Get Your Soulwax…ed?

Where to begin? This legendary Belgian DJ duo and their band headline every show they attend. Very few can create sounds as beautifully distant nor as overpoweringly raw in a DJ set, much less with a live band. The Dewaele brothers do just that.

The auxiliary percussion could only be described as janky in the best way possible. In other words, they just totally pull it off. I have no idea how else to describe this to you.

Their ubiquitous remixes add a distinctive and palpable energy to just about any song, and their album Much Against Everyone’s Advice has something that is sure to please ambient indie lovers as much as electronic connoisseurs. You’ll have to hear Soulwax yourself before you can truly understand why they are electronic music gods.

BetatraXx the Alpha Dog

There is nothing inappropriate about Gotta Dance Dirty. Believe it or not, it’s the undisputed largest and most respected blog in the west coast electronic music scene. So to kick off their new management label, they had to find someone spectacular. They had to find one of the craftiest, most cutting edge new DJ’s around. In my mind, they nailed it by signing Tim Nelson, aka BetatraXx.

Formerly Redlight, BetatraXx is the epitome of modern electro-house. Raised on Pro Tools, he is one of the first young DJ’s that hasn’t needed to make an awkward transition from a live band or turntables. Everything you hear from him is raw, unadulterated electronic music.

For the past four years he attended college on the east coast, and needed a fake ID to DJ at some of New York’s biggest clubs. Originally from Santa Barbara, Nelson recently finished up his first west coast tour. Under the new California based GDD label, it shouldn’t be your last chance to see him in the Golden State.

In Gotta Dance Dirty’s recent exclusive interview, he had this to say:
“The West coast is unmatched. Love it out here. And you guys are the center of good music. What more could I want?”
Couldn’t agree more, sir.

The Full English.

It’s a Sunday morning. As the suns rays enlighten your bed, you realize it’s about time to get up. The fact that there are no worries because it’s a Sunday makes you feel blissfully happy, nothing could make this day any better. Oh you’ve spoken to soon. Slipping out of your bed you are enlightened by the sweet, smoky scent of bacon wafting through the door. Moving into the kitchen you see a ravishing ensemble consisting of: bacon, eggs, sausages, beans, toast, mushrooms, hash browns and some simple grilled tomato. Delicious, a gastronomical extravagance.

The Full English is a dish that is traditionally English. Mainly eaten at weekends as a treat it has now found its way worldwide due to its great excellence. Many places have even taken up the tradition of serving it all day, as the demand for a cooked breakfast is extremely high.

Party like it’s 1997

Renteria with the trophy
For Edgar Renteria, life up until this past postseason was one of nostalgia, and uncertainty. A player for 5 different teams up until he was a San Francisco Giant, the Colombian shortstop was contemplating retirement after this season.

Renteria has had quite the World Series history. Up until Brain Wilson struck out Nelson Cruz to bring the first championship since 1954 back to the organization, it had been exactly 4,755 days since a 22 year old Renteria poked a line drive just over the glove of Cleveland reliever Charles Nagy to win the 1997 world series.

Renteria was a known castoff since his last World Series exploit in 2004, when he grounded out to Keith Foulke to end the RedSox’s 86 year World Series “curse” as the massholes call it.

respectful

On November 3, 2010, OVS has the pleasure to hold the last Cross Country meet. Eight schools involved in the final meet, Thacher, Cate, Midland, Besant Hill, Laguna Blanca, Dunn, Cornerstone Chistian, and OVS.

About a hundred of athletes are waiting down at the big field under a big hot sunny day. Other students in OVS besides the runners are required to help point the direction for the route in several places. My friends and I were assigned at the entrance of the Meditation Mount, where we can see the runners running up the hill one by one.

Although I participated in other sports, I felt a high level of respect to the runners because I don’t think I have the willpower to finish such a long exhausted race in such a short time.

