Batman v. Spiderman v. Superman

Earlier today I was reminded of an essay question I was given last year. It read:

Who would win in a battle: Batman, Spiderman, or Superman?

I have no doubt in my mind that Batman would win.

I am also the only person in my world history class who thinks so.

Batman would easily take out Spiderman with a Batarang before Spiderman could even think to spin one of his wimpy little webs.

Then there is the debate about Superman beating Batman. But Superman Would. Not. Win.

Batman’s true identity (shh! don’t tell!), Bruce Wayne, is one of the wealthiest men in the entire world. Anyone who thinks he wouldn’t be able to get a large amount of Kryptonite at the snap of his fingers is sorely mistaken. And although Superman appears to be indestructible, he can be killed.

Batman would have the Kryptonite ready for when Superman came bursting through a wall or a billboard or a freaking chihuahua, and Superman would be weak and feeble. Then Batman would tie Superman tight with a Batrope or a Batlasso or a Batscarf or a Batsomething.

And even though Superman could potentially get free if he escaped the Kryptonite infested areas, he has morals, and therefore would be too much of a girl to kill Batman.

Batman, however, is prepared to be the bad guy if need be, and the bad guys tend to kill… Mercilessly.

So before Superman could get away from the Kryptonite, Batman would be a badass and kill him. Or harm him so badly that Superman would not be able to hurt Batman and then he would be too afraid of Batman to ever go near him again and so Superman would run to his Superfriends and cry Supertears and write down his feelings in his Superdiary.

Excuse My French

Many an Englishman will tell you that the only problem with the 100 Years’ War is that it did not last long enough. Well today the war was reborn, with England facing their rivals: the French. The battle was quite one-sided, the French looked the more dangerous and came out the victors in a 2-1 win.

Although this is a cause for depression amongst the English there are multiple good things to be taken away from this. The first is that there was a very good performance by Andy Carroll, a promising young player. Peter Crouch continued his scoring, grabbing his 22nd goal for his national side.

But what really should make the English happy is that it looks like the national squad is finally realizing that the key to success comes from youth. Look at Germany in the last World cup, all but two or three of their players will easily be young enough to compete in Brazil in 2014.

This is the key for England and with players like Carrol, who knows, they might be able to make enough progress to get through the round of 16 in Brazil.

However France finally showed that they have the potential to win after their stunningly abysmal World Cup performance. They do have some up and coming youth that could give them the opportunity to build a team that can win and not have to use their hands to make it to the finals.

The end of Volleyball :(

The end of the first trimester marked the end of the first sports season as well. Unfortunately, that means there is no more volleyball. I have been playing volleyball since my best friend, Veronica Crisafulli, taught me in 7th grade. Through the last four years Ms. Haldeman has shared her passion and love for the sport with me.

More than a sport, volleyball has become a way of life to me. When I am feeling down, I go to the court and hit a few balls. It is so sad that I will no longer have that option here. But all good things must end at some point right? And I plan to continue on with volleyball through college. I hope to play at college level if I make the cut. Volleyball has taught me much more than just what my athletic abilities are.

Volleyball has taught me how to push myself, how to express myself, and most of all it has taught me the value of relationships. I just want to thank the people in my life who support me and have pushed me to do my best, because I realize now the value of those lessons.

To Haldey, thank you so much for teaching me all that I know about volleyball , and furthermore , sharing your passion and love for the sport with me, I love you. You have taught me so much and I will always be thankful for that. To all the girls on my team, I truly love you all. Thank you for always being dependable and having the positive attitudes to push on and keep smiling even when we should have won. My senior year has started off very strongly, and I will certainly hold this memory as one of my fondest at my home away from home, OVS.

Stolen

It’s almost ironic that last week I posted a blog about how incredibly fantastic the iPhone 4 is. At the Best Day Foundation, another post of mine, my iPhone 4 was stolen.

It was sitting in my beach bag, inside my small make up bag, and underneath all my makeup; somewhere I thought no one would look.

I honestly have nothing to hide on my phone, or on any other electronic item for that matter, but it’s still a bit nerve-racking to have something of yours stolen.

My iPhone was the first item to ever be really stolen from me. I’ve had people “borrow” my things and not bring them back. I’ve have lost things and just assumed that I have misplaced them. Never has someone directly taken something important from me. It’s like your privacy has been invaded.

