NFL Free Agency

Well it’s that time of year again. The NFL free agency market is about to open and this year, there are a TON of big names on the open market. Last season was a pretty weak year for free talent, but this year should be different. There have already been a ton of rumors swirling around, so let’s look at some, shall we?

First off, let’s talk a big trade. The Eagles are apparently the big name going after Jets All Star cornerback Darrelle Revis. This is a big one, but to be honest, I’m not overly confident nor impressed about this move. Yes, the move would give us a new All Pro corner, but the problem I see is that this looks oddly familiar.

Two years ago, Nnamdi was signed, who was the best corner in the league. We all know how that turned out.

I don’t know man. I’m just saying I’m skeptical. I love Revis as a player. I hate the Jets, and this is a win-win but there are risks, including his ACL tear.

We will see. This is all speculation for now.

More developments and details will come this week. The season starts now.

Time to Break the Poetry Trend-Intro to LAX

The past few posts on this blog have been straight up poems and I AM a big fan of poetry but it’s time to break that trend. I’m a sportswriter so let’s talk sports!

This weekend was our first lacrosse game. I was excited after I got done from my SAT and strapped on my pads.

Then we lost 12-1. So much for excitement. I am experienced enough to know that one game will not define our season. But, that’s not the way you wanna start off the season. I had a good time playing, and I thought personally that while I could have given more, I played a solid game. We could have all given more. Some guys had excuses after the game and as captain, I have to listen to them. I dismissed a lot of them.

Following the game, something interesting happened. My football coach, coach Titus, walked over to me, gave me a fist bump and we talked about the game a little bit. He then proceeded to ask me to take a picture with his baby, Shepard. I happily accepted his offer, squatted down next to the stroller and smiled.

It felt good actually. Ya, we just lost by 11 points, but I enjoyed the experience of getting back into the game. Hopefully, we can get some wins going this season.

Silence

Silence.

The beginning and the end.

Space is filled with it.

ever-expanding and growing.

I can’t stand silence.

It makes me itch, uncomfortable in my own skin.

I grasp for the smallest of sounds, but only silence remains.

we take sound for granted, yet some who live without it miss out.

Though we have learned to repair this.

What I would give to hear sound for the first time again.

A planes safety

fefe

Liberties at stake in an explosive time.

A plane, symbol of power  and might is now secure

There are kindhearted people risking the security.

A bureaucratic organization is hated and despised.

The act passed the plane is no longer secure.

No knows what is right.

Should people be life be risked but give freedom?

Should freedom be sacrificed for the greater good?

The people have spoken, freedom must be protected from foreign and domestic enemies.

The decision is not passed likely.

There are those who are angry.

Keepers of the sky they are the ones who lives will be risked.

They rightfully hated the decision yet wish to drawn in nature given liberties.

The Nike Roshe Run

I recently picked up a pair of Nike Roshe Runs, a purchase I have been contemplating for a very long time, and I think I have come across one of the most comfortable sneakers of all time.

These things are like clouds for your feet. It isn’t even funny. I have a hard time taking them off. I got them in black and white, a color combination that has been notoriously hard to find, for the relatively cheap price of $50.

For that price they are really worth it and more. I will be getting more in the future.

And yes they come in a multitude of colors and materials.

The Snake’s Defiance

veve

The snake slithers quietly rattling a warning to all.

The snake does not care about the other animals but wishes to instill fear.

For a while the other animals do not heed the snakes  warning.

It is not until the snake strikes, impaling a rabbit with its fang do the animals heed its warning.

The snake is not finished, its venom is a poison that spreads through the hearts of other creatures.

The animals decide something must be done.

They exclude the snake from the jungle forcing it to find its own food and comfort.

Many of the snakes’ eggs die, the snake vows to never forget this injustice.

One day the snakes descendent will bite and engulf the hope of others.

Oh, They Don’t Grow On Trees!

Someone asked me “Hey, do you know where do pineapples grow?” I said “Of course I do, they grow on pineapple trees!” He laughed at my response and said “No! They grow on parent plants that look like pines on the ground!” For the 18 years I have lived, this is the first time I got to know, “Oh, they don’t grow on trees!”