She’s a Beauty

She is a beauty. Her skin is a flawless, radiant white. Sometimes she is shy and shields her lips but sometimes she is bold, and opens her mouth; a striking red is revealed. She is all looks and she is all brains. She can make precise calculations and she will never be lost. She is a good listener, very obedient, and will do what she is told. But boy oh boy, can she sing. She can belt out notes at the top of her lungs, and she can hum a tune. Her voice is one that makes her peers quiver with envy. She is very athletic, she can run fast and she can run with grace. She is talented. She is perfect. She is the car of my dreams.

BMW 335i red leather

The BMW 335i hardtop convertible is the car for me. Just the other day, I was setting up an appointment for my behind-the-wheel test at the DMV, and I was thinking about my future car. Only one car came to mind.

A year ago, while I was walking through a BMW dealership, a certain hardtop convertible had caught my eye and stole my heart.

Brilliant Bale

Although I support Manchester United, a fantastic player by the name of Gareth Bale of Tottenham Hotspurs deserves some recognition.

Gareth Bale

The 21 year old Welshman has quickly risen to stardom, scoring 7 goals so far in the 18 games he has played. But much more than the number of goals he has is his intensity and is cleverness. He is an extremely bright player, quick to hit the right ball and even quicker to beat an opposing player. He is exactly the type of player football needs. He is young, plays aggressive, yet possession football and is a great ambassador for the sport. He is well spoken, intelligent and has not done anything stupid yet. He started as a leftback, but has moved up to a left winger role. He hits crisp crosses, snappy one touch balls and has a blistering shot.

We are little Britain

Britain is unbelievably the ninth largest island in the world. It is an island that consists of the weird yet wonderful. It may be small but it’s definitely not short of entertainment. Walk around the streets of London and you are bound to see something obscene, something that will make you shocked, smile or laugh.

Stereotypes are common, yet rare. With a population of around 60 million, the island is definitely overflowing with entertainment. We as citizens acknowledge the uniqueness of the kingdom, priding it for it’s distinctive character.

Those strange citizens among us are free to be who they want to be, living free without any restraints. This is partially because of the extremely open and accepting nature of the country, but also because of the endless possibilities the island offers us. Britain is home to all sorts of oddballs. Put it this way, there is no way of determining the normal character. Everyone is too different.

As they say the people are what make a party and it’s the diverse citizens of Britain that makes us what we are. Great.

We are little Britain.

Here is a clip to show you some of the great citizens of our country. I hope you enjoy.

Kindled Spirit

People all around the world are raving about the Kindle or Kindle for iPad. They get unbelievably excited about reading a book off a bright LED screen, and it makes me want to cry.

Yes, the Kindle is helping reduce the amount of trees being cut down for paper, but the batteries they use will eventually die. Those dead batteries, when thrown away, will be sent to a landfill or be buried underneath some great big hill, or be disposed of by shooting them far away into the freaking space-time continuum.

‘Art Crime’

Graffiti

Are you an artist? What’s your medium? Music? Pencil and Paper? A bottle of spray paint and the South wall of your local bank? How many times have you been condemned for expressing you art? All of these questions are risen in my mind by two words, “Art Crime.”

A photograph can be argued over because it depicts a man laying naked with another man or it shows a woman dressed in torn, wet, fishnet tights and a ripped corset with make up leaking down her cheeks, holding a bottle of Whiskey, walking down the dark streets of San Fransisco. People get offended by images that show truths that most of us are unwilling to accept. That’s called provoking emotion. That is the sole purpose of art, to provoke emotion. So why is it that some art forms are illegal?

It’s true that some graffiti isn’t very pleasant to look at like gang tags and stupid anarchy signs that morons use to “mark their territory.” But, I literally don’t see anything wrong with the graffiti art that posted around the world. I mean the graffiti that actually has meaning and shape and colors and creativity. I don’t get what the big deal is. Graffiti is just painting but instead of using a canvas you use a building or a billboard or something like that. It’s just another way for artists to express their, well…..artistry.
