Halloween

In order to welcome Halloween, the OVS student council decided to hold a Halloween haunting tour. We spent few hundred dollars buying costumes and props. However, we didn’t charge the students ay money to take the tour.

The tour began at the courtyard at Friday night, where a mad pianist was playing horrifying music while several zombies were eating dead bodies waiting for new victims to come. After facing the terrifying zombies, a werewolf and the guy from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre were waiting to scare on their way down to the amphitheater.

At the amphitheater, two crazy scientists had just lost control of a ferocious Frankenstein. After escaping from Frankenstein, the survivors stepped into the pool area, which was Death’s territory. The Death and a haunting ghost are trying to take the survivors lives away.

The whole scary adventure was a welcome surprise for the entire school and provide a scary for Halloween.

Spending all my parents weekends catching up the reading assignment in English 12, I found out that I am addicted to this great book, Prep. Prep, written by Curtis Sittenfeld, is one of the New York Times bestseller. The book is about a fourteen-year-old girl who leaves her family to attend boarding school. The author’s fantastic writing skill has perfectly portrait the character’s complicated relationship with teachers and her girl friends. Although I am a guy, I felt that I have really similar situation with the character. Moreover, many of the school events are as same as /o/v/s events, such as switch day and the Assassin game. While reading this book, I felt really related to my real life in OVS. So I highly recommend OVS student should read this book.

Practicing every seventh period, members of chorus want to show their best performance to OVS parents on parents weekend.

This year we are going to present three songs, the City Called Heaven, Cross the Wide Missouri, and the Motown Medley. By performing three different types of songs, we want to give the audience the feelings of sorrow, sentiment, and vitality.

I joined the OVS last year, and I have participated as a singer and a drummer. This time I only need to play drums for three of the Motown songs and sing the rest of the songs. However, I found out that it is very difficult for me to play drums in the transitions. Because these three songs have very different pace, I made a lot of mistakes during the practices. I have not played correctly one time during all our practices.

However, I kept listening and listening to the song, and practice the transitions in my room everyday. Luckily, in the two performances on Friday, I didn’t make any mistakes. I felt that the effort that I have put in is worth it.

During the past week, many OVS students received a friend request from Beverley Knowels on Facebook. Some of the students added her as a friend, but some of them have questioned who she is, and they rejected her request.

Beverley Knowels stated that she is an alumni of OVS. However, some students have realized that there is no such a person in OVS history. In the boys dorm, we even had a dorm meeting about this issue. The faculty and student leaders  told students not to add her as a friend.

Some people think that the definition of “friends”  has changed a little bit since Facebook has become popular. People accept people they don’t really know. They accept their friend requests just because they both have mutual friends or they just want to have more friends on Facebook.

It is very dangerous to add someone who we don’t know on Facebook, because other people will know all our information. This is now a very serious problem for everyone who uses Facebook.

I haven’t showered in a week, because I now realize how important the water is.

In order to understand the water resource in California, our AP Environmental Science class took a camping trip to Owens Lake and Mono Lake. People in Los Angeles mostly get their water from these two lakes. In order to use the water, the government created diversions in Owens River and other rivers that flow into the lakes. The diversions control how much water will flow into the lakes and how much water will flow to LA region. As the population in LA grow rapidly, the need of the water increase. As the result of this situation, less and less water will flow into the lakes.

exciting moments

On October 2, I have played my best football game ever. I played offense, defense, and kick return receiver.

While playing cornerback, I made some decent tackles. Tackling is always my weakest skill, but as I practice hard and gain more experience during games, I feel that I have improved my tackling skill. I have overcome my fear of hitting people, so now I just need to make sure that I am able to tackle them down when I first hit them.

Student Council Movie

On September 18, most of the student leaders and students went to the upper field to film the Student Council movie. The movie is patterned after Avatar The Last Air Bender. We gladly invited our alumnus, Cooper Hefner to help film the battle scene. That scene took three hours to finish it. Cooper is going to put many special effects on the scene to make the sword fighting and bender’s special ability more exciting. We have finished the most difficult part of the movie, so now we just need to film some short conversation clips. We are going to finish this movie as soon as possible, and to show it to everyone soon.

OVS’ First Football Game

On September 17, we had our first varsity football game against Trinity Classical Academy. The game was broadcast on the website, so I told my parents and friends in Taiwan to watch. Also, many of our fans came to support us. They really encouraged us to play hard and finish strong. Unfortunately, we didn’t come out with a victory. However, it was a really good experience and a great game. This is the first time that I have played football at night and on artificial turf. Unlike the normal field, artificial turf is flat and soft, and easier to run on. During this game I played both starting tight end and corner back. At the beginning of the game, I made my first tackle of the season!
