Samantha Who?

What does the movie, the Anchorman (featuring Will Ferrell and Steve Carell), and NBC’s show, Up All Night (starring Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph), have in common?

Christina Applegate!

And she is making her way up my favorites list again with the tv show, Samantha Who?

I started watching this show just recently and I fell in love with it.

The story begins in a hospital. Samantha Newly, Christina Applegate’s character, has just woken up from an 8-day coma after being hit by a car. She suffers retrograde amnesia meaning she cannot recall memories from a certain time period before the accident. In the few episodes that I have watched, Samantha is on a backwards journey trying to find out who she was and changing herself for the better.

I absolutely love it.

Here’s a starter video that will give you a good summary of what it’s about:

And here is a scene from the Anchorman-a bit random but something funny!

Airplane Car?

I was looking through the news on CNN and I came across something that in my opinion is magnificent. I read and watched an article about an airplane car.

This is a fully functional airplane that can travel up to 500 miles in distance, with the addition of being able to fit inside your garage as well as being able to drive on the highway and any other roads.

The woman in the video said something that caught my attention, she said that if they fly somewhere and the weather gets to be too windy than they can just drive back on the freeway! isn’t that just AWESOME!!!

I knew that eventually flying cars would become a possibility, but I didn’t think it would happen so yet. The world is definitely changing at a very fast pace.

I wonder what other crazy inventions will come up in the near future. Hopefully good ones.

Privacy Plz!!

The Internet and privacy go together like cats and dogs. In this digital age nothing remains private. Every picture that you upload, every comment or status update you make will be on the Internet forever. Attempts to delete foolish posts or pictures are valiant but futile; if someone really wanted to see this ”deleted” information they would find a way. Companies that are supposed to protect your privacy seem to release a constant stream of personal information.

Fortune 500 Internet Companies such as Google are the biggest offenders of this “crime”. Google in an attempt to penetrate the smartphone market has created the android.

The goal of the Android is to be a direct competitor to the IPhone. Admittedly the Android is a much more open system, allowing users a greater degree of customization. This freedom does not come without its cons, in 2011 researchers discovered pre downloaded software on the Android contains security leaks. Information that is at risk includes credit card numbers, contacts, email addresses etc.

The only way to protect yourself from these privacy “attacks” is to protect your password and try to limit yourself to closed systems. Only if companies would value their users privacy.

SOPA= Evil

In the mist of all the talks of free speech and SOPA, a site that most of us use has been shut down. Megaupload, that famous provider of  intellectual properties for free, allowing users to get quality software without paying. It is as simple as clicking a button.

The founder of Megaupload Kim Schmitz was found living in an extravagant manor. This home was described as an electronic fortress, equipped with the highest quality surveillance available on the market. This wealthy man refused to let police in and then resorted to hiding in a safe room. The police then cut into the safe room where they found Kim Schmitz cowering next to a sawed off shotgun.

He was promptly arrested and is currently waiting for his court date in a New Zealand jail. Following his arrest the FBI shut down Megaupload, a decision that was met with much outcry on the internet. Following  Megauploads shutdown, the FBI was attacked by Anonymous and had their own site shutdown.

I for one to not support SOPA finding the bill to be complete @$%*&, it remains to be seen whether other “questionable” sites will be taken down.

My Best Friend and My Worst Enemy

FACEBOOK.

I love it too much.

It keeps me busy when I’m bored or want to know something, yet it distracts me whenever I have more crucial and important things to be doing.

As much as I hate to admit it, it’s true: Facebook does more harm than good sometimes, ESPECIALLY during final exam week.

That is why my friend and I have decided to change each other’s passwords, allowing only a small amount of time to each other each day to check their Newsfeed and respond to messages.

I already miss it, and it’s only been 2 hours since I have been logged on. But, it’s definitely for the best. It will help me study A LOT, and I mean a lot. Being on Facebook means Tetris Battle will always be a lurking temptation, and once I start that I wouldn’t be able to stop.

Also, not having a Facebook for a while will help me focus on other things in my free time and slowly break my addiction (hopefully).

So bye bye for now, Facebook! You’ve got nothing on me for a while.

We have no life.

