Work

I have a love-hate relationship with my work. I love making money. But I absolutely hate dealing with customers. For example it was a busy Friday afternoon, I was doing my regular work routine. All of a sudden a old customer calls me over. Mid bite of her arugula salad she starts explaining how terrible the chicken is. She starts telling me its disgusting and dry. I apologize but she continues complaining. I Leave to get her a new side of chicken. I bring the new chicken to her and she makes me wait so that she can try it to see if it’s up to her standard. She tells me it’s terrible dry and not edible. I apologize again and explain we roast our chicken early in the morning and warm it up to be served so it must be a dry chicken or something. All of a sudden she screams at me and explains how terrible of a waitress I am and instead of explaining why its dry I should go give the kitchen the feedback. I assure her that I will and we will fix the problems. Apparently that’s not good enough so she continues to tell me how her family used to be in the restaurant buisness and so she knows everything. She tells me she’s never coming back. When I walked away me and my favorite coworker talked about how we would rather have customers never come back or just dont come in the first place rather than yell at us. My paycheck doesn’t get affected if we have one less customer comes it doesnt even change if 10 customers dont come back. I am sick of working.

Fall

Fall weather comes at just the right time. The heat of summer begins to dwindle as the bitter and crisp air approaches. The colder mornings are always a giveaway that fall is near. There is no better feeling than putting on a hoodie in the fall.

The changing colors of the leaves and the darkening skies bring a cozy and homey feeling to life.

Rain and cloudy weather are a welcome respite after spending 3 months in the summer heat. Having the time to now relax and enjoy a night in is fall’s refreshment.

I have always enjoyed all things fall brings. My birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and other exciting seasonal activities all take place during this time of year. Some of my favorite childhood memories are from the fall, like visiting the pumpkin patches or watching fall movies with my friends and family.

Fall is an embrace that is often short-lived, overshadowed by the excitement of the holidays and all they bring.

Investing in Happiness

It is often stated that we should capitalize on our childhood and adolescent days, cherishing our time young before the responsibilities of adulthood. But while the future is always uncertain, it is also strongly emphasized that our choices, habits, and achievements during our growth, particularly during high school, heavily dictate the course of our careers and future well-being.

It feels as though the happiest people among my generation are those who care less and thus worry less. They bury themselves in constant temporary pleasures to shield themselves from unwanted responsibility and discomfort.

These people tell me I worry too much.

Then, there are people who put every waking moment to good use. They bury themselves in constant work, sacrificing momentary pleasure in favor of ensuring that their future is abundant in possibilities and is as stable as it can be.

These people tell me I’m not worried enough.

Nothing is in black and white. I can’t tell if I’m wasting my time or not making the most of my youth. I am left in a state of paralysis, unsure whether to be happier now or to invest in future happiness.

School

I know the schedule is supposed to be random, but it is not. I have all of my hard classes on day twos and my day ones are so easy. My day twos are: AP Stats, AP Lit, AP Psych, and yearbook. I love yearbook, but it is so hard having to edit all of the pictures that go in the yearbook and having to make like twenty million pages at the same time. It is essentially another class with a bit more homework, but without any tests or studying. My other classes during day two are very reading-based and have to be studied intensely. It is even harder because volleyball has at least two games every week, so I have less time to do my homework, and I’m super tired from traveling all day, making it difficult to even think about homework. I have a severe disdain for day two.

Day One, on the other hand, is the most blessed ever. My classes are Gov, Journalism, AP Computer Science Principles, and Free block! I love gov, I wish I had gov every day because it is so fun, and it is what I want to pursue in the future. I also love the teacher, and she is always willing to discuss current events with me after class. Journalism is so chill, and the class is so good. AP Comp Sci Principles is so funny. I sit with my friends and we spend all of class laughing. I think the teacher thinks we are crazy. Finally free block, I sleep, do homework, and eat snacks. It is a nice break from dealing with people and allows me to relax before going back to school. The contrast between the two days cannot be any more different; one day I look forward to, the other makes me so sad and stressed.

Graduating

When the day comes for me finally to receive my diploma, I won’t know if my life is ending, or just beginning.

I use to struggle trying to imagine a life after high school; college was always just a fantasy.

I remember when my brother applied to college, when he moved in, and then finally when he graduated. It was inspiring, and made me eager, but it never felt like an experience I was going to be able to touch.

Even though, a year from now i’ll be sitting in a dorm room at some mystery school, it still feels like something so far away. It’s scary how fast it’s coming; how little time we have left with the freedom of high school responsibilities.

I would like to think that going to college is the beginning of a whole new chapter, something new, fresh, and exciting. Graduating college on the other hand, now that’s the end of my life. I mean, i’m going to be an adult in just a couple months, but you once you are out of college, thats like real adult life, something i’m not excited for. Who am I if not a teenager girl?

