Samantha Who?

What does the movie, the Anchorman (featuring Will Ferrell and Steve Carell), and NBC’s show, Up All Night (starring Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph), have in common?

Christina Applegate!

And she is making her way up my favorites list again with the tv show, Samantha Who?

I started watching this show just recently and I fell in love with it.

The story begins in a hospital. Samantha Newly, Christina Applegate’s character, has just woken up from an 8-day coma after being hit by a car. She suffers retrograde amnesia meaning she cannot recall memories from a certain time period before the accident. In the few episodes that I have watched, Samantha is on a backwards journey trying to find out who she was and changing herself for the better.

I absolutely love it.

Here’s a starter video that will give you a good summary of what it’s about:

And here is a scene from the Anchorman-a bit random but something funny!

Shutter Island

Gosh, it was such an unexpected ending. The producer of this movie must be super smart.

Shutter Island was directed and produced by Martin Scrosese in the United States in 2010. The movie is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane and is starring Leonardo Dicaprio as the U.S Marshal “Edward Daniels” who came to “Shutter” island, where a psychiatric facility is located, to investigate the case of a woman who had earlier managed to escape from the facility.

The plot of the movie was very confusing with a misleading ending, but it’s so worth seeing. I would highly recommend seeing this movie with you friends so you could discuss it afterwards, otherwise, you might not understand the message.

I strongly believe that this movie should be on your must-to-do –list !

Fat Sundays with Tom Cruise

Huddled together.

Light cutting the darkness like blades

through the spaces between the blinds.

Our heads come closer to the screen,

our limbs intertwined.

A mess of blankets and

the overwhelming scent of Chinese food.

Golden Moon did it again.

Our stomachs are aching

but, we don’t mind.

Tom Cruise is almost dead,

Julia with a gun in her hand.

HE’S ALIVE!

We all let out a sigh of relief,

our hands let go of each others.

This is a good Sunday afternoon.

Surrounded by my friends,

just being fat and lazy.

I am so happy.

This is happiness.

“Friendship is a special kind of love.”

The Inbetweeners Movie

The Inbetweeners

Yes the nerdy quartet are back. After the end of their third and final season in October 2010 The Inbetweeners are back with a movie.

Released this summer, the film is truly hilarious. I can honestly say that I have never been in a full cinema where everyone laughed so much including my American boyfriend who doesn’t understand much proper English.

The film tracks the four boys adventure to Malia, one of the biggest party destinations in Europe. And follows their unlucky, laughable mistakes as well as their desperate attempts to find women.

Out soon on DVD the film is definitely the perfect Christmas for anyone who wants a good laugh. It is truly one of the funniest movies you will ever watch.

Finding Joe

Today, I saw the documentary “Finding Joe” at the Ojai Playhouse. The film was all about the teachings of the mythologist and philosopher Joseph Campbell.

Basically, Campbell’s ideas about life come from his ideas about mythology. He says that there is only really one story in all stories of all time. That story is that there is a character that faces a problem, and then changes as a result of that problem. He put this idea into his philosophy.

He said that people will face problems, but eventually overcome them if they are strong enough, or try hard enough. Success, in his words, is obtainable by all.

In my opinion, success is not obtainable by all. Sadly, some people, no matter how hard they try, will never become what they really want to be. Some people are either luckier or just happen to do things at the right time.

Anyway, I got a free ticket to the screening of the movie and to the reception afterwards with the director since I’m part of the Ojai youth film society board.    The director was actually pretty cool, and I got a high five from him after I brought up that I was not allowed to show my most recent movie at my school.

“That’s how you know how you know that you are making better films.” He said, “If more people dislike it, then they are probably better. Until a certain point.”

I get the feeling that I’m going to remember those words for a while. I want to become a director and screenwriter when I’m older. Let’s hope I’m as lucky as Mr. Campbell.

Other than that…..

I had to see Black Swan again. I’m sure for all those who did not pay attention to the title as shown above that you’ll be thinking I saw it merely for that scene with Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. You know, that FAMOUS scene that is sure to win best kiss at the MTV video awards. Well I’m here today to mention that scene, and the fact that it was one scene among many.

The truth is that I had not seen a psychological thriller like this one in a long time. I thought that the plot within the plot idea was very amusing in a positive and engaging way. What I mean by this is when Natalie Portman says her performance was “perfect” in the end, she alluded to the idea that the film in itself and the plot of her life for the weeks the script covered were identical with her performance in Swan Lake as the Swan Queen.

Natalie Portman plays Nina Sayers, a shy and innocent ballet dancer who is, as her mother describes, “a sweet girl” and “the most dedicated dancer in the company.” She’s been there the longest and the company, by my understanding very renowned and the best in New York City (a city dedicated to culture), is performing a rendition of Swan Lake.

The plot of the piece involves a prince who falls in love with a girl trapped in the form of a white swan. Only true love from the prince can set her free. The white swan embodies innocence and beauty which can be interpreted by our society as what guys call “cute” rather than “hot.” Enter the black swan. The black swan embodies the “bad girl” type of vibe. She is sexy, outgoing, and uses charm in a seductive way. Their movements are different in the dance as they should be. The black swan seduces the prince causing a devastated white swan to kill herself.

one award, one list

Once upon a time there was an award for cinematic excellence. This was a truly special award. Just to be nominated was a truly special thing. Those who won have remained in our hearts for years and their legend lives on today. To the winners, we salute you.

“Scha-wingggggg”- Wayne Campbell

What happened to this award?! Seriously! If they allow teen’s choice awards to even exist then I personally don’t see the logic in getting rid of something like this. This list was great. It got our imaginations working and it was guaranteed to start arguments not end them. Not to mention the increase at the box office. Seeing as I’m a man of charity though, I will not let them win. I will keep stimulating minds and creating intellectual thought, as well as helping out the movie business.

Now here’s a list I have personally compiled. The top 10 action movie starletts of the past decade. This particular topic came up because 1: The Roommate is coming out soon, and 2: well I just seem to believe that this genre seems to leave guys walking out of the theater drooling thanks to girls in tight leather uttering catchy one liners and shooting .38s. Plus (3) they all seem to be smoking hot.

here’s my list.

1: Angelina Jolie (Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Lara Croft Tomb Raider)

2: tie between Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels)

3: Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2)

4: Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean)

5: Olga Kurylenko (James Bond Quantum of Solace)

6: Rose Byrne (Troy)

7: Eva Mendes (2Fast 2Furious)

8: Jessica Biel (Blade Trinity)

9: Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil and Ultraviolet)

10: Rose McGowan (Planet Terror)
