Futbol and Football

The shock news today was that Arsenal tied Sunderland after getting an early lead. Arsenal went up 1-0 in the 13th minute but gave up the win in the 95th minute when Sunderland’s Darren Bent scored the equalizer. Everton continued their abysmal start, losing 1-0 against Newcastle United. Everton has a talented squad but cannot put together a good team effort on the pitch. Tottenham Hotspurs were able to pick up three points, coming back to beat Wolverhampton 3-1.

North of England, in the Scottish Premier League, Rangers walked all over Dundee United, winning 4-0 to stay  at the top of the league. In Germany Stuttgart destroyed Borussia Monchengladbach 7-0, a surprising scoreline.

The trash talking continued ahead of tomorrows clash between Manchester United and Liverpool F.C. Sir Alex Ferguson came out today and said that Liverpool’s recent decline is due to former coach Rafael Benitez, not due to the owners. Benitez last season blamed their 7th place performance on the lack of available funds for buying new players. Liverpool look to show that their new coach Roy Hodgson is the man for the job tomorrow when they take on their red rivals.

Although real football is usually he focus on my blog, today I read an article that I thought deserved some attention. The news came out today that Washington Huskies coach and former USC coach Steve Sarkisian thinks that Reggie Bush’s returning of the Heisman Trophy was not enough. Sarkisian claims that Bush should have apologized and that he “just looks like an idiot again.” Bush was asked to return the Heisman because he and his parents were caught accepting  gifts from people associated with the USC football program while he was in college, which is strictly against NCAA rules. This one story has been the focus of sports articles and programs for long enough. Reggie Bush might have taken gifts but in my mind it did not affect his immense talent. Yes this is the first time the Heisman has been returned but this should not overshadow the amazing talent the Reggie Bush showed during his time in college.

UCLA

In about three days, I have a brother who is leaving for UCLA. My whole family is really excited about this. My grandpa attended UCLA and my grandma worked in the student services office, so she is very proud to see another generation following in their footsteps. While growing up, my brother and I watched two teams battle for the top ranking position in their sport. One was the Los Angeles Lakers, and the other being the UCLA Bruins’ football team.
nullUCLA tries to stop a runningback for Stanford
The UCLA football team has been one of the most decorated college football teams in history. Recently, however, the team has not been doing too well. The football team went down in a 35-0 loss against Stanford last weekend and some are calling the team one of the worst in L.A. history. Another part of UCLA sports that has gone downhill recently is the closing of Pauley Pavilion. The Pauley Pavilion is where the UCLA basketball teams play, and also the home of the late John Wooden. Aside from that, it is also a magnificent sight from the outside. But, as luck would have it, it is being closed this year for a three-year renovation. In combination with the woes of the football team, these two factors are a bit depressing for my family. However, it is still exciting that my brother will be going there. I hope he has a superb time at UCLA, and I wish him luck nonetheless.

One of the Most Complicated Words in the Engish Language

Love, one of the most misunderstood, complicated words in the English language, has preoccupied our minds since the time we discovered our kindergarten crushes amongst the view of sandboxes and swing sets. We thought it was hard enough when criticism meant the screaming “I love you!” in our middle school years, but somehow the miscommunication only gets worse over time. The missed phone calls, confused signals, and turn of the century facebooking, has now created the most confused generation of classic love birds, best friends, and everything in between. Here I am. No expert in the art of love, but simply, surrounded by the wonders of it.

Enjoy the Ride

I’ve been listening almost exclusively to electro music lately. I’m moving to the bay area soon and my friend next door started mixing under the DJ name TechYES. It would be pointless to resist. Yes, there will be a lot of electronic music in my future. It’s been a rough transition at times for the adamant indie kid in me, but I’m starting to see the light. Music is music, and good music is great. One of my bros frequents techno blogs, and showed me this gem the other day. The track is a perfect example of how to shatter genre barriers and have a good time.

The Inbetweeners

This Monday, all over Britain fans gathered at their screens to see the return of the legendary hit series “The Inbetweeners.” The cast returned Monday evening previewing the third season of the BAFTA award winning sitcom on the channel E4. This show has been long awaited by thousands of fans and the new season definitely did not disappoint with its comical excellence and genius plots.

There is definitely not another show like this. Honestly, I have not found another program that can make me cry so much with laughter. The best thing is  each episode never fails to disappoint. The show is consistently entertaining and I recommend it to anyone , especially those who need cheering up or even if you just fancy exercising those tear ducts. It is pure TV gold.

The program is written by Damon Beesley and Ian Morris ,it was first screened in May 2008 and since then its popularity has increased dramatically. The Inbetweeners is about a group of teenage friends attempting to make it through Sixth Form (High school) successfully. It follows the story of Will who moves from a private school into the state system befriending Simon, Neil and Jay. The show follows their traumatic and highly embarrassing school years as well as there dreadful social life. It’s not to be missed.

Here’s a clip that I thought was quite entertaining, and maybe even slightly related to class. I hope you find it entertaining.
Enjoy.

