One of the things I miss most about New York is that we have four seasons, but most of all, I miss real fall. I miss the cold, crisp air whipping through my hair, the vibrant and colorful trees and leaves, and the falling acorns and pinecones. I especially miss being with my grandma during the fall. Every year before I came to OVS, we would walk through my neighborhood and collect all kinds of beautiful leaves, pinecones, and acorns to take home and use them to create some fall decor in our house. I remember my first year at OVS, I would call my grandma so much complaining about how much I miss real fall that she sent me leaves she collected around the neighborhood, pressed them, and then dipped them in wax to make sure they didn’t die. I still have the box with those leaves to this day, and in the box I have added other objects that are valuable to me. I cherish this box more than anything I own; it is now filled with memories of those I love and meaningful things they have given me. I miss fall not only for the leaves and the crisp winds but for the memories I have with my grandma and the time we would spend together.