The origin of the fruit is from the area between Southern Brazil and Paraguay. After the natives of Brazil and Paraguay spread the fruit, pineapples reached the Caribbean eventually. In 1493, Columbus found out about pineapple and then the Spanish also spread pineapple into Philippines and Hawaii.

Pineapples are called pineapples because the body of a pineapple on its parent plant looks like a huge pine cone. People got confused with the pine cones and the fruit, as a result, the name of pineapple has been created.

Life of Pi.

“Life of Pi” is recently a very famous and popular movie by Ang Lee, especially when it became the Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards of 2013’s Oscar Ceremony.

Therefore, I decided to watch it.

The movie begins with Pi’s childhood. When Pi was young, his life was not that good. He was bullied by his peers who laughed at his name and called him “Pissing” (His name was Piscine). As he grew up and entered middle school, he decided to change the way he lived. He believed in a lot of religions. He was very smart.

One day his father taught him that animals are not like humans, they don’t have the emotions like humans, they are just animals. Pi’s family decided to move their home and sell the zoo they owned. So they took all of the animals with them and boarded a Japanese ship to their new home. The ship sank because of a huge thunder storm. Pi was lucky to get on a life boat with a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan, and a tiger whose name was Richard Parker.

The Devancement of Man

ffrfr

Humans, at one time hunted there pray.

Filling a stomach required strength and speed.

Slowly man no longer needed such traits.

Our lives became easier but we became weaker.

The body became less of a necessity and thus wasted away.

No human asked about the food they consumed.

Who caught it?

Who prepared it?

What kind of animal was it?

These questions did not concern the modern man.

No, no.

His life was consumed by the stress of modern life.

Slowly however the truth emerged.

His body and the rest of society’s have been tainted.

Lack of awareness and progress had sickened mankind.

The advancement of mankind had successful destroyed the human race.

Happily Lost In Any Light

Traditions, history dates, stories, new tastes, new smells, sounds, words, phrases, feelings, memoirs, happiness, sadness, nostalgia, the joy of going home, the fear of going home, are all the things that I experience every single day while living abroad. The adventure I’m living is taking me places I’ve never been to, neither mentally, nor physically.  With only three months left in this beautiful country there is an abundance of thoughts and feelings racing through my mind.

On occasion I look behind at the person I was when I stepped off that plane, five months ago, in a completely new environment, on the crisp morning of the 31st of August and notice all that has changed. I was scared, oblivious to what would come next, afraid of the unknown, and nervous. When I take the time to analyze who I am now, I see someone who has grown immensely, and continues to make countless new discoveries about herself everyday.

I’ve recognized that I no longer need to keep my guard up for what lays ahead of me or behind me. As long as I remember to take a deep breath when confronted with difficulties, keep true to who I am, and set my mind to what I aspire to do, I can and will achieve it. I’ve discovered that the fact of the matter is: I wanted fresh air, a new surrounding, and I attained it all because I ventured outside my comfort zone and took a leap.

This whole Italy gig has done a great amount to my psyche. It’s allowed me to pinpoint my true persona, toss out the clutter I carried which invaded my mind and untie everything that dragged behind me. The new acquired space allows me to trust, gain, and learn in greater quantities.

I feel lighter like there is nothing I can’t do, I can get lost in any light and still sense happiness and peace. Having had a stressful sophomore year due to personal issues at home, this year is acts as a retreat and cleanse.

This year serves for me to let go, enjoy and find myself through learning, new friends and new experiences. I’ve learned from being in Italy that it is completely okay to break down and show what you are feeling. It’s normal and only human to crack and carry a sad face rather than a constant happy one. I’ve learned to allow myself these days. My psyche grows everyday with every single moment.

Although one small thing haunts me as time goes by, how will my psyche change when I return to America? How will I react to the immediate switch? There is a large chance that the quick alteration of setting will disrupt my new psyche I’ve reached while living here. I’ll be forced to face reality and go on with life without the coliseum practically in my backyard. It’s a scary thought but in the end, I will adjust and trudge on with the fond memories of the best nine months of my life.
