Ask Me To Marry You Like You Mean It!

Just recently, I read an article on the 5 worst ways to “pop the question” on Yahoo.

As I was reading, I was shocked when I heard that someone had the audacity to ask the question on Twitter. The conversation went something like this:

“To @emilychang – After fifteen years of blissful happiness I would like to ask for your hand in marriage?”

“@maxkiesler – yes, i do.”

When I read this, I couldn’t help but think, “What happened to privacy and romance?” I would hate to be proposed to in any way other than face to face, with my partner on one knee. But of course, that’s just me.

Nothing Gold Can Stay

leafNature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

This poem was written by Robert Frost, it is one of my favorites. I think that this poem symbolizes the innocence that a child possesses until they are exposed to the world’s raw truths and they change. Holding onto that innocence and purity is very hard, even impossible. At some point, everyone loses their innocence.

Tumbling

I have a new addiction. You see, here at the Ojai Valley School we can’t access youtube.com and many other partially essential websites for teenagers due to “sonic wall” blocking for random reasons. Photography, writing, self-expression has always been an interest, and I finally found a way to curb my cravings here.

Tumblr

Some people call it tumbling, some call it self-expression, but Tumblr is the new MySpace.

It may not include things such as a “profile revealing personal information,” but if desired users can make that information accessible. The gist of it is posting anything you want, and having people who subscribe to you, and even guests, see your work or what you have “reblogged” from other users. I can say that I’ve found the most inspiring and entertaining things through tumbling. It’s awe-inspiring entertainment those who have an eye for art or a good sense of humor.

Go make an account now.

Time to make change-Tips to help you determine your new years resolution.

It’s time to start thinking about those New Year’s resolutions. Yes it may be to far in advance but there are intense preparations we need to make. We need clear our heads, hearts and minds in order to find those simple changes that will benefit us in the following year.

Start by doing a “spring clean” around the house, get rid of old junk, clothes and bits and pieces that no longer relate to your life. Maybe donate old property to a local charity. After all why not start the end of the year by helping someone else and doing something charitable. You should find this spring clean also helps clear out the cobwebs in your own head as well as improving the appearance of your house.

Next, do delayed tasks. Remember all those tasks you put of to do another time, but never do? Well it’s time to rid yourself of these burdens and clear that list. For example fix that light that’s never worked. This should contribute to peace of mind and allow you to progress further with new tasks next year, maybe helping your motivation for the future.

Finally make a list of those negatives and positives you see in yourself including bad and good habits. This movement will allow you to acknowledge those bad traits as well as praise yourself for the positives.

Although it is important for you to focus on the positives it is essential that you look at the negatives in order to determine the best new years resolution/resolutions for yourself. Think about how you can improve these negative aspects in order to benefit you and your life next year.

You can now make a final list of new years resolutions. Now it’s up to you to make the changes.

Aliens Are Real!

ALIENS

Short story: I was searching for stories, interesting stories that would add a little color to my blog posts. Google search after Google search, I just couldn’t find the right story. The stories varied from articles on Pablo Picasso to stories about Michael Jackson‘s newest album. Then, I typed in “Animal News.. I came across the National Geographic web page and discovered what we have all been waiting to confirm. Yes folks, Aliens…………….. are real.

People claim to see UFO’s and then they claim to have been abducted in the middle of the night and later wake on a cold metal table where they are probed and prodded until they are sent back to earth. But we humans have now know that alien life exists and the live in our very own rain forests. It turns out that several new species have been found in Papau, New Guinea. The group consists of a new species of bug called a “Katydid” that has big, round, pink eyes and a “Tube-nose Fruit Bat” (see above picture). I don’t know about you but to me these new animals are WEIRD!

If you think that Aliens aren’t real…think again. * Que X-Files Theme Song*

A Home Away From Home

ojai
As a senior this year, I have had to adjust to several new changes. I find it hard to believe that the first semester is already almost over. And just two days ago I turned in all of my college applications.

These new things are both exciting and nerve-racking. The next step is finishing up the year, receiving a car at graduation and heading off to college , opening a new chapter in my life. I have been going to OVS for 11 years now and when I think about it, I couldn’t see myself anywhere else.

OVS has prepared me, taught me to be an independent studier, and offered me countless friendships that will last me the rest of my life. I am thankful that my aunt chose to put me into this school and although at times I have detested OVS, I will always appreciate the way it has pushed me and supported me for the most part.

Welcome to the Rest of Life

Lately I’ve been becoming more and more stressed. Not only are finals coming up, but college apps are due. College

As a California resident, my dad has me only applying to four schools, all in California. However I’ve seen people applying to maybe even 15 schools. To be honest, I question how they do it.

Here at the Ojai Valley School we use Naviance, a program that allows college counselors, teachers, and students to access the same program in order to lessen confusion and stress of the application process. Faculty can easily input their letters of recommendation and student can manage all their different applications. I haven’t really used Naviance to be honest, but I’m sure that I will in the near future. I’ll let you know whether or not I find it to be useful, because you care so much.

But really, college apps aren’t just stressful because of the application itself, it’s also the idea of going away, leaving home, and finally being independent. At least for me it is. I’ve been at boarding school for five years and having as much free time as college gives you sounds rather terrifying. What do you do when you only have maybe four hours of school a day? Here we’re booked solid from the time we wake up until the time we go to sleep on the weekdays and plan days in advanced what to do on the weekends. Isn’t OVS supposed to be a “college prep school?” If so, it only prepares us for the academic side, not the real side.

Afghanistan Women Cry in Fire

To burn is the only form of expression allowed to Afghanistan women.

Having been Married and suffered at young age, they fail to find an escape.

Gulbar, for example, was rushed into a local hospital in Northern Afghanistan with horrid burn on her nearly deformed body and face. Her internal body scans and blind eye narrate the story themselves: she had been brutally abused by her husband.

In another case, after an argument, Salehah’s husband poured gasoline over her tied up body and set it on fire.

Zarghona was also burned by her father-in-law for not washing her husband’s clothes thoroughly. She was fifteen.

However, these three are not the only victims. So far, about 800 cases have been “officially” recorded for the abuse cases.

The unfortunate social, mental, and physical suppression continue to bring greater depression and slavery for these women.

So, they burn themselves in fire.

If they get to survive with a slim chance, they cry muted again.

secret snow flakes

After the Thanksgiving is the Christmas, which means my favorite event is coming, The Secret Snow Flakes.

The event is that everyone at the school needs to draw a name tag from the bags, and give the person you get a gift everyday in one week. No one knows who they will get. They might get someone who they never talk to or someone they are already close to.

However, if some students told other people who their secret snow flakes are, it will ruin the whole event, because the person who receive the gifts is supposed to guess who is his or her secret snow flakes at the end of the week. However, no matter the person keep his or her secret or not, the main point of this event is to bring the entire community together.
