Lantern Festival.

Tomorrow is the Chinese Lantern Festival, which is also regarded as the last day of Chinese new year, and also my favorite Chinese Festival.

It is the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, the first lunar month is called yuan-month and in the ancient times people called night Xiao.

When I was young, the only thing I did on this special day was wait for my uncle, because he would visit me and bring me a lantern. I love lanterns! Each year I got a different one, and they usually depend on the theme of the year, such as the Chinese Zodiac.

The lanterns were made and painted in various shapes and colors which stand for different meanings. I keep all my lanterns from my uncle. Honestly, I still don’t know why it has to be the uncle to bring the lanterns to the kid, because sometimes I would think that, in the future, my child will not have any uncles!!

Another part I really enjoy was to gather with my family and eat the delicious glutinous rice ball, also known as “Tangyuan.” It meant a lot when everyone get together as a whole family. And on the table, we share our wishes for the new year, usually they will come true!

I haven’t spent this day with my family for three years, and this year, too. Luckily, in Ojai I can find the Tangyuan in the Chinese supermarket which is fantastic. However, there is no lantern here.

Therefore, according to the tradition, now it is really the time to end my 2012 and start 2013, a better year.

Happy New Year!
