Two Door Cinema Club- Just some British Music.

Last night, the 25th of September, Two door Cinema Club arrived in Brighton to play their first gig in the city.  Luckily I was fortunate enough to be among the crowd in the small venue that they call Digital.

Two Door Cinema Club is an up coming indie/electro band from Ireland releasing their fist album, Tourist History on march the 1st 2010. Signed to Kisune Music the band are on their first sell out tour spreading their individual sound worldwide.

The band consists of members: Alex Trimble, Sam Halliday and Kevin Baird accompanied by Benjamin Thompson who acted as an additional member for there tour playing drums.

Indie music is extremely popular in England and Two Door Cinema Club are just reaching their boom.  They have an extremely good reputation for providing a great live concert and they did not fail to disappoint.

The band was amazing and the two support acts : We Have Band and Kowalski also impressed with their unique styles and excellent crowd control.

Indie music is a great genre and one I think should be encouraged more in the U.S.

Here’s a taster of their music, I hope you like it.

News. What is news? We’re supposed to report on it. We’re supposed to read it and understand what it means. We’re supposed to find it interesting, enthralling. There are many things we’re supposed to do, but we rarely ever do them. We rarely ever do what is expected. What is important. What is truly needed. We confuse need with want, and want with need. We confuse many things, but we never admit to it. We’re always sure, and always insitent on any little thought that pops into our minds. But do we ever really know? How do we know what is truth or fiction? Many of the things we read in history books aren’t true! We’re lied to all of our lives and we accept it because someone of more authority than us told us to believe it. And we do believe it. We take what we are told and follow blindly. How will our world survive in the future, if our fact is fiction and our fiction is actually fact. Will books change? Will old movies or ancient myths or stories? What’s news? Is it actually new information? Or is it something that someone “important” deems necessary for the world to know? What is news?

When will Lindsay Lohan Learn?

Wow wow wow, everybody stop what they’re doing.   I just found out that Lindsay Lohan just got out of temporary custody. This is huge news.  I’m so happy that websites like “The Superficial” (whose slogan is “Because you’re ugly”) report on important matters just like this one.  Now the issue  is not that celebrity gossip websites like “The Superficial” reporting on “news” like this. The problem I have with it is that some people visit these sights religiously and treat them like they are news.  If anyone can justify that Snooki was just on The David Letterman Show as front-page news, then something is wrong with him.

I personally get my news from “The Los Angeles Times,” because I find it to be a reliable news site. But just today, it pulled a “Perez Hilton.”   Along with news about who is wining the race for Governor and the current state of Mexico’s drug war, was the story about Lindsay Lohan. I was so disappointed to see this. I always try to have my news 100% gossip free, but there it was. The same story that I saw in “The Superficial.”    Not to discredit this website, and countless others like it, but I really have to ask the question: “Who cares?”

Turbulence.

Its always hard to know what to write in the best of circumstances, but I can now say flying through turbulence is not the best of situations to type. As I sit here on an Air United flight returning to my home country I search for inspiration for my blog.

Two and a half hours, 1 in flight meal, 1 movie and a laptop: the definition of a lazy day, if not for the fact I’m stuck on a plane. The situation almost has potential to be fun however the enjoyment is diminished by the imposed nature of the situation.

Turbulence is not fun.

Currently I’m extremely thankful that the in flight meal was received half an hour ago and that I ate it promptly otherwise I could currently be sitting in a bed of curry, if you could even call it that. How ironic is this, the whole month I spent in Southern California I never saw one curry house yet our in flight meal is a curry.  So the in flight meal supplies us with a brilliant topic for my blog. Curry.

Curry is a popular dish world wide, except from Ojai, and especially in England. In fact in a survey recently taken they found out the favorite dish of the English is Chicken Tikka Masala . Maybe that’s because we are now full of Indian immigrants or because it’s tasty.  I can definitely say the curry in England is delicious and is nothing like that in India. Which is slightly odd.

So if ever visiting England why not go against the stereotypical fish and chips and have a curry.

