The iPhone Craze

Ever since the rumors of the iPhone developed, the iPhone has been the phone of phones. At least it has in my world
p
For my birthday, I received my first apple product. My dad bought me a black iPhone 4. Needless to stay I was ecstatic, and the little gadget very quickly became a basic function of life for me. Everywhere I went it came in handy. When I needed directions back to school, it was there. When I needed YouTube and guitar tabs to learn a song, it was there. It’s practically come in handy with every situation that I have ever found myself in. Not to mention the thousand of applications available. I must say that I am a fan of “Pocket Frogs” and “Urban Spoon.” I don’t mean to broadcast apps for any certain reason either. I’m just saying that if you have the chance, their free and you should download them.

If you don’t have one now, I recommend you get one. They will be a fantastic new toy for anyone.

Dia De Los Muertos

P1010184
On Friday , after lunch, my AP Spanish class headed down to the pool area to celebrate the Mexican holiday Dia De Los Muertos. Kids from lower campus came up as well, we integrated as a group and had fun learning about the culture behind Dia De Los Muertos.
This holiday celebrates both the fullness of life, and life after death. People bring flowers to the graves of their loved ones along with music to remember them. Their spirit is said to be present during the celebration, and families become reunited once again in happiness.
For our celebration we decorated sugar skulls with colored icing. Everyone had a lot of fun bringing out their artistic sides with the decorating. In addition, the spanish classes have created “offrendas” , or offerings, dedicated to loved ones that have been lost. The offerings and alters will be set up in the library in the next couple of days for people to pay respect, and visit. I think that we should do more activities like this because it brings together the upper and lower campuses in a fun way. Sometimes i feel like we stand so separately as campuses, and it is activities like this that bring us together as one “Ojai Valley School.”

X-Woman

We all enjoy a good laugh every once in a while. So, we result to looking up hilarious videos on Youtube or sometimes even look up weird news articles. Well, while I was searching for entertainment I stumbled upon what is probably the most unbelievable story I’ve read. But, here’s the thing, it’s the kind of unbelievable that’s so ridiculous you wonder if it could be true. You think, “There’s no way that’s real!” but, then that little voice in the back of head says, “How do you know it’s not?”

Here’s the story: A 40 year old woman from Indonesia is supposedly growing metal rods FROM HER BODY!

(Taken from funnymos.com)

Okay, take a second. Is your little voice going off? See! I’m not the only one. I mean what are we supposed to believe? The picture is right there! The article says that this woman has been growing these wires out of her for 18 years. She says that sometimes they will “retract back into her” and then pop up in a different area on her body.

It makes you wonder whether or not this woman staged the whole thing just to get recognized. Then it brings you back to the “Tree Man” who seems to literally be made up of tree trunks. So, maybe there is such thing as a metal filled woman who continues to grow such metal out of her skin. The article even says that doctors believe that this anomaly is not a publicity stunt, but a true story. How weird!!!!

TechNO

Ladies and gentlemen, the past few days have been pretty frustrating. Thanks to Ojai Valley School‘s extremely poor Internet service, I have been unable to write anything on this blog for quite a while.

Either way, I’m back. Now, even though the past few games of the world series have been pretty interesting to say the least, I will not be writing about sports tonight. Rather, this blog will be more on the venting side. I need to blow off steam.
Music has always been a thing that I have enjoyed throughout the years, no question, yet every couple of months, I find myself swigging cokes on a sofa during a school dance and saying one thing, “Jesus, this really sucks doesn’t it?” That last statement was censored by the way.

Halloween

In order to welcome Halloween, the OVS student council decided to hold a Halloween haunting tour. We spent few hundred dollars buying costumes and props. However, we didn’t charge the students ay money to take the tour.

The tour began at the courtyard at Friday night, where a mad pianist was playing horrifying music while several zombies were eating dead bodies waiting for new victims to come. After facing the terrifying zombies, a werewolf and the guy from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre were waiting to scare on their way down to the amphitheater.

At the amphitheater, two crazy scientists had just lost control of a ferocious Frankenstein. After escaping from Frankenstein, the survivors stepped into the pool area, which was Death’s territory. The Death and a haunting ghost are trying to take the survivors lives away.

The whole scary adventure was a welcome surprise for the entire school and provide a scary for Halloween.

Lights

I’ve been to plenty of concerts in the last couple of years. From Gwen Stefani and the Black Eyed Peas to Attack Attack, I’ve made my way around San Francisco’s music scene. After attending the Bridge School Benefit Concert last weekend, I went with another friend to go see an small, Canadian girl perform at Slims. Seeing Lights was by far the best show that I’ve seen.

Lights

333 11th Avenue, San Francisco. I could almost call Slims my second home. I’ve seen friends play on that stage as well as large-scale bands. The small, but mighty, stage also has one other title that no other stage can hold, the host of the best show that I have yet to see.

Battle of the Sexy

In all the time that television has existed there has been controversy about the overexposure of actors (mostly female) to their youthful fans. Their careers start out with a bubblegum pop image and then as soon as their fan-base grows to over a million the bomb drops; racy photos and videos that leave us flabbergasted.

Glee - GQ

Everyone remembers the concern parents had when Britney Spears went from Mickey Mouse Club princess to “not that innocent.”

And we can all recognize the semi nude photos taken of Miley Cyrus that were leaked out to the public and even the ones that aired in last years November issue of Marie Claire.

But, this year’s big dispute involves everyone’s favorite singing superstars: the cast of Glee.

Bridge School

Bridge School

Last weekend I went home to San Francisco, or more specifically, Hillsborough, California. I attended two out of three elementary schools, one being called “North School” while living in Hillsborough. At North, each student was required to help out in some sort of community activity such as helping out with the lower grades or working at the Bridge School. I was one of the very few in my class to choose the Bridge School.

The Bridge School was not something you’d find at an average elementary school. The definition provided on the website “a non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that individuals with severe speech and physical impairments achieve full participation in their communities through the use of augmentative & alternative means of communication (AAC) and assistive technology (AT) applications and through the development, implementation and dissemination of innovative life-long educational strategies.” I have vivid memories of working with a girl who had a tube through her belly button so she could eat, and a boy who could not speak or walk. I worked mostly with the boy, hand feeding him, playing with him, and reading to him. I was ten, and he was thirteen, but I felt like we were on the same page. I’m not sure about what happened to him after I graduated, and I’m not sure if he’d remember me, but I do know that I’ll always remember him.

A Tad Disappointing

In a previous post I mentioned my love for The Lion King. I have seen it live once before when I was younger, but I do not remember much of it. Tonight I saw it again in Las Vegas, and too say the least, it was a little upsetting. The first act reined almost completely true to the actual script, and parts of it were extremely beautiful. However, it was the second act when it all spiraled downward.

Not only did it add and take out parts of the original script, but one of the most memorable parts (for me, anyways) was completely ruined. Scar was on stage with Zazu, who was locked in his cage of bones. In the movie, Zazu went from singing “Nobody Knows” to “It’s a Small World” to “I’ve Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts.” It was all rather hilarious and it is one of my favorite parts of the entire movie.