Philadelphia Eagles Fans

You can see them, you can even smell them. The stench of hoagies and cheesesteaks can only mean that a sea of green that screams real friggin loud is coming your way. They are so confident with themselves that they show you how good they are at spelling by doing it constantly and they boo’d the best quarterback in franchise history because he lost Superbowl 39 to the equally unlikeable Pats.

They have a guy in a green body cast at every home game. They once pelted a man dressed as Santa with snowballs during a game in the 80’s and not one person in the crowd dislikes Rocky movies, foul language, or having Michael Vick pet sit. We call this group of degenerates Eagles fans.

Sure I have the fact that I’m a New Yorker and that all of my teams have a rivalry to one extent or another with this town to support my claim but that’s not the main reason why. They’re like flies and mosquitos who drain a players life source and energy to the point where playing for Philly is a nightmare. They are self hating and at the same time self promoting.

You know someones an Eagle fan through one trait, they always spell the word “Eagles.” E-A-G-L-E-S, for goodness sake it’s like a spelling bee for what the 21st century calls “special people.”

Pam Anderson In India!

Yesterday, US model and actress, Pam Anderson, arrived in Mumbai, India, to be a part of the reality TV show, Big Boss.

Anderson was much awaited by her fans who gathered around the airport to get a glimpse of her. However, the greetings did not make her feel welcome, instead they scared her.

Anderson, who is going to be on the show for only 3 days will be reportedly paid 5 million dollars. Yet, this celebrity had made quite a fuss about not being on the show alone without her personal secretary.

The show however, is not to keen on the issue as they cannot have non-celebrities on it.

Much to many of the Indian fan’s disappointment, Anderson will not be wearing her skimpy clothes on the show, a let down for those who expected her to wear the revealing bikini she wore in Baywatch.

However, fans are all “geared up” to see the actress on the show starting on 18th.

The Legendary Golfer Contributes to the Medical Field

The Legendary golfer, Tiger Woods, has indeed failed his career due to his scandalous behavior.

The media successfully took an advantage of his affairs with a nightclub manager and several other mistresses, sabotaging his reputation mercilessly.

Since then, Tiger Woods has been taking a break from his career.

During his free time, he joined Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services with a hope of treating his sex addiction.

Of course, his program was not free, at all.

On the bright side, his celebrity status succeeded to add popularity to this program, exponentially encouraging people to voice their symptoms of sex addiction.

Apparently, this “illness” can be “diagnosed.”

Camping in Santa Cruz Island

On November 9th, I headed out to Santa Cruz Island with a small group of students and Ms. Davis. I am normally opposed to camping trips because of the intensive backpacking it calls for.

A student is expected to carry his or her own pack with all of their personal gear inside, along with the group gear such as stoves, propane, tents and food. A backpack ends up weighing around 50 pounds, which the student must carry on his or her back at all times for duration of their trip in the wilderness.

Blues Get Rocked and Shocked

Chelsea suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Sunderland this past weekend. Steve Bruce’s side played a fantastic game, beating the champions 3-0. This was Chelsea’s first home defeat this season, also allowing the first goals at Stamford Bridge so far this year.

For the rest of the teams in the league, this comes as quite a pleasant surprise. Sunderland was not the team many would have picked to upset Chelsea at home, especially given Chelsea’s recent form.

Chelsea did not look like they wanted to be out on the pitch. They looked sluggish and non-potent. Sunderland was quite the opposite, creating many chances and playing a more aggressive style than many would have predicted.

Arsenal came away with three points against a disappointing Everton team.  Everton has been lacking style and competency lately, barely staying mid-table. This result puts Arsenal two points back of Chelsea in second. Man United drops to third, three points back of the leaders, followed by Man City.

Crooning for Crookers

Nobody can pull of a combination of cool and classy quite like Crookers. This Italian DJ duo goes by the pseudonyms Bot and Phra. The twosome famously signed to Diplo’s oddball Mad Decent record label not too long ago. I see this as a well-functioning symbiotic relationship. Their unique electro house is catchy enough for the mainstream consumption Mad Decent needs, yet quirky enough to be…well…Mad Decent.

Crookers get common complaints of being repetitive, but personally I find it to be part of their charm. Compared to most straight house music, it’s incredibly varied. And no one can argue against the inventiveness of their baselines.

Both Bot and Phra are not only some of the most prolific DJs, but also the most sought after in all realms of electronic music. They are truly spectacular.
