The Basketball Game of the Century

Man was that awesome or what?

The OVS Alumni basketball game was sure one for the ages. It was cool to see the basketball team face the Alumni in a very close game. However, the highlight was one play.

While the boys’ team and the Alumni had many impressive moments, I have to tell you…coach Floyd went crazy on the court.

While he only played for about 20 seconds, he was able to shoot a 3-pointer and then rifled a baseball pitch-style pass all the way down the court for fellow alum Parker Colborn to shoot an easy layup.

The Alum came out on top and did it in style.

What a game!

BMX

I will never be able to understand fully how these athletes are able to do the things they do on a bicycle. While watching videos of BMX riders I learned that they possess key elements that allow them to do the things they do. They have balance:

They can fly:

They can flip:

And they can fall:

Fall really hard:

So in conclusion I think that this is a tough sport to be a part of and for those who are involved in it I salute you.

I love watching the crazy things that these guys can do on a bike, it simply amazes me every single time. I wish that I was as good as these guys and girls at a sport.

Setting Out Goals For Yourself, and keeping them.

Tonight I watched a video report on a soldier named Daniel Rodriguez who is a decorated hero from the United States Military. The reason this video was so attention grabbing was not because he was in the military, but because of the ability for him to make a promise to himself and do what so many people can’t do, keep it.

He and a friend of his made promises to themselves as well as to each other that once they were out of the military they would chase after their dreams and do anything that had to be done to achieve them.

A sad turn of events occurred and Daniel’s friend was killed while being ambushed by enemy forces on active duty. A lot of the time a loss like this can affect people and their ability to push through, but Daniel refused to let his dreams and talent as a football player go to waste.

When Daniel got out of the military he immediately went into training to become a football player.

This is a very mature and beautiful thing to see in life, especially because it isn’t something you see too often. I wish to be as dedicated and as committed to achieving my dreams. Daniel is now an inspiration to me that will hopefully drive me towards what I seek in my life.

Fantastic.

How bout’ some Mock Draft Madness?-Worst Person 17-Andrew Luck

I know it’s pretty early still before the NFL Draft. But, I wanna discuss the Andrew Luck issue.

C’mon guys. Do you all really think that Luck is going to be the next great quarterback? Ya, he’s a great football player but I don’t see it. Then again, I’m a fan of the ground threat quarterback.

However, the reason Mr. Luck is on our worst person in sports list is because of all the hype that has been garnered thanks to his presence. I hate these overhyped athletes. The Colts are going to draft him, and it should just be dropped.

Honestly, I’m more curious about where Robert Griffin is going to end up since that’s still up in the air. I’ve never been a huge fan of the draft. I’m not a fan of rookies. Veterans play the game the right way. I just hate hearing about the top draft pick.

Who knows? Maybe a torn ACL is in Mr. Luck’s future?

Lacrosse Lacrosse

This week we started the first OVS Lacrosse practice.  We have not yet received pads or had a practice with sticks.  Instead we have ran, sweated, hyperventilated and worked ourselves ragged in preparation to receive pads.

We have alot of players who have never played lacrosse before and who are all itching to get into gear.

Tomorrow hopefully we will all get our pads and finally get to hit eachother!

We have a lot of players this year compared to last year when they only had 10 players.  Although it is to soon to say anything about our team, the enthusiasm of the players and the returning skill all look like the spuds lacrosse team will have a good chance this year!

The Long Awaited Season

It’s almost Spring. That means it’s almost track season. In fact, it starts tomorrow! Gosh, you have no idea how excited I am. Winter seemed long and I felt like I was hibernating. I get fragile when I’m not running or when it’s not a running season. I don’t feel like I’m alive.

I still can’t believe the winter season is over. My old school back in New Hampshire didn’t have a track team so I haven’t ran track since my freshman year. I feel like this is all a dream and when I wake up, I’m afraid that it will still be a cold winter.

Yesterday, I had the weirdest dream. It was already track season. I was so excited, jumping around and went to talk to my coach (thebrownguy) to ask about what workout I would be doing that day. But he said, “You know, we’re not doing any workout so no practice this week. Because, I am so lazy and I have things to do, okay?” I was speechless and went back to my room crying.

I am that excited and nervous because I have been training all year long for this season with high altitude training, running in cross country season, and solitary training in the winter. I had been waiting for track for so long and I am willing to give this season my all.

Time To Get Fit!

It’s that time of the year, that time when I push my body to the point of exhaustion in the gym on a daily basis in order to achieve a nice fit look for summer. Time to hit the weights and jump that rope, eat less junk and run like a mad man.

I had the pleasure of being trained by one of the most incredible people and amazing personal trainers I have ever met this last summer.

Yes that is him, he has modeled for various companies and contrary to what most people believe he has never done any steroids or any kind of enhancing to get his body to where it is today. His name is Modu Seye, he was born in West Africa and his way of being and view on life and health is what keeps ME Moduvated.

He started his own company called Moduvated (clever right?! haha) a couple years ago and has gone as far as creating his own protein called Moduvated Greentine!

Aside from being an amazing personal trainer, Modu is also one of the most thoughtful human beings in this world.

So I’m writing this blog to say thank you to him and encourage everyone else out there in reading my blog to get out and work out every day for a little bit and care about themselves and their health.

Lacrosse

Tomorrow we start a new sports season, Lacrosse.  This year the OVS lacrosse team actually has more players than the Baseball team!

Lacrosse I think is a misunderstood sport.  This I believe has to do with the fact of the  “Lax Bros.”  These bros are basically married to the sport.  They can be recognized by their flowing hair, posh polo shirts and that they carry their lacrosse sticks around with them all the time.

But that is not OVS, at least not this year anyway.  We have a full crop of fresh players coming in and a few returning.  Although we lack the experience I think we will succeed none the less with our desire to learn and play the game.

Starting tomorrow the era of the “Lax Spud” begins.

Dang sports, you scary!!!

Today, as I’m sure the spectators of the OVS girls’ soccer game witnessed, freshman Ali Fortier took a strong kick directly in the face, causing her to have a serious bloody nose. Now, I know this isn’t the usual Worst Person in Sports that I’m sure you readers are accustomed to, and I promise I’ll be back at that later. But I felt like this particular game needed to be addressed.

Not only did the OVS squad play a girl down for the entire game, but the fighting spirit by all of the girls was there from the opening kickoff. Despite the score, it was really a thrilling game to witness.

However, I was appalled to witness that the opposing team, which I will refer to as “Team X” continued to run up the score after Ali Fortier was forced to head to the sideline with that ball to the face that I mentioned earlier.

For about 25 minutes of play, OVS played with 8 position players and a goalie while Team X played with 10 position players and a goalie.

The worst part? Team X was winning by about 4 goals. The game was far out of reach.

So why, might I ask, did the coach even warrant this atrocious mindset? Why was this allowed?

I would love to hear feedback from any readers because this just shocks me.

Disappointing results

Today we had a soccer game.  The team we were playing we have already played and we won 5 to 1 or something like that. Point is we beat them bad. But not today. Today we ended with a tie game.

I played a forward position so it fell to me as well as our other forwards to score. Unfortunately we could not finish, without lack of trying. We had ALOT of shots but nothing could just go in.

For the most part of the second half I felt like I wanted to strangle something I was so frustrated.  Nothing is more frustrating than having their goalie get the ball over and over and over again.

Sometimes these things happen where there seems to be an invisible wall preventing us from scoring, and it is infuriating. Next week we have another game and I really hope for my own sanity that we get some goals.
