Bring on the Iron

As a little kid and still I guess, I have always loved superheroes.  My favorite ones have always been marvel characters (minus the Green Lantern).

In my opinion the greatest Marvel characters are obviously the Avengers.  Who the true core team is always in flux as well as who is indeed their leader, their affiliation with S.H.I.E.L.D, which stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

The core Avengers though are: Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Ant/Giant Man, and The Wasp.

Personally I think it is all about Iron Man.  Tony Stark is a normal human, with no powers of his own except for what he can create. Allow though he is a genius, he lacks the physical supernatural powers of the others.

Although he is not as strong as the Hulk, courageous as Capt. America, or commands the power of Asgard as Thor does, he is still perhaps the most capable warrior of all.  His ability to adapt to any circumstance is what allows Iron Man to always come out on top.

Truly the Man in Steel or rather some other incredibly rare and unknown metal has the brains, power and ingenuity to be the greatest Avenger.

If I Were Brave

If I were brave,
I would straddle the tallest cliff-side,
Waver from low to high pride,
And fall just for the view.

If I were brave,
I would light myself on fire,
Let the flames crawl higher and higher,
Until the heat felt like you.

And if I were a lion
Not a mouse, instead,
I would survive every evening
And not cower in my head.

If I kept my eyes open,
With no fumble or flinch,
I would see every moment
Of I life that I miss.

If I were brave…
If I were brave…
If I were brave…
But I’m not.

So I will cower!
And cringe!
And flee from every shadow!

I will cry out!
And miss
The life that others borrow.

Because I am not brave.
I hide from every cliff.
But what if I were brave?
What if, what if, what if.

Trucks Take Over

As I was driving today in the predictable evening LA traffic, I realized just how many different types of cars there are on the road. In my family alone, we have a truck, two sedans, and two vans, all by different companies. All of this thinking brought a question to my mind:

What is the most popular car in America?

I tried to answer it myself as I was driving by counting a few different types and thinking about what types of cars that people I know own. I finally concluded that it was the Toyota Prius. They are hybrids, so they tend to be very fuel efficient and are a great smallish size, and I see so many of them on the road I didn’t even second guess myself.

But, after looking up the most popular car in America, it was quite a surprise to me to discover that the Ford F150 takes the title.

I mean, in my opinion, they are beautiful. I LOVE trucks. But, when purchasing my own car, I realized that they are not very sensible (especially for a teenager) and that they are not really necessary unless a person is hauling around things or towing trailers, like some businesses do.

It’s crazy to think that a huge gas-guzzling truck would be the most popular, especially with gas prices being so high. I have seen a lot of them on the road, but it still came as a big surprise to me.

Maybe it was just my wishful thinking that people would choose more fuel-efficient cars in order to start caring for the environment!

Goodbye, Volleyball

Have you ever had a day in your life that you wish you could do over?

Today was one of these days. Nothing tragic happened, thankfully, nothing life-changing either. But, today was my very last high school volleyball game; my last loss in a high school volleyball game, to be exact.

We lost, and although I wish we had won, that’s not the biggest disappointment.

I just really wish the varsity team had something to show for all of our effort.

We were not the team I know that we could have been. If I could have changed something, it would have been our attitudes, our willingness to try even though we know we might fail.

I will not deny, though, that this season has had its great moments. We have all grown as individuals on and off the court and we have grown together as a team. Even against the toughest public high school varsity teams, we kept fighting until the end. We might have had a losing season, but it was still an amazing one.

There are no words to describe how much I will miss playing volleyball and what an amazing time I have had with the other 7 girls this season. I am so proud of us 🙂

Red Neck Sunday Activities

Redneck culture has become fascinating over the years.
Redneck
Rednecks over the years have evolved and adapted in these new technological times and have made advances as a culture. They sometimes take the weird and converted to something weirder. It’s an ability that makes their culture so unique and wonderfully funny to watch. seems now they can turn anything into F.U.N time.

0:52 Looked like it Hurt.

I personally love watching these interesting fellas in their native environment.

Stars.

stars

The stars at night shine so bright,

Yet none of them shine for me.

I looked afar upon a star,

But the light I could not see.

A clear, starry night is one of the beauties of the world that can be viewed from anywhere across the globe. The stars that spread like a sea of sprinkles in the abyss of the night sky, wrap the world in their protecting light and magnificence. Each star an individual glowing ball of light comes together to form a constellation, a piece of art. Alike connect the dots the eye can create images and art from this spread of random dots.

The stars at night shine so bright,

and they are so beautiful to see.

The Hunger Games

Last week my younger brother gave me the book, The Hunger Games.  Being me I figured it would be stupid and a waste of my time, but after about two pages, I was pretty hooked.

The tale follows the teenage girl Katniss, from District 12 who sacrifices herself to save her younger sister, Prim.

Forced to participate in the Hunger Games, a gladiatorial fight to the death, Katniss is almost overwhelmed.  But with the help of the people around her she pulls through.

For anyone who wants to read about a crackshot heroine, then the Hunger Games is the book for you.

Boston Bound!

Around me, the chatter of many different people diverged into one dynamic buzz. Cash registers ring, papers being printed, suitcases being dragged. Noise engulfs me as I sit in a grey pleather chair in the Charlotte Douglas Airport.

I sit here, a venti Starbucks black iced tea (with two Sweet’N Lows and easy ice) and a packet of organic dried mangoes, and I can already tell the difference in the environment.

Although this is just an airport, I can feel the change in the vibe. I am on the East Coast. I am not in California. I can tell in the way people walk, talk, and gesticulate that the city I am in is absolutely different.

I guess I my awareness of all of these differences is especially heightened because this is my first voyage to Boston. As high school senior, I am applying to numerous colleges, many of which are situated in the East Coast. I am scared, nervous, excited, and curious of how different life in Boston will be.

What will the food be like? Will I stand out, strike people as different just as I do them?Who knows?

I’ll let you know how I like it soon:)

Ain’t no love in the heart of the city

Ya, it’s a title to a song. But, over the past few nights, this song has spoken to me. I have acquired a newfound respect for older music. Bobby Bland has reached out to me through the musical realm and has pulled me into the world of his genre of blues music. It’s beautiful and reminds me of where I’m from.

To silence a number of people who have asked, no I was not born in Philadelphia. However, I have been to the city numerous times and my family is from the area. I feel a certain connection to the city and its inhabitants. “Ain’t no love in the heart of the city” reminds me of that city.

See for yourself in this clip.

What is a team?

As I stood in silence, holding the ball waiting for the whistle to be blown so I could serve the ball, I had a thought. Or , I guess you could say I had a question.

What is a team?

The dictionary definition of “team” is: A group of players forming one side in a competitive game or sport.

Of course, I already knew that; but being on a team is much more than just being a group. My idea of a team is being unified, supporting each other, and trying your hardest for the benefit of those around you.

That is what I think of when I think of being a team.

A team captain‘s job – my job – is to make sure than each player is doing just that; making an effort to be unified, support others, and try their hardest.

When these things do not happen, I have no option but to accept the reality, move on, and try to do a better job next time so we act as a real team.

Even though we had a few setbacks within the team aspect of things, I’ve never been more proud to be with that group of girls out there on the court at Orcutt Middle School‘s gymnasium, battling the Orcutt High School Spartans.

Although they had much higher skill levels than us, each true team member put their heart into the game and it was the best we have every played as a team.

Even though we were not victorious, the varsity volleyball girls really learned how to be a team that day, which is all I could have asked for.