Movie Review/ Mr.Smith Goes to Washington

Credit: Google/ IMDd

I recently watched Mr.Smith Goes to Washington in my government class. 10/10 movie,  definitely recommend. If you’re interested in learning about the Senate and its bill discussion process, this movie is a great place to start. It’s also not boring like most movies teachers tend to show.

The cast 100/10. Mr. Smith is a swell character. Although he’s introduced as a foolishly patriotic “boy ranger”, his true character really shines. His face card is also 1939 lethal. His face card was a definite highlight that helped the movie avoid being boring. His personality is also out of this world. He’s so goofy, compassionate, and has immaculate integrity, which was refreshing to see in the government in the 1930s.

It really made me think about my current government and the fact that some of the outrageous things done in the movie have also been done in reality. Although it was disappointing, I also realized that if people truly wanted to see change, they could take action.

Over the Garden Wall

Over the Garden Wall is a 2014 animated series released on Cartoon Network. It’s usually correlated with fall due to its themes of autumn, taking place on Halloween, and its overall homey theme, as if you’re watching the show sitting next to a warm campfire.

The show tells the story of two half-brothers, Wirt and Greg, who travel through a mysterious forest, just trying to find their way home, despite not knowing how they’ve made it into the forest in the first place. The show is hand-drawn through every episode, and has beautiful visuals, well-done animation, and amazing storytelling throughout the short 10 episode mini-series.

I personally connect with the series due to my own experiences. The first time I watched it was when I had to evacuate my house due to the Mountain Fire in Camarillo, burning up to 19,900 acres of land, and making it to my property. We evacuated, and my younger brother William and I decided to finish watching the show because we had watched it a few days earlier.

I’ll spare you the ending and any other spoilers, but the show really changed me in a way I can’t physically put into words. I recommend that if you like dark animation (or just animated shows in general) or a good soundtrack with amazing worldbuilding to go along with it, you should watch it. Or if you just like the vibe of fall. I recommend that everyone watch it.

Come Back Clouds

Don’t get me wrong, I love the sunny summers. In fact my very first blog was about my love for the beach. But after months of the beaming sun, sweat, and mosquitoes, I am very ready for the winter. I miss the fog rolling in and never leaving. I miss the sound of rain pounding on my ceiling as I sleep. I miss being able to wear sweatpants and baggy sweaters to school. The outfits I wear during winter aren’t the most fashionable, but they’re definitely comfortable. I yearn to sit in class in an outfit that feels just like my bed, not jean shorts that leave marks on my legs and a tank top. I’m most excited to bake cookies and watch movies on rainy days. Nothing beats the feeling of relaxing and cuddling up on a rainy day. I never feel lazy when I lay around while it’s raining. The sun makes me feel like a slug if I’m not up and moving. Playing sports in the heat has also been unbearable. I’m excited to finally play in cool weather that actually allows me to catch my breath. I know by the end of winter I’ll be begging for the sun to peak back through the clouds. For now, I’m begging for the winter and can’t wait another second.

FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona has always been my favorite pro soccer team. The players who made me love FC Barcelona are Messi, Ronaldinho, and Neymar, but none of them play for Barcelona anymore. The players that keep me loving Barca are Yammal, Frankie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Lewandowski, Raphina, Cubarsi, Kounde, Balde, and Eric. I also really like the coach Hansi Flick, who has been making Barcelona one of the best teams in the world. I have 12 Barcelona jerseys and they’re all hanging up on my wall. I also have a Barcelona flag, hat, sweatshirt, and scarf. Barcelona makes the best players in the world. I got to go to one Barca game in 2023. It was so fun and cool, even though they lost. The game wasn’t very serious because it was a preseason game, but I still had a lot of fun, and it was so cool to see. Barcelona forever!!!

Chemistry

When the school year started, I felt like I would be able to do chemistry. With my high ego, I walked into the class for the first time thinking it would be a piece of cake. I ignored how all of my older friends said how this was the hardest class they had ever taken. They all had said that they finished the semester with below a B. What I don’t understand is why we are mixing science and math, the two hardest subjects, and my two weakest. On the most recent test, it was based solely on math. I did the first page before I broke down in tears. It was almost embarrassing, having a breakdown over a chemistry test. No matter how hard I tried to understand it and answer the questions, I just couldn’t. I was like I was staring at numbers floating all over my page, asking me which one is a kilometer. How does one even study chemistry? If I don’t understand it in the first place, how will I study it? Not being able to do the test discouraged me for the rest of the day. I started to doubt myself and my knowledge, in other classes too. Until I realized that everyone struggles in some way, regardless of what class or situation.
