This week I had my birthday for the first time away from home. My birthday is always a fun day, and that remains true even when I’m not with my family. My friend brought his speaker to school and we listened to only the best music, Aubrey Graham.

My birthday was still made special to me, thanks to multiple teachers making efforts for me. On my door was a special message from Lebron James regarding my birthday. When I walked to breakfast, “Happy Birthday” was written in chalk at the bottom of the stairs. Lastly, a large sign was hanging on the art building wishing me a happy birthday.

At the end of the day, I was able to call my family and talk all about my day. It was nice to still hear from friends and family, even if I could not see them.

I have never “felt” older on my birthday, and that trend stays true this year. I wonder when I will feel older. Hopefully never.

Listening to Drake is a life-changing experience. While some generalize him as a popular rapper with hit songs that all sound similar, his catalog and talents run much deeper.

Drake is a lyrical genius. His songs touch on all aspects of life, from the highs to the lows, which can help the listener find the right song for the moment or occasion.

Drake’s talent extends beyond rap. Drake is versatile and not afraid to rap, sing, or perform in different styles of music or even languages. Some notable hits from Drake, including “MIA” and “Gently,” both featuring Bad Bunny, exercise Drake’s talents beyond simple English rap. Drake’s hit album “Honestly Nevermind” is widely considered a top Drake album, with all but one song being House/Dance music.

Drake’s catalog is versatile and easily rotatable without the feeling of overlistening to one artist. I am currently listening to “Summer Games” from Scorpion and “Race My Mind” from Certified Lover Boy.

It is refreshing to hear different types of music conveying different sounds and feelings when listening to each song. Drake is easy to listen to and is widely respected as a top current artist, with his longevity of producing hit songs that have exceeded a decade.

Drake bet on Drake

On Thursday, April, 28th the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft took place.

Months prior NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell read off the words, “With the first overall pick…” rapper Drake bet 100k that USC standout wide receiver Drake London would be the first receiver to be drafted. Drake posted a screenshot of his bet on his Instagram, captioning the story post, “Drake betting on Drake just feels right” And Drake was right, London was the first receiver taken off the board going 8th overall to Atlanta.

Drake’s bet earned the rapper $335,000.00. London got a kick out of it but he was definitely more excited than he is about joining the NFL

Drake’s on his Worst Behavior

Although I could make an entire blog post (honestly, a series of blog posts) on the perfection that is Rihanna, today I’m talking about something she said in her interview with Vogue.

In her interview, she recounted a very famous speech that Drake gave while introducing her as MTV’s Video Vanguard recipient in 2016.

“Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part. I don’t like too many compliments; I don’t like to be put on blast,” she said to Vogue writer Chioma Nnadi.

In other words, Drake made her pretty uncomfortable. This very public expression of unrequited feelings made by one celebrity to another is manipulative and harmful. For one, Drake chose to do his manifestation of his feelings in a moment meant to honor Rihanna’s decade-long achievements in the music industry, but, instead, he took away all the sentiment in that speech.

In the wake of Rihanna’s belated response, people have come to Drake’s defense saying he was simply trying to get out his feelings. If he truly had Ri’s intentions at heart, he could’ve expressed his infatuation with her after they left the stage or virtually any other private setting. So, no, it wasn’t a spur of the moment reaction, but a cheap way of revealing his crush on Rihanna in hopes that she won’t immediately reject him.

All in all, I simply think Drake could’ve handled the situation a lot better. Now, the 2016 VMA’s will go down as “that time Drake said he loved Rihanna on TV.” It will never be a celebration of Rihanna’s boundless talent, (those killer performances, though!) which is what she definitely deserved.

What’s that I smell? Comeback.

The Kings started off this shortened season on sort of rocky seas so to speak.

The home opener against the Chicago Blackhawks was nothing short of depressing after riding out the high of winning the Stanley Cup.

In the end losing to the Blackhawks made sense seeing as they went on to set the all time record for most consecutive games from the start of a season not lost in regular time.

For a while it looked like the Kings were going to fall out of playoff contention, but just as they did last year they, to quote a song, “started from the bottom, and now the whole team’s [*******] here.”

Last year they went from being the #8 seed in the Western Conference to the #1 team in the NHL within a matter of weeks.

The Kings are currently holding in 4th place, but are tied with Vancouver at 48 points.

The Blackhawks remain #1 with 62 out of a possible 76 points, and have clinched a playoff spot, but it will be a battle with the Anaheim Ducks to see who takes the west.

Hopefully the Kings climb to the top, but their final position in the west is unknown.

Hopefully they can pull out a repeat of last year and come up from the bottom, surprising everyone in their path.

My life of music

I love hip hop. Lil Wayne, Drake, Kanye West, Eminem and Kid Cudi are some of my favorite performers. I love rap and the lyrics that go with it.

I love hearing the raw beats of the artists that preach what their lives have seen. But honestly, what annoys me is the lack of recognition by the Grammy committee.

Ya, that’s right. I’m about to bash the heck out of Adele. I’m tired of hearing Rolling in the Deep every time I turn on the freakin’ radio. I hate it. I don’t hate the song. I just hate the crazy repetition. It just bugs me that the same artists get the recognition and the other genres get nothing. You never see like Ludacris get nominated for best album or anything. It’s always Adele this or Katy Perry that or Taylor Swift that. I hate it.

What kinda music do you guys love?

Rap is always number 1 to me.

Lykke Li.

Female artists always inspire me and Lykke Li is no exception.Li’s music is classified as indie.

Originating from the small european country of Sweden the female artists music has now progressed world widely. Through her songs we see influences of her european heritage and swedish roots.

Lykke Li’s music is excellently varied. She has slow songs such as “Tonight” for those who need to relax and quirky up beat songs like “Get Some” for those who prefer the busier melody. Thousands across the world enjoy her music with it’s soothing tones and quirky  attitude.

Her became known after her song “little bit” in 2007. The release of the song followed on to numerous remixes which included a  debut by the well-known hip-hop artist Drake.

Although Lykke Li has had many of her own songs she has also collaborated with many other artists such as Primal Scream, Kleerup and Royksopp.

Releasing her new album “Wounded Rhymes” on the 25th of February 2011, her latest single  “I follow rivers” is proving to be a hit among indie lovers, appearing on popular blogs and sites.

In my opinion Lykee Li is different from artists and that is what I love about her. She’s unique and doesn’t try to impress or conform to the stereotypes, releasing great songs that are easy to listen to and put one in a great mood.