The thing my friends and I do on Friday nights?

…Tetris battle.

Why is it so addicting?

I even play in my head all day. I imagine the blocks coming down and trying to fit them perfectly and that’s how I improve my tetris skills.

So basically, every time you win in a battle, you get a star, and if you collect 5 of them, then you rank up. My roommate (yrreskrap) and I are always battling and making fun of each other whenever we lose.

Ranking up system makes people more addicted to it.

But the good thing is, your energy (the time you can play) is limited. If your energy gets empty, you have to wait for a while until it gets full automatically. But, since I’m very addicted to it, I always begging my friends for energy.

TETRIS BATTLE!

Tetris Battle is one of the most addicting games I have ever played in my life.

I used to make fun of people at this school who played it, including almost all of my friends. But one night I succumbed to the temptation and got sucked into the never-ending addiction.

Tetris is one of the oldest games for computers. I remember playing it when I was younger on my parents big old desktop computer.

Now, it is even more fun than ever to play a competitive version through an application on Facebook. You are allowed 2 minutes of time where in you and your opponent battle it out to see who can get the most points. At the end, depending on who wins or loses, you earn or lose stars, which help you earn a higher rank and win money so you can buy new cool features for the game.

The winner is determined by the number of “Lines Sent” – Higher number means you’re the winner!

You can play against one or more person at once, and also request to play your friends.

I know it’s terrible how much I love this game now. I really should be studying for final exams, but tetris battle is always lurking in the background, calling my name and waiting to distract me!

Funny State Farm Commercials!

Out of all of the different company commercials on television, in my opinion State Farm has the funniest commercials. This company has such a unique way of incorporating elements about its company into commercials. They don’t just say what they have to offer, they make funny connections that both explain aspects of their company as well as make the viewers laugh.

and

And this last one might not be the way people feel but I think that the next video is one of the greatest company videos EVER! It is perfectly set up to be as funny as possible and man oh man it sure made me laugh!

I thought it would be fun to make a post about something that makes me laugh and that will hopefully make the people reading this laugh 🙂

Do you have any funny commercials to share?
If so drop the link off in the comment box!

The Space Races Finish Line

The U.S. Space Program if floundering to say the least. Obama, in an effort to cut spending, has cut much of NASA funding. This decline has led to other countries, in this case Russia, to advance their own space programs. They have started conducting unmanned missions, even sending craft as far as Mars.

Russia like many countries in Europe is not alone in their efforts, but has received some support from the European Space Agency. (Even though they are not members.) Russia has assisted the ESA on numerous occasions, most recently locating a lost Mars probe.

The name of the once missing probe is Phobos-Grunts and shortly after its launch on November 9th it disappeared. The accepted theory was that it was not powerful enough to break out of Earths orbit and thus became trapped. On  November 22nd a Russian Space Station picked up a signal from the probe.

They were able to determine exactly were it is and the ESA have several plans to bring it back to Earth. Unfortunately for Phobos-Grunts it will no longer be able to complete it mission to go to Mars. Not only has it missed its window of opportunity but also has very little fuel left.

I for one am glad that countries have banded together to further advance Space technologies

Gaming.

Wii

Video games, what is the draw? Xbox, PS3, Wii, these are all devises that are used for entertainment, what ever happened to the good old stuff? Making dens and mud pies, play fighting, going to the beach and building sand castles, all free, exciting activity’s but many of these past times seem to have been lost.

Fun, exciting, activities now only seem to happen on the screens of ones TV, rather than in the outdoors. Virtual dueling, fighting and building homes, people now indent their sofas with wear, tear and maturity rather than themselves and their clothes. Although many mums see this as a plus, children just don’t gain the experience of learning things hands on.

Many people don’t even know what getting dirty is, the virtual life has kept many clean, vulnerable and in many cases helpless. People may be good at fighting with avatars but in a day-to-day confrontation it is not their Xbox controllers that can help them.

Video games have taken over the human experience. People don’t learn from their mistakes instead they learn from Halo or Call of Duty becoming addicted to the gaming lifestyle.

Although video games can be fun it seems that some people take them far to seriously allowing them to consume their lives, which in my perspective just is not right.
