Being Thankful

One year ago I was in Israel, two years ago I was at Midland.  Two years seem like a long time, but I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing.

Last year living in Israel my Thanksgiving meal consisted of yogurt, bread, cheese, water and an orange.  I was in Gadna, a mock IDF basic training program to test and place potential soldiers.  I did not even know it was Thanksgiving until later that night when one of my friends, who had spoken with his parents had told me.  There was still no other place in the world that I would have wanted to be.

Two years ago I was at Midland.  At Midland for Thanksgiving you don’t get to go home. Instead you family comes to you and a huge Thanksgiving afternoon and meal takes place with about twenty turkeys and over two hundred people.

This year I will be home, with my family and the people I love and will be eating TOfurkey.  In just two years things have changed so much and each year I find myself exactly where I want to be.  On Thanksgiving, that is what I am really thankful for.

A Furry Surprise

10:28 AM: Monday, November 7, 2011.

A text message from my mother:

“There is a big surprise waiting 4 u. Hint: it’s furry, so sweet, and endearing…Can you get what it is?”

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m going home this weekend with my friends Anni and Sungjin. My mother had left me a long text message explaining food options and furniture and this BIG SURPRISE!

I really hope it is either a cat or a dog! I CANNOT WAIT!

If I had to choose which dog or cat I will be greeted with this weekend, it would be:

1) Scottish Fold Cat

My favorite pet by far was a Scottish Fold by the name of Butter. These cats have the sweetest disposition and a lovable face. Their eyes are very big and their ears are usually folded.

2) Chihuahua

My favorite dog was a 6 pound Chihuahua by the name of Tinkerbell. Chihuahuas, contrary to popular belief, are very intelligent creatures. Tinkerbell never barked too much either and was very very loyal.

3) Teacup Poodle

To be honest, I just want one of these because they are SO CUTE. I mean, LOOK AT IT. Ah my goodness! It makes me so nauseous because of how cute it is!

4) Bengal

I really want this cat because it is SO beautiful! It looks just like a miniature leopard! Goodness, I want it!

I hope I am not getting too caught up with this idea of having the pet be a cat or a dog because knowing my mom, she could have gotten me a nice knit scarf or a hamster.

But keeping my fingers crossed for a SCOTTISH!

Red Neck Sunday Activities

Redneck culture has become fascinating over the years.
Redneck
Rednecks over the years have evolved and adapted in these new technological times and have made advances as a culture. They sometimes take the weird and converted to something weirder. It’s an ability that makes their culture so unique and wonderfully funny to watch. seems now they can turn anything into F.U.N time.

I personally love watching these interesting fellas in their native environment.

Sometimes there’s only so much you can do when the world is crumbling at your feet. Despite the pain, fear and distress you have to fight through no matter what. Those down days we experience are for a reason, feel them, feel the loneliness, feel the hurt, but at some point you have to come out the other end, not feeling sorry for yourself.

Since my sister left I have felt down and weary. I missed England, I missed my life, I missed everything. As I began to climb into the deep slumber of regret and sadness I forgot about everything else. Not wanting to be where I was, everyday became a greater chore. My life in California became a chore.

So as everything slipped away I thought it was about time to suck it up and not give up the fight. Driving home from school, my windows wound down, my music blaring, the sky serenely blue, the mountains picturesque on the horizon and an eagle circling overhead, I couldn’t help but to love life.

Sometimes letting go is hard but you often have to realize the good things you have in the present to gradually push away the past.

The Art of Having Fun

Today I went on a school weekend trip to Los Angeles California to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and it was fantastic. Obviously it didn’t look like the picture above, but man do I love that picture!

I had such a great time walking around and looking at all the different stars on the floor and who they represented. While I was walking and looking at these stars I was also thinking to my self how some of the people represented were chosen.

But I think that my favorite part of this day was the Madame Tussauds wax museum. The sculptures are absolutely unbelievable. They were detailed to perfection. Even the eyes looked real.

To finish my day I went and had a GREAT lunch at California Pizza Kitchen, where I had the best four cheese ravioli I have ever had.

