Ginger Execution

It may be old news to you, but it certainly is new to me. MIA, the Sri-Lankan/british pop star, posted a video on her website that involved the execution of young male gingers. Is that not odd at all? A Sri-Lankan popstar made a video on suppression? I just think that’s very strange. The nine minute long video is something I have not actually seen, because the video was recently taken off youtube, but I am still searching for a copy. It was originally posted on her website, but even her managers banned it. Silly MIA, your WWII relapse failed.

Beep

Tired.

It is a type of drowsiness that envelops your entire being. It wraps around your body in a warm embrace and then suddenly dunks you into the Atlantic Ocean. It is unavoidable. You may postpone it, but you cannot escape the overwhelming exhaustion that becomes your entire soul.

You try to keep your eyes open, but if feels as though 20 bags of cement are on top of each lid, forcing them down, down, down. You have to stay awake, you have important things to do that could not possibly wait until morning, but you cannot control your subconscious.

Every day, I will wake up tired. Every day, I will be longing to be in my bed, eyes shut, and drifting softly into my dreams. No matter how much sleep I get the night before, I will forever be tired.

I feel like I could fall asleep all day, but when it comes the time where I am in my bed, my eyes refuse to close. All of a sudden, I am wide awake, and there is nothing I can do about it.

Tired, drowsy, and sleepy turn into awake, distressed, and uncomfortable.

When the day comes that I wake up, well rested and ready to start my day, I will be no less then shocked.

When the day comes, if the day comes?

I am awaiting it.

one award, one list

Once upon a time there was an award for cinematic excellence. This was a truly special award. Just to be nominated was a truly special thing. Those who won have remained in our hearts for years and their legend lives on today. To the winners, we salute you.

“Scha-wingggggg”- Wayne Campbell

What happened to this award?! Seriously! If they allow teen’s choice awards to even exist then I personally don’t see the logic in getting rid of something like this. This list was great. It got our imaginations working and it was guaranteed to start arguments not end them. Not to mention the increase at the box office. Seeing as I’m a man of charity though, I will not let them win. I will keep stimulating minds and creating intellectual thought, as well as helping out the movie business.

Now here’s a list I have personally compiled. The top 10 action movie starletts of the past decade. This particular topic came up because 1: The Roommate is coming out soon, and 2: well I just seem to believe that this genre seems to leave guys walking out of the theater drooling thanks to girls in tight leather uttering catchy one liners and shooting .38s. Plus (3) they all seem to be smoking hot.

here’s my list.

1: Angelina Jolie (Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Lara Croft Tomb Raider)

2: tie between Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels)

3: Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2)

4: Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean)

5: Olga Kurylenko (James Bond Quantum of Solace)

6: Rose Byrne (Troy)

7: Eva Mendes (2Fast 2Furious)

8: Jessica Biel (Blade Trinity)

9: Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil and Ultraviolet)

10: Rose McGowan (Planet Terror)

Thackerays critized

The most powerful family in Mumbai, India, has finally been opposed by none other than their private college‘s dean, Dr Frazer Mascarenhas S J.  The young and active leader of the Shiv Sena, Aditya Thackeray was popularly criticized by the dean of St. Xavier College for his immaturity at handling a book written against politics by an alumni, Rohinton Mistry.

The book ‘such a Long Journey‘, was shortlisted for the prestigious, Booker Prize, and Mistry is one of the proudest alumni’s of the University. However, members of the Shiv Sena, the political party under the Thackerays, are burning copies of the book to show their disagreement with it. One of students also asked another college in Mumbai to take the book off their syllabus.

The Dean‘s opinion was, “It is inconceivable that in the 21st century, a political party will not show the maturity to accept criticism and answer it by the evidence of its own actions. Is it not unreasonable, that literature is banned, merely because it dares to critique us? St. Xavier’s College regrets that this book, written by an alumnus, and widely acclaimed in the literary world, has been treated in this manner.”

exciting moments

On October 2, I have played my best football game ever. I played offense, defense, and kick return receiver.

