Mature.

On a twig hang a few grapes
One red and five immature globes
The green ones push the red headed to the edge
Just because they did not taste the sweetness of the flushed fruit

So please do not cry
My honeyed one
They do not admire you beauty
Because they are unripe

UP.

“Thanks for the adventure. Now go have a new one.”

– Ellie

I watched this movie three years ago, and I was moved by the exciting adventure of a flying house.

Then I watched the movie last year, and I was moved by the interactions between two generations.

Last night, I watched it again. And I discovered a part that I’ve ignored for a long time – the memory between Carl Fredricksen and his wife Ellie.

The film “centers on an elderly widower named Carl Fredricksen and an earnest young Wilderness Explorer named Russell. By tying thousands of balloons to his home, 78-year-old Carl sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America and to complete a promise made to his lifelong love.”

I did not realize that the memory was really playing a big role throughout Carl’s entire life.

Math.

Actually I am not a great math student, and math is not my favorite subject to study. I mean math is gonna be very useful in our future careers, but what I don’t like about math is that math is just confusing sometimes and I hate the feeling when all of those numbers are stuck in my head.

Tests have to be performed in education, I totally understand that and I’ve been taking so many tests as I grow up so I dont have any problems about tests or I should say students just have to take tests.

Time to Design Life.

Recently, I have been doing a story on our school’s new costume design program. And as a approach to the story, I find myself also attracted by the power of design.

In the story, the concept of the “dress form” confused people a lot, especially for people who don’t understand the differences between a “dress form” and a “mannequin.” Therefore, I decide to write a blog to make it clear that these two items are TOTALLY different.

First of all, a dress form is a three-dimensional model used for sewing or displaying clothing. Tailors and dress makers use dress forms to work and construct dresses in order to make them more capable and fit to human bodies. Therefore, in my story, Ms. Beverly used a dress form to hold the bodice, so that her student can decorate it by hand.

Mannequins are derived from the concept of dress forms, but mannequins are mostly used to display fashion items such as dresses, handbags and coats. The first fashion display mannequin was made and used in France in the mid-19th century. Mannequins were first made of chewed paper and then made of wax, glass, and plastic. They usually have the arms and legs part. Therefore, a mannequin focuses more on the entire body effects.

I Am With You

At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet.”

I need you like I need the air to breathe

Love is more than a word
it says so much.
This is only happened since
I fell in love with you.

as I am with you
Why this word does this
I haven’t got a clue.

I miss you all day just all the time
My day is your night
My dark is your bright.
When I look at the moon
When I talk on the phone
When I write this poem
I am always be with you.

I hope you’re as happy being with me
as I am with you.

The Better Food.

Recently, one of my American friends asked me about my perspective of the food differences between Chinese and American food. Well, it’s hard to say which is better but there are lots of differences. But since I am a Chinese, I would of course prefer mine.

Gourmets will like Chinese food more than American food even by only looking at the it. Chinese chefs put a lot of efforts to make their food look beautiful. Since the ancient times, Chinese people have considered food as an individual type of art. Food is usually made colorfully and sometimes is made into the shape of animals, such as a dragon or a phoenix. Great dishes do not only have taste, but also have gorgeous embellishments. On the other hand, American food also has its own style of appearance. For both casual dining and fine dining, American food is often layed in the plates in a simple and clear way. Food eaters do not usually get a large amount of embellishments other than small pieces of fruits or vegetables.

Pull the Trigger.

Gun shooting scenes are always among the most popular ones in American movies. People get excited for gun shooting scenes. During the visit to Las Vegas, I held and shot a gun for the very first time of my life. I am still very excited when I think about it now.

It was an afternoon, I walked into a gun store’s shooting range. The staff in the front counter assisted me and helped me pick the guns I will shoot. Boys likes to study and even collect guns, they know all kinds of guns, but I do not know as much as they do. Therefore I picked a few easy ones to start with.

After paying for the guns and ammo, A range master came and greeted me. He gave me a set of eyes and ears protection. The things that cover my ears would block the noise of a firing gun so that my ears would not feel uncomfortable. I also got to wear a pair of shooting goggles so that nothing would hurt my eyes. When I was about to hold the gun, I was very nervous. Because it would be almost impossible for me to shoot a gun in China, that was something very new to me.

Oh, They Don’t Grow On Trees!

Someone asked me “Hey, do you know where do pineapples grow?” I said “Of course I do, they grow on pineapple trees!” He laughed at my response and said “No! They grow on parent plants that look like pines on the ground!” For the 18 years I have lived, this is the first time I got to know, “Oh, they don’t grow on trees!”

The origin of the fruit is from the area between Southern Brazil and Paraguay. After the natives of Brazil and Paraguay spread the fruit, pineapples reached the Caribbean eventually. In 1493, Columbus found out about pineapple and then the Spanish also spread pineapple into Philippines and Hawaii.

Pineapples are called pineapples because the body of a pineapple on its parent plant looks like a huge pine cone. People got confused with the pine cones and the fruit, as a result, the name of pineapple has been created.

Life of Pi.

Life of Pi” is recently a very famous and popular movie by Ang Lee, especially when it became the Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards of 2013’s Oscar Ceremony.

Therefore, I decided to watch it.

The movie begins with Pi’s childhood. When Pi was young, his life was not that good. He was bullied by his peers who laughed at his name and called him “Pissing” (His name was Piscine). As he grew up and entered middle school, he decided to change the way he lived. He believed in a lot of religions. He was very smart.

One day his father taught him that animals are not like humans, they don’t have the emotions like humans, they are just animals. Pi’s family decided to move their home and sell the zoo they owned. So they took all of the animals with them and boarded a Japanese ship to their new home. The ship sank because of a huge thunder storm. Pi was lucky to get on a life boat with a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan, and a tiger whose name was Richard Parker.

Lantern Festival.

Tomorrow is the Chinese Lantern Festival, which is also regarded as the last day of Chinese new year, and also my favorite Chinese Festival.

It is the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, the first lunar month is called yuan-month and in the ancient times people called night Xiao.

When I was young, the only thing I did on this special day was wait for my uncle, because he would visit me and bring me a lantern. I love lanterns! Each year I got a different one, and they usually depend on the theme of the year, such as the Chinese Zodiac.
