Studying

I’ve learned this year that actually taking time to study has helped my grades a lot. Usually I’ll go over my notes and pray for the best, but I regret it the morning of the test when I don’t know most of the answers. Last night I scanned the internet trying to figure out the best way to study so that I can actually retain the information in my brain up until I take the test. One thing that I found very helpful which made me confident on taking my test was writing flash cards with key terms and definitions on the back. I think that tactic worked the best for me because I was writing down what I needed to know and also quickly studying it over and over again. When I took my test I was more confident in my answers than I usually am and if I was unsure about an answer it’s because I didn’t even think of going back and studying the topic. The worst thing I can do when I’m studying is study in a group, especially if its my friends because either I cant focus or I’ll procrastinate it until I’m alone. Procrastination is usually what sets me back to being my fullest potential school wise. I’ll put every piece of school work off to the side for later and end up having to stay up late trying to get it done. I think I’m doing myself a favor giving myself less stress when I leave it to do later but instead I’m setting myself up for failure. I wouldn’t mind staying up late to study, but the only reason it doesn’t work for me is because I cannot focus when I’m the slightest bit tired so I end up going to sleep and putting it off even longer. Hopefully I don’t fall off track this year because if I do it’s over for me.

Three things I am grateful for #2

If I write way too many blogs now, maybe I can get to the point where I just don’t have to write any more blogs for the rest of the year.

Three things I am grateful for today

  1. Feeling awake. I went to bed too late yesterday, because I needed to wake up early this morning. I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it but I did. I thought I would be tired and miserable today, and I am not. I actually feel very happy and awake, and I am grateful for that.
  2. Pocky. I ate some chocolate-coconut pocky today and it was very good. I like sweet things. I don’t mean to eat a lot of sweets so often but they make me happy.
  3. Lists. I used to not use lists, or I would try to write some down and then I wouldn’t use them. I got some to-do list sticky notes during secret snowflake and they are so helpful. I write a to-do list during school every day and consult it when I work on my homework at night. It’s gotten to the point where I feel lost when I’m trying to study without my sticky notes.

Energy drinks that give you wings.

From high school to college, a lot of students love energy drinks such as Red Bull, Monster, etc.

Because of the high caffeine content in the energy drink, it enables students to stay up late and focus more efficiently to either finish their assignment or to study for the test that is coming up. Despite the positive effects, however, the side effects are severe.  Numerous research studies were made about the effects of the energy drink, which can lead to both mental and physical health issues. Symptoms of overusing energy drinks are insomnia, due to irregular sleep pattern, addiction, heart related issues such as cardiac arrest, etc.  If consumed properly, energy drinks can indeed help you, but once you start abusing it can quickly turn out to toxic chemical that ruins your body.

F.I.N.A.L.S.

It is that dreaded time of year again, finals.

After a full semester of work all I have to show for it is a bunch of pieces of crumpled papers in the bottom of my backpack and the ink my teacher puts on my test telling me how I did in their class this semester.

This time is stressful for all, and I try to not get caught up in the stress, but there is just no way around it.

Honestly, most finals for me aren’t too hard.

Math? Easy.

Science? Easy.

English? Easy

History? No sir.

Diet while studying?

Every night, at around 11PM, I get really hungry. My stomach is craving food. I still manage to focus on my work, but sometimes it churns.

That means I’m burning calories right?

Surprisingly, every hour I study, I burn about 92.4825 calories, which is worth more than a Hershey’s special dark chocolate stick! So maybe I burn about 400 calories every night from studying!

But the thing is, some people can’t focus on their work if they’re too hungry. Your brain needs some sugar. So, it really depends on if you can tolerate hunger and focus on your work while studying!

Here is the equation of how many calories you burn. The calories depend on your gender, weight and age.

1kg of your weight that burns every 1 minute: 0.0295 (kcal)
correction factor =0.95 for woman, 1.00 for men (age range of 20-29)

So, if a woman of 55kg (120pounds) studied for an hour…

55(kg) x 0.0295(kcal) x 60(minutes) x 0.95 = 92.4825 kcal

AWESOME!

So don’t blame yourself for eating while studying.

Now, I’m kind of liking studying…

Just kidding.

THIS IS WAR!

02-10-2011;War has been declared in the Upper wings of the girls dorm in Ojai Valley School. All girl dormers, take note.

I am currently engaged in a war. A video war that is.

Last night, my friend Madisen Demery and her roommate Joanna Degroof pulled my roommate and I out of our room after study hall into their room. They opened their laptops to show us a video of them dancing to Hannah Montana‘s Party in the U.S.A (click to watch the actual music video). My roommate and I were not impressed. However, they were smiling, enjoying themselves. What they didn’t know was that they had informally declared war with their amateur video.

My roommate and I split from the two girls, and two crews had formed. A music video battle had begun. We ran into the rooms, dressed up as ridiculously as we could with huge necklaces, matching white hats, and nerd glasses, and danced to the song, I believe in Miracles by Hot Chocolate (click on link to watch the video).

We tore apart our dresser and found matching white tee’s (cuz we are so G dawg) and wrote on them. At this moment, I believe that we will win. We will make the best music videos and win this war.

Watch out Maddie and Joanna.

Faith

A new study suggests that Atheists, or somebody who does not believe in the existence of God, know much more about religion than people who are religious. The study says that this happens because atheists usually like to know more about religion, and why they do not believe.

But the greater reason is because once somebody starts to believe in religion, then they stop questioning their faith. This is a very dangerous concept because one cannot blindly follow a religion that they know nothing about.