While playing cornerback, I made some decent tackles. Tackling is always my weakest skill, but as I practice hard and gain more experience during games, I feel that I have improved my tackling skill. I have overcome my fear of hitting people, so now I just need to make sure that I am able to tackle them down when I first hit them.

a no hitter and a good anecdote

Hello one and all! It’s October, and that means three things, Halloween, Spudfest, and most of all, Major League Baseball’s fall classic. The postseason is here, and needless to say it is my favorite time of the year. Today, October 6th, the major league playoffs kicked off in grand fashion. Two Game 1 contests took place today and one (featuring my beloved Yankees) is in progress. Now, I have to mention something, even though I as a sportsman and fan hate Philadelphia sports teams, I have to tip my cap to Phillies Game 1 starting pitcher, Roy Halladay.

What did this 13 year veteran do in his first playoff start of his career? Oh nothing, except throw the second post season no hitter in MLB history. He walked one, struck out 8, and surrendered no hits. That’s pretty impressive and being that it’s in the playoffs is no exception. Today also marked the first time I rooted for Philadelphia in anything since Rocky Balboa fought Mason Dixon, but that’s another story. Any Phillie fan will tell you game 1 meant on the first day of “Doctober,” it was a Halladay in Philly.

This no hitter also meant something special for an OVS student. Sophomore John Olivo, a.k.a “the situation,” is a Phillie fan. I watched the game with him, and my friends Cameron Cuthbert, Rory Campbell, Grant Spencer, and Kyle Stephenson. Now, Kyle and John have a history. Yesterday during a dodgeball game, John tackled Kyle, and Kyle saw John coming. He straight up decked him, “lights out.” For all the trash Kyle was talking, it was pretty worth while to watch. It was both funny and unpredictable. We ordered Domino’s Pizza and were coming up with a decision as to how we were going to pay, so I make a bet. “If Halladay throws a no hitter, Kyle has to cover it all.” This meant 3 large pizzas and 3 sides. We’re boys, come on, we’re hungry. Watching Brandon Phillips ground out to Carlos Ruiz meant Kyle was paying, history was made, and the Phillies won game 1.

Plus my lady friend in Boston Stephanie is a huge Phillie fan as well. I called her after the game and she said she loved me. SCORE!

read this in honor

This is just sickening. Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi is dead by a terrible cause. Has the world no decency? A boy in Texas and another in California have also tragically ended their lives in despair brought on by intolerance and bullying. This is why this needs to be taken seriously.

Julia Roberts adopts Hinduism

At one point being the most highly paid and top actress in Hollywood, Julia Roberts is now a practicing Hindu. The 42-year-old gorgeous, Oscar-winning actress, who owned the hearts of millions with her performance in Pretty Woman, says she goes to the temple with her family to “chant, pray and celebrate.”

Julia Roberts took to Hinduism during her performance in, Eat, Pray, Love, for which she travelled to India and visited the ashrams for spirituality. Roberts also brought her three children along with her to experience the  calm and the peace.

Swami Dharamdev of the Hari Mandir, where Eat, Pray, Love was shot, said that prior to leaving for Bali for rest of the movie, Roberts requested the priest to pray for her mother. Her mother had been ill for a while.  The Priest recalls telling her that ” she may choose not to eat or love, but don’t forget to pray. Make that an integral part of your life, not acting in this film.” Roberts smiled and nodded affirmatively

78 Year Old Shirley-It’s never too late.

You’re always told it’s never too late, yet who believes it. Even now at the age of 16 I numerously find my self saying it’s too late. It’s one of those great excuses we begin to use, as we grow older. An excuse placed in fear of looking foolish or embarrassing ourselves, subsequently a fear of failure.

Countless times the old wise tale has been proven incorrect yet we continue to believe it.  Today that perception changed as I read the inspiring story of an O.A.P.

Before I tell the story I belief I should explain the term O.A.P. An O.A.P or old age pensioner is someone past the age of 65. In Britain this is retiring age. Once you reach this age you reap numerous benefits in order to provide care and support for you in your final years. These include free public transport, discounted prices, and of course the all important pension.

Unstoppable

I tried. My sister, Woo Jung Park who is a sixth grader at Pakmun Elementary School in South Korea, started dancing much later than the starting ages of any other dancers. For nearly two years, I unsuccessfully attempted to divert her attention from the Korean Traditional Dance.

I agree with her that dance is a magical experience. It allows one to portray the inner mind beautifully with the heart-throbbing moves. Nonetheless, there are disadvantages. During the summer, I could not resist my frowning at her swollen and nearly deformed feet. I clearly did not want my sister to debilitate both mentally and physically. Then, a single day has revolutionized my mind.