In Today’s World of Soccer…

Todays big news was Jose Mourinho, the current coach of Real Madrid F.C., was asked to coach Portugal in the qualifiers of the European Cup. Portugal dismissed their last coach, Carlos Queiroz, and now need a new one. Portugal is really in need of some victories. They have not been playing at all recently. I got the chance to see them play Brazil in the world cup and although they have real talent in the back and in the midfield, they lack a striker who scores goals. In Portugal’s First two qualifiers they had very poor results, tying the tiny island of Cyprus 4-4 and then losing to Norway 1-0. For a country with as much talent and history as Portugal, this is unbelievable. But is “The Chosen One” the answer? Jose Mourinho has won every place he has been however, being thrown into the coaching position of a team which is in total disarray, that might ruin his track record. I believe he could do well with the team but it is not in his best interest to potentially ruin his outstanding track record. None of this matters though because ultimately Real Madrid holds his contract and with the season in full swing and Barcelona playing so well, they wont let him go anywhere.

In other news, Liverpool beat Steaua Bucharest 4-1 at home. This was expected but it will be worrisome to Manchester United fans like myself that Liverpool have some momentum. This weekends clash looks to be a classic. Both teams now have 18 league titles and Alex Ferguson wants that last one before he hangs up his coaches jacket. As always there will be plenty of drama and hard tackles. Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher said today that the rivalry with Liverpool in still the biggest of the season. This will be the first time United face a Liverpool side managed by Roy Hodgson. I have a feeling that whoever wins this game will finish above the other come the end of the season. With that being said, my money is on United. Rooney should be energized and the team will be looking to prove that they still have the spark after a disappointing tie with Rangers on Tuesday.

For the upset of the day I will turn to the shocking defeat of the reigning UEFA League Champions Athletico Madrid at the hands of Aris Salonika. This will be a wake-up call to the European Super Cup trophy holders. If they are going to lose to a relatively small team from Greece, they will be in for a long season. If they want to have any chance of a repeat they need to get Sergio Aguero healthy fast so they can start scoring some goals.

for the first time, Here’s What’s Happening

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to my first blog ever. This is a truly historic event as we are now currently embarking on quite an adventure together. We will be discussing many topics including former child stars in the slammer, golfers in car crashes, plastic surgeons on twitter driving off cliffs, and everything about current movies, music, sports, and entertaining things as well as, What’s Happening.
Now other than Justin Bieber apparently landing a role on CSI (his bull cut looks as fine as ever,) M Night Shyamalan’s new movie DEVIL, and THE TOWN will be in theaters this weekend. Not much else is going on in my life right now . It’s fun being a senior and my football team has its first game tomorrow, and we all hope to wipe the floor with Trinity.

In the meantime, (this will be a trend with every blog or every other blog, I will leave with a joke or a list or something funny so here’s the first one.

Here now is a list of people I can do without.
a cross eyed nun with a bullwhip and a bottle of Gin, a crying woman with a harpoon gun entering a sports bar , a funeral director who says “hope to see you folks real soon”, a proctologist with poor depth perception, a dentist with blood in his hair, girls who get drunk and throw up at breakfast, a brain surgeon named “Lucky Lipschitz”, a woman who’s head you cannot see in the car at all, a scout master who owns a collection of shrunken heads, and any man who’s arm hair completely cover’s his wrist watch.

What We Can’t See

It’s a dark day in anyone’s life when they find out they’ve been lied to. That famous stories or famous people turn out to be nothing more than smoke and mirrors. For years we have been taught a song. For years it has been embedded in our head and hummed subconsciously while we walk to class or when we’re about to fall asleep. This song has told us that everything will be okay. That we all share everything and that, in the end, no one has absolutely nothing. “This land is my land, this land is your land,” what complete and utter BS. We have been listening to this song since kindergarten, all the way through middle school and even in parts of high school. We’ve been told that we can do or be anything we want to be, that all the land we see is in some way ours. But then it becomes, “You can do anything you want to do and be anything you want to be… within reason.” And that is what the last verse of “This Land Is Your Land” points out to the world. The last verse of “This Land Is Your Land” that no one actually ever knows, or is ever shown, or ever sings in the shower. The last verse of “This Land Is Your Land, ” that no one ever seems to hear. That one verse that states:

“In the squares of the city – In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office – I see my people
And some are grumblin’ and some are wonderin’
If this land’s still made for you and me.”

Maybe this land really isn’t meant for you and me. Maybe it was all just meant for you.

No Longer Invisible

Hey everyone! What’s the worst thing that’s happened to you this week? Did any of you get dumped by your partner you’ve had since 9th grade? Did any of you get pulled over for speeding? Did any of you get into a fight with your mom or dad? Imagine your high school sweetheart being taken away and forced to fight a war they didn’t deserve to fight. Imagine speeding away in a car or running away from an angry mob of men chasing after you while bullets are rushing by. Now imagine your mother of father being murdered right in front of you. Imagine fighting for your life with almost no chance of surviving. Believe it or not, while I type this message, someone is doing exactly that. Fighting. They are fighting for survival and they are fighting for freedom.

Just a few decades ago in Uganda, Africa a rebellion began. That rebellion led to a war. That war is still happening today and now it is involving the young children of Africa. In 2003, three men decided that this war must end and they started with a documentary on the lives of war-stricken victims. Now, almost 8 years later they are traveling all over North America to get people involved in making a difference for Africa. Volunteers from the organization as well as an actual refugee from Northern Uganda came to my school tonight and told us their story. I was inspired and I want to share my inspiration. So, I’m sending this email to everyone in my contact list, hoping that it will be read and passed on to others. Please visit the website and see just how much suffering these people have to endure. The reality of it all will shock you.
