Shocking Shoes

Last weekend, I attempted to buy a pair of white shoes for a job that I have recently gotten, but I found out that the pair of shoes that I wanted to get was sold out at the Nike store I went to. After I found this out, it got me wondering about Nike statistics and how many shoes they sold annually. Let’s just say that the amount of shoes sold annually is quite shocking. This number is around 780 million pairs sold annually. Shockingly 800 million dollars are made from sales of Air Force 1s alone. Let’s just say the average price of an Air Force is 100$, this one style of shoe comes in three main styles lows, mids, and highs. That means there was an estimated 8 million pairs of shoes made every year. That means that you could give everyone in LA two pairs of Air Forces and some leftover. It seems that even with the number made every year they are always sold out. As I was told by the Nike employee that I asked, they almost never have them in stock because they are being bought constantly and the only time they really have them is when someone returns them. Nike makes around 30 billion dollars per fiscal year meaning that Air Force 1s make up around 2.6% of Nike’s annual revenue.

Shoes Are Just Shoes

Shoes may in fact be the singular most important thing put on in a day. They affect the way you walk, the way you experience your day. Goodness knows the power of gorgeous, uncomfortable shoes and their ability to change your entire outlook on the upcoming week.

How you see yourself in the morning all comes down to your shoes. Are you a little taller than you were yesterday? A little more fluid, a little more grounded?

Even to those without shoes on, their shoes affect them. They decided not to wear them, and this influences the rest of their day because, simply put, there are certain things you don’t do unless you have shoes on.

While many would argue that they just throw on the same shoes they wear everyday without thinking about it, that is still their decision to have a “usual” action.

Are you determined to look as good as you can? More laid back? Aiming to be fashionable? No matter the reason, shoes outrank your clothing.

Shoes dress up an outfit or dress it down. Shoes change the way others see you. Yes, people will see your cool bomber jacket, but are you wearing it with heels like a model, so you can feel like the rest of the world is your personal runway Are you wearing it with trainers, making the world your personal path? Or are you wearing it with boots, telling the world to get out of your way ’cause you mean business?

Your shoes are one of those decisions that make you, you.

Mundane Steps

hh

Trekking in the early morning, on a cracked road.

My feet do not step, but drag.

They are busy, hurrying to and from the mundane.

Isolated they step and dart through the mid-morning traffic.

And the people they talk, laugh, and cry.

Where they go, they do not care.

People do not realize what a mundane system it is.

You drive to a destination and get out.

For what?

To stare, to think, to buy, and to wonder

what is the point of it all?

A Proper Retro

The sneaker release that I am most excited for this year is The 88′ Retro White Cement Jordan 3. By far. This is a proper retro release featuring a “nike air” on the back tab. That single detail is what makes this sneaker special. Up until 2001 all Retro Jordans featured that detail on the back.

After that year the Nike air was replaced by the Jordan jumpman logo. The nike air is original. Iconic. Necessary. It represents everything Michael Jordan did in that sneaker. From the Spike Lee “Mars Blackmon” ads to the dunk competition.
This is the biggest release for 2013.

I will be camping by my computer at 5:30 to get one of these off of Nike.com and will either be extremely happy or sad that day.

And now is the time for disappointment. “Nike Air” comes at a price, $200. a 40 dollar jump from the previous release. The quality is no better, but it is better than the $400 they will go for on ebay the next day.

The struggles of somebody that loves sneakers.

The value of a sneaker

There is a phenomenon going on in the sneaker world that absolutely disgusts me.

People are being mugged and killed for sneakers.

The Jordan 11 “Concord” single handedly caused riots

This is a basketball shoe causing riots where people are killed. At what point did these people start valuing human life at the price of a pair of sneakers.

This has gotten so excessive to the point that I no longer go out and buy limited sneakers at stores anymore. I do literally all my sneaker buying online.

Waiting in a line outside only for a riot to form or someone to mug you on your way to your car is way to much a risk. This hobby has become dangerous.

The Air Yeezy 2 was one of the biggest sneaker releases of the year.
