Some people give soccer a bad name. Bolton Wanderer’s Ivan Klasnic was arrested over rape allegations. This is not the first time a soccer player has made a mistake like this.

Bolton is currently mid-table and Klasnic has been a reliable players throughout last year and this years campaign. However he cannot be a help to the team if he is in jail. Soccer players (and successful athletes in general) are often accused of rape by gold diggers and drug addicts. Kobe Bryant felt the effect of being wrongfully accused of rape when in Denver.

His reputation was tarnished even though evidence was found supporting that he was not involved. There has not been enough evidence come to light yet to know Klasnic’s involvement and even the accuser.

All we know is that he has been accused of raping a 17-year-old and he has been taken in because of it. Hopefully he is innocent however recent events are not in the soccer players favor. From Robinho to Rooney, soccer players have been accused of rape.

Sports athletes are role models, they make a lot of money and should show discretion in their actions. There is no excuse for raping or even infidelity. Athletes need to realize their influence on the general public and know that what they do can change our culture. They need to prevent rape and cheating from becoming acceptable in our society.
