The inspiration

Anything is possible

Your ideas scream

You hear screams of passion

Screams of possibility

Screams of the hope you can bring

Screams of the sorrow you lead

Screams of the love you can spread

Screams of the hatred you can unleash

You hear as you release the passion and possibility

The hope and sorrow

The love and hatred

You hear as these overwhelm your mind

Then, you stop hearing and start listening

You start to go

With no thought or care

The pen moves by itself

The music plays itself

Everything becomes thoughtless

Moving with ease

Wandering

Let me be your beacon,

let me be your guiding light.

I know you’re scared, tired, and broken,

but I’m here to hold you tight.

I know you hide your fears from me,

you get ashamed when you let them show,

but babe,

I’ve cried in your arms many times,

so please just let me know

what’s going on in that beautiful mind of yours,

your wicked, twisted, brain

filled with lies and awful times,

but babe let me be your change.

I just want to love you,

you’ve been through so god damn much,

your beautiful soul deserves the world you know,

I wish you thought the same.

I’m sorry for everyone who hurt you,

you’re scared to let me in because you fear I’ll do the same.

Everyone you’ve loved has done you wrong,

but darling I’m not the same.

So let me be your beacon,

let me be your guiding light.

I know you’re scared, tired, and broken,

but I’m here to hold you tight.

Chemical

Chemicals.

You are wired  – it is how your brain functions. You are programmed – you are made in one specific way.

You have a chemical makeup, you are your own chemical makeup.

It epitomizes you, it controls you, it decides who you are.

It is set in stone, yet is easily altered. And when that happens, it is scary.

What once controlled you and monitored who you are, has now changed. You are no longer yourself – once made up from certain chemicals, you are now inhabited by imposters.

You are changed, you are different.

You are not yourself.

They say it’s good, they say it helps. It’s good for you, it will make things better.

It will make you better.

You are out of control. You are not yourself.

Are you better?

They say things will be easier, that you are struggling.

It will put you at ease.

You just need to be different, a changed version of yourself.

Then you will be better.

Brain or Body?

When we think of ourselves, we take in our bodies as a whole – physical limbs as well as thoughts. However in reality, we are just a brain.

Every thought and emotion comes from, or simply is our brain. And it is our brain that controls every action and movement we do. Essentially, we are just a small hunk of cells controlling a jumble of skin and bones.

Even more so, humans are just a bunch of atoms. Atoms are studied in school and professionally, meaning that the study of atoms is really just a bunch of atoms learning about themselves.

It’s weird to think of the human body in its individual parts, for it all works as a whole, controlled by the brain. When thought of on its own, the brain is such an odd concept, and the way it works to control the body is a crazy concept.

A valiant soldier

Red never thought this day would come. He had been drafted. He had overheard the officers saying that this war was a lost cause and the draft was a death sentence. A soldier’s life wasn’t valued in this army.

He worked in basic training for a year becoming the most battle ready soldier in the military.

The time came for his first battle. The officers told him the future was at stake.

He approached his position and got in.

He was flung through the air at great speed.

He was honored in a way only the angriest of birds can.

3 Stars.

Concentration

When you’re driving, taking a test, in class getting sleepy… You need to concentrate on what you’re doing but you can’t and everybody experiences that all the time.

However, there’s one thing you can do quickly to refocus.

Put your hand between your ears, on your chin and feel for the masticatory muscle. Then start moving the muscle. You don’t have to open your mouth but start trying to chew. Repeat for 30 to 50 times. You’ll feel your brain refocusing.

But… why? There’s a cluster of veins that sends blood to your brain which is located near the masticatory muscle and every time the muscle contracts by chewing, the veins are pushed and blood rapidly will be sent to your brain. Also, extra oxygen and glucose are sent to brain so you can concentrate more.

the endless circle the endless circle the endless…

It’s funny. I didn’t think that I’d find such depth and meaning in my summer reading.

A Confederacy of Dunces
Image via Wikipedia

I was assigned four books over this past summer, one of them being Toole’s The Confederacy of Dunces. In reading this book, it opened up my eyes of the vicious circle that has been plaguing our society since the birth of mankind and undoubtedly will do so for eternity (or, in my mind, the Rapture).

People want to be viewed by others a certain way. They portray themselves accordingly depending on who their audience is. As shown through the main character of Ignatius J. Reilly, one might strive for acknowledgment but receive nothing but judgement in return.

Prejudice is a instantaneous reaction, an almost inbred behavior. It may take your brain a few seconds to scan a stranger before you feel like you already have a grasp of the kind of a person he or she is.

People, whether conscious of the fact or no, put on a guise in order to recreate themselves. Most people describe going off to college as a time to “start with a clean slate.” This is essentially people putting on a new persona. You are given the opportunity to leave your past behind. So you used to be the girl who was too shy to approach anybody? Well now that same girl is the first to introduce herself at her new college. You are allowed to break the binding chains of the stereotypes that you had been associated with during these chance times. And in this vicious cycle, there are many opportunities to change.

We are afraid to be judged (on different levels of course) yet, we judge almost all we see. The circle feeds on insecurities, on fears, on secrets and it generates even more. Just as Van Gogh‘s potentials were never realized (at least not until after his death) and Ignatius’ motives were misinterpreted, humanity will always reject what is not the norm. And, in one way or the other, people will always strive to live up to the standards of their peers.

One Second of Your Time

Think about this: A man is sitting at a football game with a portable TV set tuned to the game. The TV station showing the game picks up his image and the image is sent from the cameras, to the satellite, to a TV transmitter miles away where the image is sent back through the airwaves and back onto the man’s TV set. The man sees himself and the image is picked up from the pupils of the eyes and is sent to the brain. The brain will then send signals to the man’s arms to start waving. The image is sent from the TV set back through the airwaves, to a satellite, to a transmitter where it is sent to a TV set thousands of miles away where the man’s family is watching the game. The man’s mother sees the image on TV and the image is picked up by her pupils in her eyes and is sent to the brain where the hippocampus is stimulated and memory takes place. Then the brain sends signals to the woman’s teeth, tongue, lips, mouth, and voice box to where she can now say, “Look, it’s Mike!”
