Silence

Silence.

The beginning and the end.

Space is filled with it.

ever-expanding and growing.

I can’t stand silence.

It makes me itch, uncomfortable in my own skin.

I grasp for the smallest of sounds, but only silence remains.

we take sound for granted, yet some who live without it miss out.

Though we have learned to repair this.

What I would give to hear sound for the first time again.

The Nike Roshe Run

I recently picked up a pair of Nike Roshe Runs, a purchase I have been contemplating for a very long time, and I think I have come across one of the most comfortable sneakers of all time.

These things are like clouds for your feet. It isn’t even funny. I have a hard time taking them off. I got them in black and white, a color combination that has been notoriously hard to find, for the relatively cheap price of $50.

For that price they are really worth it and more. I will be getting more in the future.

And yes they come in a multitude of colors and materials.

To the sea

Ever since I was a little boy I wanted to explore the sea. Today I got my chance. I got into my skin tight waterproof suit and entered my sub.

I went deeper and deeper seeing the assortment of aquatic life next to me. The blue water slowly obscuring the sun and becoming black.

Animals the size of buildings would drift by as I explored this brand new ocean. Schools of fish would surround my vessel as I sat in wonder at the sights and sounds.

Deeper I go into the blackness. Arrays of light from bioluminescent creatures illuminate the sub at this level. The pressure down here is incredible from the huge weight of water above me.

A single angler fish appears in front of me its horrifying appearance is unique to this part of the ocean.

The bottom welcomes me as i give light to something that has never seen the sun, yet it has evolved and matured to become a thriving ecosystem.

I am always amazed at the way life can live in the most dangerous of places.

The Night

A peer out my window shows clearly that night has fallen.

A group of faintly lit points in the sky are shining.

The moon illuminates the water stretching endlessly to the west.

I sit in my bed thinking about life on the other side of the globe.

Where there is day while here there is only night.

A coyote howls for its friends outside my window.

Goosebumps go down my spine.

I roll over and close my eyes and slowly drift into sleep, Hoping to be greeted by the day.

Happy 50th Birthday MJ. A Jordan 1 Retrospective.

The black and red Jordan 1. What can I say. The start of a huge following. A legend.

The Air Jordan experiment. Nike gave a rookie a shoe deal and started the Jordan bad boy persona.

Michael Jordan was fined $5000 every game he wore these, and nike happily paid the fine. Banned. It made waves across the country. People wanted to be like Mike.

An original pair of the jordan 1 in this color goes for thousands.
This weekend the Royal Jordan 1 released again.

A classic in its own right this take on the classic black and red color blocking. I among many love this colorway just as much. Happy birthday MJ. You truly are the best of all time.

A Journey Through the Woods.

I grabbed my machete and sprinted into the woods. I had no time left. My camp had been overrun by those… things. It was no use staying and fighting at this point we had already lost. I had a compass, machete, the clothes on my back, and the wilderness at my disposal.

It was time to run. I needed to work my way into the valley near camp. The terrain was marshy and wet after the rain. My boots sunk deeper into the ground after every step.

The monsters dwelled in the shadows and never tired, but they operated and navigated by smell so in the rain it was hard for them to find me.

A flash of movement appeared to my left and I struck with my machete. It left a splash of silvery blood on my blade. Where had these things come from and why did they want us. Their regenerative abilities make them the perfect hunter.

We weren’t prepared. If there is an apocalypse this is it.

I don’t know what we did wrong. I am the last one left and I am stuck in a cave in the middle of nowhere running from the unknown, sharpening my machete.

War

My name is not important, but it will be. I will stand in front of an army of thousands and watch empires fall. But that is not where this story starts.

We must move past the burning dart, and the ruins of Rome. I am Caesar and Alexander the Great. I led the armies of barbarians against my empire, and I destroyed what I had helped build.

I am locked in a battle with a younger more ambitious spirit. Limitless power emphasizes the qualities of a man, the good and the bad.

I was the first omnipotent being, my only son is the other. Time became our battleground. He grew corrupt with his power, and so did I.

Countless lives were lost.

And now I stand here at the end of the universe staring my enemy in the eye, and I can’t help but feel that this was just a matter of misplaced emotion. We could have stopped this.

Adrift

I am adrift at sea, each wave weakens my already weak raft. Every gust of wind feels like it may be my last. I am running out of water. Land is still not in sight.

I am out of water. I may have one more day left. I am writing this note on the last piece of paper I have. hopefully someone finds it.

Help.

10 years later this note arrives on a shore in California. A man picks it up and reads it. He recognizes his own hand writing immediately. He rips up the note and throws the bottle out to sea to get swallowed by the waves.

A Proper Retro

The sneaker release that I am most excited for this year is The 88′ Retro White Cement Jordan 3. By far. This is a proper retro release featuring a “nike air” on the back tab. That single detail is what makes this sneaker special. Up until 2001 all Retro Jordans featured that detail on the back.

After that year the Nike air was replaced by the Jordan jumpman logo. The nike air is original. Iconic. Necessary. It represents everything Michael Jordan did in that sneaker. From the Spike Lee “Mars Blackmon” ads to the dunk competition.
This is the biggest release for 2013.

I will be camping by my computer at 5:30 to get one of these off of Nike.com and will either be extremely happy or sad that day.

And now is the time for disappointment. “Nike Air” comes at a price, $200. a 40 dollar jump from the previous release. The quality is no better, but it is better than the $400 they will go for on ebay the next day.

The struggles of somebody that loves sneakers.

Great Structures

A small sapling planted in the ground staring up at the sky and its giant sequoia brethren. Nature develops huge structures through light, carbon dioxide, and water. The forests of the world began as small seeds that became these massive structures.

This is a fitting metaphor for the human experience because everyone around us used to be a microscopic organism in the womb of your mother. We all have a personality and individual experiences, but we all started from the same place.

We built giant cities that rivaled the massive sequoias, built with steel and machinery, but in 200 years which will remain. Will the huge industrial structures of today or the ancient structures that are trees.
