Driving at Night.

Driving

No this is not another driving disaster; in fact it is quite the opposite. Yes, surprisingly I have accomplished something successful in my driving career so far and that is driving in the dark.

I have driven in the dark before, but not a long distance.  So as I drove from Los Olivos to Ojai carrying my sleeping family in the car I enjoyed the sights.
As I smoothly traveled along the 101 highway I looked at the numerous lights that passed me by. Thinking about their similarities to the stars and how many reminded me of fireworks you may see on the 4th of July, I really wondered at their beauty.

Surrounded by wonder, the 101 had transformed from what I had previously seen in the day, The buildings that looked shabby and worn down in the day were now transformed into houses of wonder and light. Cat’s eyes that stood in the middle of the road glimmered like shining stars and the moon shone bright in the sky highlighting passing clouds and the land around me. It was really picturesque.

Drive in the dark if you ever want to see another light.

It really Hurts?

Today I played my very first ever football game against the Dunn school.  I have practiced about twenty days and was in pads for about 18 of those.  All I can say is the game is much different then practice.

Being completely new to the game meant I had to learn everything, and with the goal of getting eligible for the game I focussed on one position, running back.

First I will say I really enjoy the game, but I’m still very lost.  I learned the hard way how it feels to be tackled and piled on by testosterone fuming teenagers.  To be perfectly honest, it’s not that bad.  Yeah it hurts but the pads do protect you and again and again I got up from being crushed by players. Saying that I think I ended up on the ground almost every play. I am not a great blocker so it ended with me or me and my “guy” on the ground, usually just me…over..and over…and over.. again.

What really hurts though is those precision hits. In the second quarter I got a helmet straight to the side of the knee.  I remember laying there looking up just thinking “Sweet Jesus, that really hurt”

So I walked away from the game with bruises, cuts, and possibly some internal bleeding (jokes)

But really, football hurts, but you gotta love the game.

In-N-Out or The Habit

innout

OR

habit

I’ve had both In-n-Out as well as The habit and I’m a big fan of both but there is no doubt in my mind that In-n-out takes the gold in my race. In-n-Out’s burgers in my opinion are better in almost every way except maybe the cheese.

f

The habit is definitely not far behind though, they have really good milkshakes, and way better french fries than In-n-out.

The fear of technology

Technology can destroy you.

Technology makes life easier. Today, there are even robots that make you coffee and bring it to you. We are living the era of advanced technology. Computer, mobile phone, portable media player… We are addicted to all of them.

But… some people go through bitter experiences.

Please watch this first…

She was listening to her music loudly. People around her also hear the music and get annoyed. It’s not good for her ears. Above all, she does not recognize anything that goes on around her. Then, the worst thing happens.

I want to dedicate this video to my roommate. If you keep listening to music that loud, you are going deaf and possibly this kind of thing could happen.

Free Speech and Tattoos

So several days ago I got to learn about the first amendment in Government class.

What I’ve learned has been so interesting, I might as well write about it! Yay!

Basically, We have the right to have freedom of religion, speech and to gather publicly.

This is fantastic! this amendment makes this country a great country, because it gives us the right to be a”#holes, and that is, what makes this country so great!

Yet this is such a controversial amendment because it cover so much, yet it says so little This creates a HUGE! problem, because it can be interpreted by so many people and sometimes that’s bad. Take Tattooing for example,  Tattooing is not protected by the first amendment…

Why?

Isn’t this a free country?

Do we not have rights?

Why does the Government not protect me for what I write on my ugly shell I call “skin”?

White Rocks and Moonlight Walks

I had never been to the infamous White Rocks in the Los Padres National Forest before a few days ago on Tuesday night.

Our head lamps and flashlights were turned off as we ascended up the mountain on our short hike, which took about 20 or 30 minutes. It was dark, but the full moon hovered overhead, lighting our paths. We were not talking; it was silent except for the sounds of bugs and our footsteps on the ground.

After crossing a few areas of water and unfortunately tripping over some big rocks, we had made it to a big white plateau surrounded by 3 towering white rock masses. It was so beautiful to see the white surface illuminated by the full moon.

And so we sat – Coop, Floyd, 15 other student leaders, and myself. We talked about issues at school, had a debate, and took a beautiful group photograph. (Thank you Max, it turned out so amazing!)

AND THEN WE PLAYED HIDE AND SEEK.
It was extremely epic and fun. There were so many good hiding spots too.

I was skeptical at first about this moonlight hike that Coop had planned for us, but I ended up having such a great time. I really did. I did not want the night to end! We have such a fun and interesting group of student leaders this year and I am so proud do be one of them.

A Tropical Adventure (Continued)

As I was saying, Costa Rica was an eventful trip.  We went to Manuel Antonio National Park.  It has this beautiful beach that’s right on the jungle.  We were already wearing our bathing suits so we went swimming and my dad took a picture of me spitting water at my waterproof Olympus Stylus 7.1

He’s been obsessed with motion water pictures ever since.  I used to be really into horseback riding.  I rode English in California but in Manuel Antonio, the only place we could find with horses rode Western.  It was tricky, trying to ride with one hand and the saddle was a little different.  It had a pommel, which I liked.  I could hold onto it and it was the perfect size for my hand.  My horse was really nice too, but the best part was the ride.  We rode alone along the deserted beach for hours.  It was foggy and cool, late in the afternoon.  The light was beautiful, calm and glowing.  I had never been on a better ride, and even though I quit riding 2 years later, I still never have.

Week’s worst people #1: Philadelphia Flyers fans

Everybody knows how much I love Philadelphia. I love the Eagles. I love the Phillies. I AM a New Jersey Devils fan, so I don’t really care for the Flyers. But, I love the fans. That is, until a very sad occurrence. On Wednesday night, while an anti-cancer PSA was being played on the Jumbo-tron, the fans booed Sidney Crosby, who was shown in the PSA.

If you aren’t a fan of the NHL, most fans don’t really care for Sidney Crosby. I’m not sure why. However, I don’t like him either so I don’t know why I’m vouching for his respect. He’s a good player, ’nuff said.

Ok, obviously the fans weren’t booing cancer. That would just be sick. I think it was just a passionate group of fans channeling their passion at the wrong time.

I apologize to anyone this action may offend. Take a look at the PSA for yourself. Don’t worry, the Flyers’ fans won’t boo you.
