace Ellis Ross, now that’s a nepo baby I would be inspired by. To be honest, I didn’t even know she was the daughter of Diana Ross, like what? Even though her mother is Diana Ross, she’s not constantly letting everybody know about it or using it to her advantage. I look up to her; she’s also just really funny.

Stressful Two Weeks

Imagine this.. you’re having a wonderful day. The flowers are swaying in the light gusts of wind, the sun is shining, and there’s no cloud in the sky, and it seems like a good day! That’s until this guy comes up, a very nice-looking man, and proceeds to take a wood plank out and hit you on the head a few times, Looney Tunes style.

Well, not actually. Yet, it seems like the guy was nice, but he ended up hurting you. That guy resembles the two weeks before break. Sure, you were a bit uneasy about this guy walking up to you, but you didn’t know he was gonna hit you several times.

There is one week left before the break. Last week? Last week sucked until the weekend. Along with this week, or what the future holds. 2 tests in your hardest classes on Thursday, and 3 easy on Friday.

I’d call that a double whammy, but considering last week had a lot of tests, too… jeez, it’s only gonna get better till break.

Still, these few days might be the longest of my life. It’s okay, my bed awaits me each time I get home. And all next week.

Mistakes

For my senior project, I built an acoustic guitar. I spent almost 30 hours on this project, and finally finished over the weekend. My finished slideshow presentation captures my dedication and the overall process. The only thing it doesn’t capture, though, is the mistakes I made along the way. The stories about my mistakes didn’t make the slideshow because it was already pushing the time limit without them. I still think it’s important to recognize what went wrong and what I learned from it, so I’ll do that in this blog. A huge mistake I made was placing the fretboard up much too high, leaving no space for the nut to be glued on. I had to use an iron to reheat the wood glue and peel off the misapplied fretboard, which completely damaged it. I then had to buy another fretboard and redo the gluing process. Fixing this mistake cost me many hours, and it was horribly mundane. Despite how annoying the process was, it taught me that it’s important to consider future steps, even if you don’t think your current step will affect them. It’s also important to make sure your measurements are perfectly accurate, and taking a few extra minutes to perfect your lines beats spending four hours fixing an avoidable mistake.

2nd semester

I would always get told that the second semester of sophomore year is way harder than the first semester, but I wouldn’t listen. I thought that there would be no change and that I could get through it. I should’ve listened because I’m just now realizing that it’s harder in all aspects. The quizzes are more difficult and much more often than last semester. Theres not many assignments, but they’ve gotten more complex since winter break. I catch myself forgetting about quizzes, and when I do remember to study, I have barely any motivation to. Compared to last semester, units have flown by with nonstop action, with no time to breathe in between. At the end of the day, I complete all my assignments on time and usually end up studying for exams. I was in a flow state last semester because I had finally gotten the hang of it, but now I feel like I’ve been set back. I’m not trying to complain about how the work is too hard, and I can’t catch a break, but it’s a fact that this semester is definitely a change I wasn’t fully ready for. Somehow, certain aspects of my life keep slipping from my mind, even when I have so much time to think back. Hopefully, I can get back into my flow state and redeem myself, but I’m warning any upcoming sophomores to be aware of the shift.

Drivers ED… Yeesh

Just yesterday, I decided to start drivers ED. The reason why is that every day after school, instead of waiting for the bus to come at 5:20 after school to get home at 6:00 (🫩), my friend Zooey would drop me off at the lower campus. Feeling bad, I brought it up with my parents to start drivers ED.

Of course, I have to jump through hoops just to convince them. “You can only stay in the Ojai area and Oak View!” No Ventura..? Where everything is?

Sparing arguing, I sucked it up and listened to what my boundaries are and how I can’t drive Creek Road (That’s.. one of the roads you need to go on to get to my house..), and my dad let me buy Coastline Drivers ED.

Well, better learn to drive now before I go off to college (hopefully out of state) because who’s gonna entertain my brother during breaks when I come back? He won’t be of driving age. It’s okay, I’ll drive him to the places that my parents won’t drive to.

Why Are We Here?

Mankind is generally considered to be the most intelligent species on Earth due to our unmatched cognitive abilities and capacity for technological advancement. No other creature comes close to our cumulative knowledge and global impact. And yet, it despite our intellect, we are the only species that doesn’t belong in the natural order of the world.

Most aspects of the natural world, whether it be plants, animals, or habitats, serve a distinct purpose and vital purpose. While there is death through competition and predation, it is all in conformity to the circle of life. While some resources are finite, these creatures could effectively sustain themselves by only taking what is absolutely necessary for survival. However, humanity is the one exception to the circle of life. No other creatures take more than what they need. No other creatures exist to serve only themselves. No other creatures are capable of making immoral or unjust actions.
