Fall

I see the beauty of the trees, the different colors resembling a different time of their lives, the green symbolizing youth, the yellow and red signaling age, and finally the brown falling so fast yet so slow as the tree has finally lost all of its leaves. I believe this relates to the cycle of life. It is truly beautiful, and with time, I have begun to see my father’s hair grow grey and my mother’s smile lines run deeper in her cheeks. As for me, I see small changes, such as my voice getting deeper or having to draw another dash on the wall to show how tall I have gotten. Fall always lets me know the year will soon be over, as the trees are a constant reminder of a cycle every individual goes through. I find it difficult to keep track of the years that have gone by, but inevitably I will have to face it one season at a time, one leaf at a time, as we all move through our own personal cycle of growth and change.

Skin

Ever since I was a little kid I have struggled with skin issues. My skin is extremely sensitive, I am allergic to things such as fragrance, parabens, and a lot more ingredients that I can’t even pronounce. I can’t wear perfume, I have to double check ingredients lists, I need ultra sensitive laundry detergent. Living in a sensitivity bubble has affected how I live my day to day life. I live in fear of waking up with a rash on my face. I have lived this reality too many times, waking up with a dry, red, painful allergic reaction, not knowing what caused it. Not only is my skin sensitive but I have also struggled with acne since 6th grade. Multiple trips to the dermatologists office with no end in sight. The options I was given, eating healthier, going on accutane or starting tretinoin. I already eat a balanced diet. Accutane has side effects that will follow you throughout life; back pain, dry skin to the point where your skin cracks, liver failure and a plethora of other issues. Tretinoin makes your face extremely sensitive to the sun and causes your face to be extremely dry. The options that I were given would not help me and so it only got worse. Throughout middle school and into high school my skin was my biggest insecurity. I have learned to love my skin for how it looks, I do have my off days where I am more insecure but I refuse to let something I cannot change impact me for the rest of my life.

The Rich and Their Paintings

Why do the rich bid so much on paintings? Some of these paintings go for millions for dollars but don’t even look like they should cost that much. Yes, we have to give credit to the people who make these paintings and the hard that goes into making them but the prices that they go for are at times outrageous.

Some of these paintings aren’t even good just a blob of red paint yet it goes for at least $50 million, and just to sit in some rich person’s mansion. I agree that people can do what they want with their money, but there are way better things to spend $50 million on.

Most of the money spent on these paintings can be used to help fund research for medical diseases or help fund food for people living under food insecurity. Although some people do this there are a lot of rich people who only care about themselves and objects rather than actually using there money to help other people in the world. They have enough money to help them for several lifetimes if they can spend more than $50million on paintings, then they can spend double to help people in need.

A Familiar Feeling

There is something so healing and comforting about that feeling of being able to truly be yourself with someone. You are so similar in so many aspects while being two different people.  You can talk about even the smallest of things that can turn into hour-long tangents. You never stop laughing and smiling together. Spend hours poking fun at each other without seeing it as an insult but rather as another commonality between you. Formed inside jokes that will live on for a lifetime. I felt as though I could tell them things that barely anyone knows and yet still know that it is safe with them. It’s so comforting to feel that sense of being heard and understood because you truly are almost the same. Even beneath those small differences, you are able to see their perspectives and agree, so are they really differences? Being able to have this connection with someone truly is a rare experience. It’s not about finding someone who is exactly like you but understands you without explanation. The relationship is effortless rather than a burden or energy- using. In this world filled with acquaintances, finding ones who understand and accept you for you should be truly valued and held onto for a lifetime.

Boxes

I don’t want to move, it’s not fair. I know this sounds like a stereotypical response from a kid when they are told they are moving, but it’s true I don’t want to move, and the fact that I have to isn’t fair. It’s not like I’m moving with my parents because they got new jobs, or because I am going to a different school. In fact, it is the complete opposite; I am moving because my parents couldn’t get it together. I have lived with my grandparents since I was four and a half, and I can’t remember anything but that. We didn’t move in with my grandparents because they needed assistance or help; we moved in because my parents couldn’t financially support us anymore, and while it was only supposed to be for six months, that turned into thirteen and a half years. I am so angry because if it wasn’t for them, I could stay in my home, in my town, with my best friend, with my other family, and in a place that I may not always be in but feels safe and stable. I don’t want to move to Virginia. I have nothing and nobody there; the only thing I have in that town is my brother’s college that he has already graduated from. I hate that I feel like I’m being dramatic; I know I’m not, and I know I am valid for feeling what I am, but I also feel like, in an odd way, I knew this would happen one day, so why am I so upset if I was prepared for it? It feels like I am being suffocated by this situation, like every day it is getting closer and closer, and I’m getting less and less control. I know I won’t be there a lot with college coming up, but I don’t ever want to be there; I want to be at home in my room, in my house. I can’t live with my dad, and I won’t live with my mom, and so I know I don’t have options here, and yes, much worse things could be happening; it is just so frustrating to think about because if they had gotten it together for themselves and for me, I wouldn’t have to move to the middle of no where, Lexington, Virginia. I don’t want to pack my life into a bunch of boxes because it feels like it doesn’t do my life justice, my life is so much more than what is being packed away into those boxes. So much more happened in that house that shaped me as a person than what can be shoved in those boxes. I don’t want to accept that it is happening; I don’t want to come to terms with he fact that my parents couldn’t and didn’t get it together for me; they didn’t care enough to get it together for me, and it sucks.

