Welcome to America

I have come to the conclusion that the method of immigrating to another county is a joke. Whilst some people hop over the border to gain a new lifestyle. I have to wait a year and a half to get a visa. It is truly ridiculous.

It’s ironic really that it takes so long. In all seriousness the process could be cut a lot shorter. I mean you could just get a flight to another country, buy a house, car etc and BAM you’re now a resident of a new country. But non it has to be made difficult.

Confusion Over Military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Policy Arises

Since Bill Clinton’s presidency in 1993, the military has strictly enforced a rule referred to as the “Don’t ask, Don’t tellpolicy aimed at eliminating both female and male homosexuals from serving in the military. This policy, which has brought much debate in the previous year, has recently been a topic of discussion among congress, undergoing changes that have ultimately confused the public.

“We are clearly in a legally uncertain environment,” said a senior Pentagon official regarding the policy changes.

While a recent attempt to overturn this policy ended in a hung jury, Defense Secretary Robert Gates has ordered that potential soldiers are no longer required to state their sexual orientation. In addition, just last Thursday Mr. Gates stated that no man should be banned from military service due to sexual orientation unless approved by the three top Pentagon civilian officials.

These requested changes will be either finalized or dismissed this coming Monday during a scheduled court hearing.

Although uncertainty imminently exists, the “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” policy is finally undergoing necessary changes, ridding the world of unjust discrimination and bias.

Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear

Today, one of the most amazing political rallies in America took place in the National Mall in Washington D.C. The “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear” took place.  This, of course, was the hugely successful political rally that comedy talk show hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert hosted. Jon Stewart held the rally to restore sanity to America, while Colbert sarcastically held it to restore fear. The rally boasted such celebrities as Cat Stevens, Ozzy Osborne, Mavis Staples, Jeff Tweedy,  the O-Jays, John Legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Sheryl Crow, the Roots and many more (including a giant puppet of Colbert). There were supposedly 250, 000 people in attendance. The crowd of people stretched from the Capitol Building to the National Monument.

The rally was supposed to be funny, but had very strong political themes. Stewart and Colbert debated one of the largest issues in America, the media. Stewart argued that the media sends too many messages of fear, while Colbert sarcastically made fun of him. The highlight of the rally was when the never-seen Cat Stevens got into a musical argument with Ozzy Ozborne. In all, the rally was a huge success, and hopefully it restored sanity to many.

“What’s Eating You?”

There is a new television series on entitled “What’s Eating You?” The show airs on the E Entertainment Network weekly. The cast of the show consists of women struggling with eating disorders.

I feel that this show relays a very powerful and important message to our generation about health and fullness of life. It shows first hand, the effects that eating disorders which can be deadly.

The show also exposes the raw reality of the fashion and modeling businesses, and how corrupt they have become. It is one of the first programs that spills the secret truth about the fashion world and shatters the inaccurate perceptions that girls around the world dream up.

One of the cast members, Kiara Lomeli, said “I know I’m dying but I choose death on the skinny side not the fat side.”

My hope is that this television series takes advantage of its public influence, and shows how truly devastating and life threatening eating disorders are so that we can become more aware, and finally make some real changes so that we stop loosing so many beautiful girls to these deadly illnesses so frequently.

But Darling Don’t

It is that one person who you think is your friend.

That one person who will tell you anything and everything.

That one person who will come to you, crying, because they did something wrong.

That one person who lies through choked sobs and teary words.

It is that person that will turn their back on you as soon as they get what they want.

After they have achieved their ultimate goal (whatever that may be), you are useless to them.

Tell me, what is friendship?

What does it mean to befriend someone?

Osama’s Threat

For long the world had lived assuming that the leader of al-Quida and the man behind the crash of the World Trade Center in New York, Osama bin Ladin, was dead. However, an audio message threat to France on Wednesday, shows that the group and the leader are once again active and plan to endanger lives if the French government goes ahead with their plan of ban of the veil in public places.

In his message, Osama also mentioned that the last month’s kidnaping of five foreigners, including five of which were French, in the Sarah desert in northern Niger, was in fact a warning to the French government. The message which was only about a minute and a half long, said a lot including the fact that lives will be in danger because they are putting their women’s lives in danger. “As you wrongly have decided that you have the right to ban Muslim women from wearing the veil, is it not our right to drive out your conquerors by killing them?” Bin Laden asked. The French government is under real threat and unless chosen other-wise they want to put the law on hold till they can further settle matters with the group, however this decision relies only to the higher judges in France.

In all the time that television has existed there has been controversy about the overexposure of actors (mostly female) to their youthful fans. Their careers start out with a bubblegum pop image and then as soon as their fan-base grows to over a million the bomb drops; racy photos and videos that leave us flabbergasted.

With an IQ 220, Kim Ung Yong from South Korea surprised the world. He spoke fluently by 6 months, read Japanese, Korean, German, and English by an age of 2, solved a calculus problem when he was just 4 years old, and divulged his talents in poetry and painting during his childhood. He even took College courses in Korea from 4 to 7.

His IQ is an equivalent of the one of Leonardo da Vinci. However, none of these fancy titles like a prodigy, Guinness recorder, and genius mattered to him. They rather reminded himself of a “monkey in a zoo.”

Voluntarily leaving from his work at NASA at an age of 14, he looked for “his” life in Korea. Due to an absence of his elementary, middle school, and high school diplomas, he began his education from the very basics.

When he chose to enter an infamous university located in rural region of Korea despite his high score on standardized tests, the world derided at his choice and called him as a failure.