Wanna-be Gingers

Recently a very well known celebrity decided to attempt the ginger look, and failed. Rihanna, the well-known pop star from the Barbados, was found to be sporting her new fiery hair at boyfriend Matt Kemp’s birthday party and even at Katy Perry’s bachelorette party. Who would’ve thought that a woman with naturally dark skin would choose fire hydrant red as a hair color? Surprisingly the crowd that voted on celebuzz.com chose “Yay – it’s red-hot and gorgeous!” To be honest, Rihanna is one of the very few people who can pull off her look, so props to you Rihanna! Even though you aren’t a natural, I’ll still give you props for trying.
New hair!

Student Council Movie

On September 18, most of the student leaders and students went to the upper field to film the Student Council movie. The movie is patterned after Avatar The Last Air Bender. We gladly invited our alumnus, Cooper Hefner to help film the battle scene. That scene took three hours to finish it. Cooper is going to put many special effects on the scene to make the sword fighting and bender’s special ability more exciting. We have finished the most difficult part of the movie, so now we just need to film some short conversation clips. We are going to finish this movie as soon as possible, and to show it to everyone soon.

Ginger Spice

As we all know I am a ginger, and the only legitimate ginger at this school. So why not make a blog about people like me? This little blog could shine some light on the not very well known lives of the gingers out there. Luckily enough, the first entry is about someone I believe everyone’s familiar with, Lindsay Lohan. On Friday, September 10th, the young actress was found to be sporting her natural red which she hadn’t had in years. All gingers look better with their natural hair and it looks as if the crowd that commented on the news post agreed. Good job Lindsay! I’m glad to see you come out of rehab with a fresh color of hair.

Banksy!

Banksy is the fictional name of a prolific British graffiti artist, political activist and painter, whose identity is mysterious and unconfirmed. His ironic street art depicts a sense of cheeky dark humor done in a distinctive stenciling technique. He tends to do his work on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world. Allegedly Banksy was born around 1974 in Bristol England and took off as a graffiti artist during the great Bristol aerosol boom of the late 1980’s. His stylistic method is noted to be inspired by members of the anarcho punk bad Crass and artist Blek le Rat.

Banksy’s art work has been seen as beautiful, disturbing, striking and controversial by the public but, it doesn’t seem to stop him from creating art and forcing his opinion on society.

Banksy does not sell any of his own works though art auctioneers have been known to try to sell his work to the highest bidder.

Reyna Marisol Chicas, and the Armageddon

Just today, the members of a small religious cult that went missing were found in a small park in Antelope Valley. The group had left letters with their loved ones telling them that they were awaiting an apocalypse and a sighting of Jesus Christ.  The group contained eight children and five adults. Along with letters, the group also left behind deeds to their property and cell phones. A woman named Reyna Marisol Chicas, who is being hospitalized and mentally evaluated, was leading the group.  She showed definite signs of being mentally ill. When she was being questioned, she gave a false name and denied that she had any children. The kids were right next to her.

These people involved in this cult were mislead into believing that there was going to be an apocalypse.  The investigators conducted psychological analysis on the members of the cult. But there may not have been much wrong with them.  Believing that there will be an apocalypse and that Jesus Christ will miraculously appear and save you is no different than what most Christians believe. Most major religions have a belief that some sort of messenger will appear and start the apocalypse. The only difference is when they believe it is supposed to happen. The members of the cult believed that the apocalypse was but moments away.  Christians, for example, believe that this will happen in the far future. They say it will happen when four horsemen appear out of the sky.  The Muslims call it the Al-Malhama Al-Kubra.  So when you get right down to it, what was the difference between the cult and mainstream religion’s beliefs on the Armageddon?

One of the Most Complicated Words in the Engish Language

Love, one of the most misunderstood, complicated words in the English language, has preoccupied our minds since the time we discovered our kindergarten crushes amongst the view of sandboxes and swing sets. We thought it was hard enough when criticism meant the screaming “I love you!” in our middle school years, but somehow the miscommunication only gets worse over time. The missed phone calls, confused signals, and turn of the century facebooking, has now created the most confused generation of classic love birds, best friends, and everything in between. Here I am. No expert in the art of love, but simply, surrounded by the wonders of it.