Working with others

Working with others has never been my strong suit. Im not a very forward or demanding person so I often get flooded out by others.

As of late I have started as a trainer in a mustang program at the barn that I have my horse Apollo at. Im the youngest trainer that they have. Im surrounded by people who have been working with horses for longer than I have been alive. It’s easy to be overlooked in the program, lots of the people think that since im a 17 year old girl that I have no clue what im talking about. In reality im one of few people who has really worked and trained a mustang before. I have valuable information to give but they just won’t hear it.

In the program there are supposed to be trainers, the higher ups who know more about horses and mustang training. Then there are the volunteers, they get a set amount of hours a week to come and hang out with the horses. Right now the program is over-run with volunteers that have no idea what they are doing, it’s dangerous for the horses and the volunteers themself. Lots of the volunteers are also older than me so they also try to push me and my knowledge down.

Working with other people that treat you like a child that just started walking is hard. I work with the mentality that im doing it for the horses and not the people.

Earth

I don’t think that Earth is a real place. Well, obviously it is real, but thinking deeply about it gives me anxiety and also the creeps. What do you mean we are on a floating rock in the middle of the dark, cold universe? None of it makes sense to me because this was never something that humans were supposed to know. How did we even figure out we can leave the planet.

Sometimes I walk down the street and notice certain people that actually ust dont seem real at all. It’s frightenting but its something I believe. It’s so interesting how humans created the life we had today. We made the Earth ours, killing species, putting oil and bad things into the Earth, basically ruining it. When there are such high class people that can control other people but then theres starving people who would do anything for water. You never know how priveleged you really are until you experience someone elses pain.

The.. Actual Last Performance

October 24th, 2026 was the last performance of My Chemical Romance’s ‘Long Live The Black Parade’ tour (going to be abbreviated to LLTBP), and I am extremely grateful I was there for it.

The concert isn’t like any normal concert where the bands go on stage and play their hit songs. MCR did that during their Swarm Tour back in 2022-2023, and previous tours before then, but this time around, they gave out a theatrical performance of their album ‘The Black Parade’., telling not the story of the album, but the story of a band that came from the fictional country of Draag, in order to take over America by pleasing the people.

The show has a lot of political commentary due to current events that are currently happening, but was hidden by the performance and would require deeper digging for people to see what it actually means.

I had the joy of bringing my friend, Airadonya, and my younger, 9 year old brother, William, to this concert, along with my mom. I was somewhat worried with my brother, since he is nine, and nine year old’s aren’t known for the longest attention span, and how he would crash before we made it to the encore. However, he made it through the concert, and he said he loved it and thought it was cool.

Needless to say, I thought the entire tour was amazing, from the storytelling, to the acting, to the dedication the band put into telling the story of a corrupt government trying to influence other countries with a band that’s their mascots, and the commitment to the bit, I thought it was a great story and I’m sad to see that this era is over. From seeing them at When We Were Young at Las Vegas in 2024, to seeing them at Dodger Stadium in 2025, to this last weekend, I’m extremely grateful for the times my favorite band.

Fast Food or Expensive Food?

Often times when we go out we want to stop and get a quick meal from a fast food joint. It is a way from many people to get something good to east at a somewhat lower price when you might be strapped for cash. While fast food is a convenient way to get food on the road the price of most of these places as been constantly increased making most people unable to have these meals as much as they might have liked.

Once upon a time in the 1990 fast food joints like Mcdonalds used to have meals that cost under $2 but now as the economy has shifted and price of living has become higher the price of those same meals have increased jumping up to $10. This drastic jump in price will only continue to rise as inflation continues to rise.

There is no sign that inflation will drop anytime soon as especially in the US the current people in office aren’t doing anything to stop the problem. If fast food that used to cost under $2 has now increased by 400 percent it is clear that over time people living under minimum wage won’t be able to afford these meals that used to be easier to purchase.

Fall

One of the things I miss most about New York is that we have four seasons, but most of all, I miss real fall. I miss the cold, crisp air whipping through my hair, the vibrant and colorful trees and leaves, and the falling acorns and pinecones. I especially miss being with my grandma during the fall. Every year before I came to OVS, we would walk through my neighborhood and collect all kinds of beautiful leaves, pinecones, and acorns to take home and use them to create some fall decor in our house. I remember my first year at OVS, I would call my grandma so much complaining about how much I miss real fall that she sent me leaves she collected around the neighborhood, pressed them, and then dipped them in wax to make sure they didn’t die. I still have the box with those leaves to this day, and in the box I have added other objects that are valuable to me. I cherish this box more than anything I own; it is now filled with memories of those I love and meaningful things they have given me. I miss fall not only for the leaves and the crisp winds but for the memories I have with my grandma and the time we would spend together.