God I love my life!

What did you do this weekend?

Bonds

Ever left home, for a long period of time, worrying if your pet will forget you?

When a dog that truly loves his master, will always greet him/her every day at the door, like it’s the first time they have seen you in over a year. Even though you just went outside for 5 minutes to go pick up some milk. It is fascinating how much a dog will care for you, love you, and miss you. But for how long?

Well I recently had to leave my dog under new temporary ownership. I may not see him again for a very long time and I was worried that, he would eventually forget me and move on. This was all until I stumbled on to this video

Like a comment said “I had to punch the wall to get my masculinity back!”

Well after seen that, my troubles lifted and flew away.

Great to see that your animal friend can be a companion for a life time.

The Invention of Caring.

love

As I stood watching my sister and mother embrace for the last time, I couldn’t help but feel touched. Tears streamed down their faces and they hung to each other in an attempt to cherish their last moments together.

Just like that first day when she kicked and screamed to go to play group, her first day at school, and her first fulltime job, my sister was again crying unwilling to leave our mothers side. Except this time the 11 hour flight left them separated by distance.

A phone call can mean so much but when you know someone’s so far away your heart yearns for that person to be next to you, filling the gaping hole that waits in their place.

A mother is not just someone you went to school with, or someone who you met on train, or even just a relative. She is someone who you grew inside and was nurtured by. She is the person that taught you to walk, took you to school, made you pack lunches. She is the person that loves you unconditionally no matter what.

Those days that I hear my sister cry because she misses our mums cooking or even just misses her company is heart wrenching. Tears down a phone line hurt and cut both my mum and sister to pieces, but tears face-to-face damage them so much deeper.

Watching my sister and mother embrace for the last time, I couldn’t help but to care.

Spudfest!

Face painting, tie-dying, rubber chicken tossing, water balloon tossing, dunk tank, laser tag – you name it, Spudfest’s got it.

This Friday was the best day of the school year so far, and will most likely be one of the best overall.

I got up at 7 and went to breakfast as usual, came back, put on my team comp shirt, and went to blow up orange and black balloons in the spirit of Halloween, then doodle with some chalk in the black hole with my best friends 🙂

And then we went to play team comp where my team, the Mosquitoes, DOMINATED!
Especially in the chicken launch where I was the launcher.
Teaming up with the 8th graders was surprisingly fun, too. It was good to have them up here and show them a good time.

So many good things happened that day, including dunking one of my best friends in the dunk tank on the first try, making friendship bracelets, tie-dying some awesome designs onto my t-shirts, and painting faces.

This day really reminded me of how lucky I am to be here, and how great it can be.
And it also reminded me how great my friends are.
I love all of you. Spudfest is fun and all, but it wouldn’t be fun if each and every one of my friends was there. I am so thankful for that.

Times past

Yesterday I had the chance to go back to a place that had a significant impact on my life, Midland School.

It is lovely to go back there because nothing really ever changes except the faces, but even then we all have something in common because of our shared connection to Midland.

One part that makes it the place that it is, is the communal showers. Yeah it sounds gross and not that great, but after a long day, sharing laughs with all your friends in the shower room is really the best thing there is.

When I went back, after my Football game I showered in the Junior bathroom with all my friends, it felt like nothing had changed.  I do miss Midland and the great innocent fun we had, but I am glad to have moved on and to be able to come back and remember those memories.

Nutella Vs. Peanut butter

nutella vs PB

I like peanut butter but I LOVE Nutella. I’ve always been a fan of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches; they are good and you can never go wrong with a PB&J. Unless you’re allergic to peanuts, yikes. But see, Nutella is delicious, sure there is some things much like peanut butter that could be harmful to some but it’s just so good that even those who don’t like it actually really do.

Its taste is AMAZING, and there is so many tasty ways to eat it.

Nutella with bread, Nutella crepes, Nutella croissants, Nutella with strawberries, Nutella with bananas and MANY MORE!!!!

I really want to know what everyone’s thoughts are on this subject, even if you feel it’s a stupid one

I think Nutella wins, what do you think?
