Fashion Police – The Grammys

Award show season is known to be a cutthroat race to the top of the best-dressed list amongst celebrities.

Sometimes a risk will pay off, other times you’re the laughing-stock of television and magazines for weeks to come.

At the Grammy Awards this year, there were many fashion standouts, along with plenty of fashion disasters. At the top of the best-dressed list, Taylor Swift is sitting pretty.

An Ellie Saab gown with a blue ombre effect – the gown had an open front and shoulder cutouts, inspired by the designer’s spring runway.

Swift paired the gown with bright aqua Lorainne Shwartz earrings, blue-toned eye shadow, and a pop of purple with Giuseppe Zanotti heels to pull the whole look together.

On the other hand, there is Rihanna. Normally, a red-carpet fashion lover can count of RiRi for a sleek and sexy look.

This year Rihanna was the exact opposite of that – she was wearing a bright pink diamond and tulle layered dress. The star looked more like a princess cake topper, or maybe even a bright pink loofah you’d find in a 14-year-old’s shower, than a fashion icon.

Next to Taylor on the best-dressed list are Beyoncé and Gwen Stefani.

Queen B was rocking an elegant sheer black gown with a plunging neckline created by local New York designer, Proenza Schoule.

Gwen Stefani took a different route and went with a jumpsuit.

Atelier Versace made an asymmetrical detailed bustier with voluminous pants tapered at the ankle that created a graceful while fun and sassy look.

To cap off the worst dressed list are Madonna and Charli XCX. Madonna was wearing a terrible hodge-podge of lace and leather. Shoulder pads are not back Madge. The star wore a Givenchy Bustier and leather thigh-high boots with a strange ensemble of accessories.

Up and coming star Charli XCX was wearing a white Moschino metallic pantsuit that had a cheap looking sheen. Her pink bow tie, ruffled maître d’ like shirt, and baby pink fur coat topped of her risky fashion faux pas.

P!nk

Four years ago, I was watching the Grammy’s with my mom, and saw what I thought was the most amazing performance I had ever seen – or was going to see. P!nk sang her song, “Glitter in the Air,” meticulously while doing acrobatics in midair. I’m not joking. That takes some serious skill, and I was properly impressed.

Of course, P!nk is not exactly one to slack off after delivering only one stellar performance, so she set about proving me wrong two years later during the 2012 American Music Awards, where she executed a flawless ballet routine with a partner to her popular song “Try.” The performance showcased her incredible talent, strength, and flexibility. All while singing. When I thought I would never see a more impressive performance than “Glitter in the Air,” two years prior, I had most definitely been wrong.

Then P!nk went and broke her own personal awesome performance record during this years Grammy’s. She combined her two previous performances, set to her song “Try.” But she didn’t stop there, and she went on to sing her song “Just Give Me a Reason,” with Nate Ruess. In all, the performance was incredible.

I was so impressed with these performances that I sent the three links to my dad – who had an appropriate reaction: “She is a badass.” That about sums it up. And if you haven’t seen the videos, go see them.

The Week

Well, a lot of stuff happened this week, so I’ll get right to it.

The biggest thing hat happened was probably the Grammys. I just watched it and wasn’t really impressed by any of it (other than Adele. Because Adele’s the best.). And I really have to go out on limb and say how much I hate bands like fun. It really makes me happy to see the Es-335 has made the spectacular rise in talent from Chuck Berry to the guy with the undercut in fun.

The next biggest thing that is happening this week is the ongoing Christopher Jordan Dorner caper. This guy was apparently so sick of the widespread corruption, racism and brutality in the LAPD that he has taken it upon himself to end the problem by killing the alleged offenders of human rights in the city. This fascinating story about a real-life “V” stems from his even more fascinating manifesto written by Dorner. His tales from working on the force with the LAPD are absolutely terrible. The LAPD, he says, hasn’t changed since the Rodney King days, and the evidence to his point is very convincing. I suggest everyone goes and reads what he has to say here.

Adele.

Adele
Many are familiar with Adele for her debut song Hometown Glory and the numerous remixes that have presented themselves in the past years.

In 2009 her first album 19 was a raging success with critics and listeners loving her strong voice and melodic symphonies. Becoming number one in the UK album charts and winning two Grammys, people thought that Adele really could not get any better.

After a break away from the charts Adele has once again returned with her new album 21. The new album reflects the transformation of the singer and the changes she has incurred after her past success.

Her warming tones and emotional lyrics are still evident but with new confidence and passion. She has a “crystal clear” perspective on her life and this is shown through the new material.

Although Adele believes in ‘hometown glory’ her new album has many tracks that are based around the old sounds of America.

This album is truly inspiring and Adele has not failed to disappoint.
